*help* modem randomly disconnects

I just got this new modem for my computer that i build and it thinks it can disconnect randomly. Its a real pain when you want to get something done. Does anyone know of a way to solve this problem? The modem is a Diamond SuperMax Pro 56k PCI fax modem.
