primadog
I was browsing through the player-made-guide forum today. Enticed by a thread titled "fast fishing experience," I quickly clicked and read through the guide. Soon, however, I begin to wonder why would the author fish in karamja and sell to the general store, instead of shilo or fishing guild and bank? Then I had my answer -- this is a f2p guide. This is a problem I see with the current state of the forum. A guide should be easy to read and find. Any casual users should able to figure out exactly what a guide is about and who's the target audience simply by reading the title. Furthermore, a standardized guide format will greatly improve readability and accessibility. Therefore, I suggest this and several improvements to the guidelines for the Player-Made Guides Forums: 1) Title format: [F2P/P2P] : Guide [to/for] [short description] by [author] I believe this format is clear in addressing what the guide is about, whose the guide for, and distinguish similar guides by having the author's name in the title. 2) guide format: I. Introduction II. Body of the guide a. subtitle b. subtitle c. subtitle III. Credits IV. copyright information Comparing the AOW and PMG forums, it seems obvious a good guide is one with a simple and clear layout. Enforcing a standardized guide format will assist guide makers with improve their chances to make an AOW guide. Please discuss whether the above suggestions are useful, enforceable, and workable. Ard_Choille
Thanks for posting! Work is still underway to make the new Player-Made Guide (PMG) forum as user-friendly as possible. I'm sure that that this and other ideas will be considered once the guides that were previously on AOW are sorted. Thanks for your patience as the review/sorting process continues. - Ard - - My deviantART Page - -
