September 14, 200619 yr Ever get one of those e-mails from a man claiming to be in the high-level administration of some impoverished west African country wanting to move funds out of a bank account, and pay you a hefty sum for the trouble? Got another one of those today. I usually delete them, but I'm in a crazy mood today. I replied saying this: "I will need much evidence of your sincerity before I can make any action, as I am operating out of an undiscloseable location. Send your proof and any further messages to this e-mail address, but be warned that this address may be discontinued randomly due to the nature of my job. If I find your evidence to be completely sincere, I will have to ask you later for a photocopy of any identification you have, as well as passports and any travel visas you may possess. Do not be alarmed, because I must use this method with every person I make monetary transactions with. Delete this message as soon as you have read and understood it." I'm gonna yank his chain for awhile and pretend I'm on some secret government mission to kill him. Make him soil himself. the russians are the best! Hands down!
September 14, 200619 yr Actually, the most common scam is the "Nigerian Royalty" 401 scam, and people actually lose hundreds of millions annually to these. Yours was different, possibly just fishing for ID. Earlier, scammers would not hesitate to ask a $3000 "bribe" to the country's "officials" in order to process the "$17,500,000" payment to your bank account. And sadly, tons of people have fell for it.. It is also worthy of note that some people have actually counter-scammed these people, in the best cases gaining hundreds of dollars from them by stories like "The money is sitting in my church's bank account but I need $100 to activate the account". Mostly people just donate it to a charity though since it is likely that money is ill-gained.
September 14, 200619 yr You saw that on Calos Mencia...liar Its better to be judged by twelve, than to be carried by six.
September 14, 200619 yr Ahh the 419 scam emails. I've started getting quite a few lately. I've read some pretty funny scambaiter stories getting them back though. :P
