What monsters are best to kill to try and acquire one?

In general the higher level monster has the best chance to drop it.

 

I heard Shadow Warriors under the Legends Guild are good droppers, although I never had one myself..

black dragons and fire giants drop them as well. and a great place for black drags that nobody, i mean like 1 in 100 tries or me, goes to is the evil chicken lair in zarnaris, u must have started that part of recipe, but its an excellent place with 4 black dragons, even some baby ones :) and u can range right out the pathways on at least 2 dragons

 

 

 

P.S. I would recommend a cbow as they take a while to kill ranging. melee and mage is fine too :) just need a raw chicking, which are extremely rare :)
