assassin_696
Some of you may or may not have heard about Desert Island Discson BBC Radio 4 (UK). To quote the site and give a brief description: Desert Island Discs is one of Radio 4's most popular and enduring programmes. Created by Roy Plomley in 1942, the format is simple: each week a guest is invited by Sue Lawley to choose the eight records they would take with them to a desert island. But these shouldn't simply be just your favourite records (although they often are). These should be records that you would be able to play again and again, without tireing of them. They should mean something to you, remind of you of somewhere or someone, and they should try and encompass the range of your musical taste. For example, mine would be: Now We Are Free (From Gladiator) - Hans Zimmer This would represent the modern classical side of my taste. Immensely powerful and textured, it also reminds me of my favourite holiday location. It's reflective and always focuses me and gets me thinking. In My Heart - Moby Representing the electronica side of me, it's upbeat and simple, but very beautiful. I can imagine looking out over the bay at sunset listening to this, a smile on my face. What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong Wonderful song, timeless voice, it reminds me despite all the war and destruction, just what a wonderful world it is. It's not in your face, it's just there, a timeless classic. Heartbeats - JosÃÆÃâÃâé GonzÃÆÃâÃâález The song with the highest playcount on my iTunes. He has a fantastic soft voice and the guitar playing is brilliant, but it's the softness and raw beauty of this song which does it for me. It's reflective, no matter how many times I play it whenever I play it i'll always listen to it all the way to the end, and will generally stop whatever i'm doing to listen to it. It's very powerful. Primarily though it reminds me of a girl, which is enough. Fields Of Gold - Eva Cassidy This song reminds me of all the friends and family who have passed away in my life, i've cried listening to this song it's so powerful. Eva Cassidy's voice is beautiful on it, and it's just her and her guitar. It also reminds me of long carefree summer days. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin It's long and complex, and reminds me of my school and all my friends. I can always listen to it all the way through, and I could always imagine doing a cover of this in a band. More Than A Feeling - Boston This one would give me something to air guitar along to, and is brilliantly upbeat and uplifting. It encompasses all the classic rock in my collection, and always sets my foot tapping. Imagine - John Lennon Reminds me how important the power of imagination is. This one will always set me questioning who I am and what I believe. So what would yours be?
