Abstract Lighting Tutorial for Adobe Photoshop

Step 1: Start with a normal backround, can be created with whatever program you want.

Step 2: Select a portion of the background you think would look good as a sig. You might think that it looks good as it is, but there's alot you can do to make it look better ;)

Step 3: Now we need to turn iut black and white. To do this we first make a new layer and fill it with black. Set the blending mode to color, and merge the two layers (ctrl + E).

Step 4: Take your dodge tool and use it to lighten up some areas. Use around 50% exposure and lighten up the areas you want to be lighter. Now change the exposure to 20% and just brush around the edges of the already dodged areas to make it blend in more.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Tip: Use the highlights mode for range to only lighten up the lighter parts of your render. Changing the size of the brush will help brushing in the smaller areas.

Step 5: Time to give it some color! You can use the hue and saturation tool (ctrl + u) to give it color (make sure to check the colorize box) or you can create a color layer with the right color you want, and set its blending mode to color.
