Hey all, I was going to try for a fire cape today and I've been told that you can exit the cave at a certain point and it will save your progress?

Click the Log Out button once during a wave of enemies and a message will appear asking if you really want to quit. It will automatically save your progress. When you log on in the near future you will still be inside the minigame.

you click logout during the wave, but you have to finish that wave, then logout properly. Its not advised, particularly after the 360s come, as you will log back in and you get dumped right in the middle, where anything can attack. I nearly lost when I logged out after about 25 waves, 90 and 180 spawned on top of me.
