ManniX
Alright, I'm now 81 combat myself and so haven't been battling the high level'd monsters for too long, but in the short time I have i've noticed a few things about the levels which don't really seem to be consistent. For example, I've just been fighting hellhounds which are L122, and found them much easier to fight than say Bloodvelds which are L76. I do understand that, just like player combat levels, the level can be made up of varying stats, so that, like in the case of the bloodvelds, an NPC could have a very high attack in exchange for other lower levels. This seems all well and good but the fact remains that the whole point in combat levels in the first place is to surely give a good idea of how hard the enemy will be to fight right? But the truth is I can take on many more hellhounds than bloods (before restocking food) and this to me seems a bit strange. I don't know, maybe slayer NPCS are generally just harder to fight than regular monsters, but i even found the L108 elves to be harder than hellhounds. Or maybe hellhounds are just an exception to the game and I'm rambling about nothing.... Out of interest does anyone know how NPC combat levels are assigned by Jagex? Are the stats of the NPC independant of the combat level (and therefore the combat level is manually and individually set by jagex) or do the stats directly influence it's resulting combat level? DarkDude
What were you wearing for bloodvelds? Their attacks and magic based so It's best to bring dragonhide armour when you attack them. The magic defence you get from dragonhide is MUCH less than the melee defence you get from wearing rune, which is why you seem to get hit more. Evrae
I have noticed similar things - Lesser demons seem to do less damage than Ice giants on me. It seems a bit, well, odd! I have to get practically naked when I'm cooking bacon.I may be immature, but that made me laugh!
Aquashock
I think its set up where jagex makes a monster (lets say rock crabs)*not accurate, just an example* say 1 att 1 str 1 def 51 hp combat lvl 13 and the combat level is derived from the stats jagex sets. But that is only my opinion ^^Click For Monster Hunting Blog (180M+ in drops)^^
firestrike
I must agree with you on this point the way that runescape does the player and especially npc levels can be very misleading, how one monster can be so much higher than the next yet barely hit higher or take less damage is beyond me. I have always asked how green dragons are level 70 or so when you compare them to lesser or greater giants which for me seem to always be much easier i can last around 120 lessers with 20 lobs whilst only about 50 green drags i mean that is questionable?? This makes perfect sense, was wearing my melee kit which is a mix of rune and dragon. Great tip, I'll have to train my range up for d'hide armour, Thanks. Yeah I was going to mention lessers too, in that they seem rather underpowered for a L82, although I won't notice once my level supasses theirs. Jellies also have mage based attacks and after that they turn melee based (Other than of course specters) Dust devils, Gargoyles, Nechs and Abyssals are all Melee based.
