Yes, but fastest isn't always the easiest/cheapest.

Mining = mine granite, or if you really don't want to.. Then mine iron.

Smithing = get crafting gauntlets (Family Crest quest) and smelt gold bars. It costs a great deal more than smithing steel bars, but it's faster (or even faster, superheat gold ores to make gold bars).

mine gold and bank in fairy world using the kingfisher realm. then smith when you have a couple k. probly still faster to use the ghost forge though. never tried superheating them.

1) Mining granite is no longer a good way to powertrain as you need waterskins in the mine. Iron all the way for mining exp

2) Superheating gold bars is just plain stupid... Not only would it be faster to use a furnace, you'd be wasting 300ea (on top of the 200-300ea that you already lose for smelting gold bars). Steel bars all the way here. If you're going to superheat, do it on either addy or mith bars.

Superheating is faster though, lol.. I never said it was cheap, because it's not. But it is faster. You make the bars at about the same speed as smelting, maybe a little faster, but you don't have to walk to and from the bank, and you get magic experience. But the fastest way to go about it (which is what he asked for) is to make gold bars with gauntlets.

Yeah for powermining you should mine all the iron in the world (if u do it close to a bank you can even have some profit of it) (psst...north east of yanille).

But if you want to make some money of it (alot) and want to train your smithing, make steel bars and then alot of cannonballs (200 ea and 4 balls from 1 bar). At least thats what i did to buy my whip (and it only took me 3 days).

But if you dont care and only want to train smithing, make steel bars and then make steel plate body, and if you have at least 55 magic you can even high alch them for 1200 ea. Oowh wait, thats even more money?!.....why aren't I doing that?! Oh wait yeah.....because im a noob and dont want to train magic now...... :-#

To sacrifice some cash in the name of powertraining is one thing, but you'd be burning about 8k worth of nats per inventory when running to port phas's furnace and back to the bank takes about 10-15 seconds. Since most people can't make 500gp per second doing anything else, it wouldn't be very practical to superheat gold, but I do see your point :P
