k... this is a tutorial on how to do lightning on photoshop versions three and up. Lightning is a nice simple effect that you can use in abscracts and grunge sigs (maybe more types)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

first make a blank canvas with a transparent backround. can be any size. my example is about 400 x 175...? I forgot what it is lol.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

next make sure the foreground colour is black and the backround colour is white. then take a gradient dragging the line all the way across the screen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

then go filter>render>difference clouds.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

then layer>new adjustment layer>levels> change the input in the middle box to 3 and leave the others at default. now merge visible and go control i (invert).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

and then simply go control u and click colourize. put sat on 45 (or w/e looks the best) and colour it anyway you want with hue.
