June 13, 200620 yr Ok ive seen alot of people taking about updating their drivers and such. I just bought a new 19" LG Flatron Slim monitor and it said when I hook everything up I should just go ahead and update the driver. The only problem I have with that is I know some of the times when you update the driver it creates problems. Yes, I know doing this will also fix other problems and such but why fix something that isnt broken right? I've never updated a driver before so I dont know anything about it. If you think that is a good idea please explain to me why and what I need to do if that isnt a problem. Thanks!
June 13, 200620 yr I recommend updating the drivers for Video Cards/etc for better performance but 'PnP' devices like monitor's only use for drivers is usually extra configuration. I'd say it's pretty safe to do it.
June 15, 200620 yr So stuff like Video Card, Hard drive, CD drive, memory, processor and motherboard i should do it to right? can you even do it to your processor and motherboard?
June 15, 200620 yr I do it on my GPU(graphics card) as soon as new ones come out, I did montherboard once, and my dvd drive once. Monitor you really dont need to update, because it will only give you some more configuration chices. The GPU you should always have the newest drivers on, becuase it gives better preformance. The rest, if its working, there is no need to do any updates on, like you said, why fix something thats working. Hope this helped

June 16, 200620 yr So stuff like Video Card, Hard drive, CD drive, memory, processor and motherboard i should do it to right? can you even do it to your processor and motherboard? Operating system manufactorers wish. Processor support is built into the operating system. You can usually get drivers for the chipset, which updates most of the intigrated devices. For example, I have an NForce 570 motherboard. I go to nvidia.com and get NForce 570 drivers which give me drivers for my Ethernet, Audio, SATA Controller, among others.

You are so lucky.
June 16, 200620 yr I just ordered an Orleans 3500+. I don't have a functional am2 yet but on Monday I'm getting my Case and PSU so I can finish it off.
June 19, 200620 yr You should always update drivers unless uve heard of a wide spread problem that is serious. You can always roll back your drivers to the previous version if you find it conflicts. Aussie Aussie Aussie, :D
