captonsnake
My old computer went on the fritz and shutoff never to wake up. Im not exactly rich so I asked around and got a 2003 compaq for free. It reaches all the requirements for RS2 but I lagg like crazy on every server. I have the latest java. But I think it is my modem(56k Dial-up). I have 182 RAM and a 500mHz processer. That should get me on High graphics. I even tried low and It didn't work. What do you guys (and gals) think? :-s
pedrahm5
Seems like there's two problems: 1) Computer. Although it reaches the requirements, it's really not very good by your specifications. I'd look at getting a new one. 2) Internet connection. 56k modem isn't very good for playing rs, although it might not be so bad if you had a better comp :-k
binarypi0110
Yes, your dial up modem is probably causing most of it. Its because your internet connection cannot transmit data fast enough. Runescape is not very demanding on the computer. However, their "minimums" for high detail seem to be rather insufficient. Processors nowadays are normally at least 2.6 GHz single core or 1.6 GHz dual core. RAM doesn't matter as much, but upgrading to 512 (or even 256) will help. Unfortunately it will be hard to upgrade the processor. Also, look at your video card. If you have an old video card, either replace it or get a new one on PCI or AGP. If you have onboard video, get a new AGP card. If you video card does not process video data fast enough, you will lag. I had this problem on my laptop, which had 64 MB of Video, which is sufficient on low detail, if everything else is rather up to date.

bobbaldrick
what about your connection for other websites etc? is it like normal or slower than your last computer? could be the modem, or even the phone lines in rural areas
binarypi0110
No, the only way to "upgrade" a video card is to put a new one in. Hope that you have an AGP "brown" slot, other wise, the upgrade will be rather difficult
