What does runescape mean to you? A look back for me at RS

Featured Replies

So i started this game in 2001, stopped after 3 days and started again in late 2002, when i started i had a lot of help from a high level (lvl 50 guy), he was high for me :P i was only lvl 6 then.

I remember people being so much more helpful then, ofcourse then no one had reached full stats, it was runescape classic, and every turn was something new, i got lost so much, but who hasnt? Being lost meant finding something new, I remember when i first found the mining guild, entrance requirement lvl 60?! "I'd never get in". Ofcourse being an ultra n00b, i had not much money, neither did a lot of people, so my helpful lvl 60 + now guide pointed out that smithing and mining were rewaring, so off i went, trying to sell off full bronze for 1k. I remember slowly working my way up in smithing and running off to varrock to sell my smithed items. It wasnt easy, but i slowly earned cash and spent it wisely.

The beggars ofcourse were roaming around, everyone remembers them right? Trying to talk to the banker in world 1 sometimes was frustrating, but the game was still fun. I still had so many quests to do, many goals to achieve, getting full rune seemed distant, rune was too expensive then, i remember the first time i tried to buy a rune kite for 160k(that was the current price then) and got scammed, i was so excited i didnt look at the trade menu and got nothing, i was so disappointed, but i didnt stop, I continued earning my money back.

Then ofcourse autoers and scammers were rising steadily, jagex didnt seem to have much control of them and the game was slowly being ruined, more and more arrogant people were ruining it for everyone. The dupe event ruined quite a bit, but it didnt affect me that much, i do remember trying to buy a magenta party hat though for 1.9 mill when the going price was 2.0 mill after dupe, and way back a red phat i recall was around 200k. AHHH the good days.

A lot has changed since then ofcourse, but i begin to wonder everytime i look at the hiscores i see Zezima and all those full stat guys, they are still playing, do they do it for fun, or just competing? Im pretty sure i'd get sick of playing so many hours a day, and now that ive completed all the quests(ages ago) and still a non member there isnt much for me to do in f2p, but i occasionally log in and talk with old friends and go for a bit of pking.

But sadly everytime i login there are more and more people being scammed(many due to their ignorances), Jagex tries their best(sometimes) to make it worthwhile for everyone, but cheaters, scammers and whatever else just make the game worse for everyone now and somehow the initial RS vibe when i started the game is now gone for me. I shouldn't complain too much, but then again its just something to reflect on.

Nice read, Sometimes I do what I can to help, and sometimes im very generous, All I hope is that someone passes it on.
