craigevil
Ok heres the thing I have Kanotix Easter RC4 installed on my laptop and on my desktop. The biggest differences between the two are: desktop has 512ram a 1.8athlon and Nvidia video card Runescape loads in Firefox no problem laptop has 256ram 750 PIII and ATI Rage Runescape starts to load then freezes at "Loading Updates" Tried using Firefox, Konqueror and Opera same thing in all 3. I am using the latest Sun Java on both. With most if not all of the same packages on both, other than the few laptop packages on the laptop. java version "1.5.0_06" Java 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05) Java HotSpot Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing) Am I running into a memory issue? Running top doesn't show an abnormal of ram being used and even in KDE I still have around 60k free not counting cached. CPU on either laptop or desktop dont run very high when trying to load or run RS. Java console doesn't show any errors nor does Firefox if I run it from a terminal. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java and using an older version, even tried using the Blackdown Java no luck. Have also tried running various browsers as root same thing occurs. Tried running unsigned applet, default applet and Sun Java applets all fail to load completely. Testing Java on any other site load just fine. tunaboy692004
hmm, you said runescape 'frezes' on loading updates? Are you using the regular runescape on the web or are you using a client? Olgath
What do you mean by "freezes"? Does the whole java applet freezes, or does it just not get past the "Loading updates" portion.
craigevil
USing a browser in Linux the client doesn't work in Linux. At least not that I have able to figure out. Yeah it just stops at "Loading Updates 0%". Its weird because I am using the same version of Linux on my desktop and it loads. If I use a LiveCD on my laptop it will load but runs rather slow, which is expected of a LiveCD. Proud member of Affliction
wooden_fire
If you are running a PC with 1GB+ of ram a memory conflict can occur. This problem is caused by Java not giving RuneScape enough memory to work with and can be solved using the following steps. Note:Please only perform these steps if you are technically competent or a responsible adult. Jagex takes no responsibility for any data lost as a consequence of using this fix. - Open your Windows Control Panel - Open the Java Control Panel - Select the Java tab - In the "Java applet runtime settings" section choose "View..." (not the application settings but applet) Your JRE version should be listed there. In the box marked run-time parameters, you can add something like: -Xmx256M Include the minus sign before it. This should increase the maximum available memory to Java to 256MB. Do not set this number to anything more than half of your maximum RAM otherwise Windows could have problems running. As Runescape is designed to be run on Windows using the Internet Explorer browser software we can only offer support relating to those products. If you are using a different operating system or browser then you will have to consult the manual for that software to find the equivalent procedures. From Runescape website You could try messing around with the memory available to java or closing all uneeded processes that are open. Rs needs a minimum of 64 mb of ram to run. Failing that, install more ram RSN :: Wooden_Fire Time Zone :: GMT
craigevil
Does anyone that actually runs Linux have any clue whats going on? It runs on my desktop, it runs in vmplayer in winxp, it runs from LiveCD on the laptop which uses more ram than actually running it from the harddrive. So ram isnt the issue. If it was it wouldn't run from a LiveCD. Desktop, vmplayer and LiveCD are all the same version that is on the laptop. So it makes no sense why it won't run. I guess as a worst resort I can run from a LiveCd but it runs so freaking slow that way. Oh well my wife is the one that uses the laptop I run it from the desktop.
