My monitor froobed out...

Featured Replies

I seriously have no idea what happened.

I was talking on AIM with my friends and KABLOOM. My computer suddenly gets REALLY DARK. All white is a really dark grey and everything is super distorted in color and such. Darker colors bleed through the white and the bleed stretches from left to right, all the way.

I have no idea what happened. I checked the cables and all.

(This monitor is a few years old, maybe 6 O_O)

Tried a different monitor/that monitor on a different computer?

That would let you know whether it's the monitor's problem or your video card being bunked.

If you don't have another computer/monitor handy, try the following:

Reset your monitor to factory settings (there should be an option in the OSD)

If you feel comfortable with it, open up your computer and check to make sure your video card is firmly seated. It's vaguely possible it could've jimmied itself out over time.

Plug the monitor into another computer. That'll tell you if it's the monitor's fault or your video card's fault. :)

Alright, well I can't exactly move this monitor because it's so beastly, so I'm using a seperate monitor on my current computer. Everyhting has the exact same problem so i'm assuming it's either A) my video card [most likely or B) Somehow my input got messed up :o

Then you should probably take the video card out and then put it back in. See if it helps fix the problem (might be just a small video card error, or a video card failure).

I'm opening up my computer tomorrow and I talked to my dad and he said the refresh rate may be a little stupid since it's so old (he took a look at it personally). So I'll try taking it out and placing it back in and hope for the best. If not, i'll go take my brothers vid.... err, go "buy" a new one :-w

Hooray, I took it apart, but to my avail it was fried.

But, when my dad got home, he presented me with a 40$ GeForce MX 4000. 128 MB (Don't laugh), my old card was 32.

I'm a happy panda.
