Safari/Firefox/Mac users...Help

Yesterday my friend posted this (on my behalf) on the official forums:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I started playing rs last year and ever since I have had problems with the runescape site. My first question however is unrelated to this:
As a mac user I use safari rather than Internet explorer and cannot hear sound effects/music on high detail. I am aware that jagex is currently working on this but, assuming it isn̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t a number one priority, I would be interested as to when this update will be made
My main problem however is as follows:
Pages on the rs site will nearly never load first time, they appear blank and I have to refresh them to view their contents. This at first was not a problem because I can still play the game. Recently however as I have become more involved in the game I need to actually ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹Ãâlog in̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ on the main site in order to post messages on forums etc. (hence why someone else is posting this query for me). When I attempt to login I enter my details but the next page will not load properly. If I try and refresh it as I usually do I get sent back to the login screen. I hope this is simple to solve and any help from fellow mac users would be much appreciated.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Anyway to cut a long story short i recieved a reply to the first query (none for the second) saying something along the lines of "You can't get sounds on safari". I was baffled by this but not knowing a great deal about this kind of thing I assume the guy is right.

Then it hit me, why not chuck safari out of the window and use firefox. I have now got a fully compatible copy of firefox up and running but similar problems are occuring. For starters I still don't have music on high detail so again I'll assume this is because firefox don't do sound and that I'm not too bothered about. The main problem now is that although all my windows load properly on the rs official site I now cannot type text into certain fields. These include forum login and highscores boxes among others. Maybe I'm stupid because I havn't seen anyone else with similar problems so i hope it's going to be easy to solve. I have no idea whats relevant for this query so post if you need details.

The RS music only works on IE. It does not work on any other browser; Jagex says they're working on a fix, but it's been a while since they've said that.

I don't know about Safari. I don't have any experience with it.

You could always just use the official RuneScape client and use firefox for general internet browsing. It what i do and has been a good combination for a few years.

The RuneScape client is only for Windows...he's on a Mac.

I played RuneScape on a Mac for awhileing (still on a Mac, just not playing RuneScape) and encountered the same problems. You're not going to be able to hear sound on your Mac when you play. Period. Sorry about that.

I also had the same reloading problem. In fact, it was worse on Firefox than it was on Safari and I actually used Firefox to browse the internet and Safari to play RuneScape. I just got use to refreshing pages and waiting for the irritating way the page loads.

I was sent a message awhile ago from JAGeX that basically said RuneScape isn't designed to run primarily on Macs and so we just have to deal with the problems for now.

I've been playing RS for over a year on the Mac with either Firefox or Safari and my choice of browser is based on several different things: the version of the browser and the operating system version.

Here's a summary of what I found that worked:

FF 1.0.7 works with OS 10.3.9

FF 1.5.0.2 works with OS 10.4.5

Safari works with 10.4.5

FF 1.5.0.3works with 10.4.6

Both browsers have weird problems with different version of the OS (and the Java version used by that OS. Jagex has announced (May) that RS will soon work with sound in FF.
