I just got 99 magic, and in order to be an effective mage staker, you need to have high def, at least 90+. Well I figure, if I am going to be training defense, I might as well work up another skill at the same time. I am stuck between crafting, herblore and slayer. All of which I would use melee defense with.

I'd definately recommend Slaying.

Crafting would allow for great money gains as you can do all of the enchantments.

 

 

 

Herblore would all you to own even more during stakes as you could create all the stat boosting potions yourself.

 

 

 

Slayer gets some great drops.

 

 

 

Personally I would go for slayer, like the above poster said.

 

 

 

My reasoning is that

 

 

 

Crafting gives more mage exp then defence if you alch your creations, which you dont need.

 

 

 

Herblore, gets some nice exp from slayer monsters anyway so this can be a side, side skill to train.

alright thanks, i completely forgot that slayer monsters are capable of dropping herbs :-w . So I'm going to do slayer on the side, with an extra side-side of herblore:)

Slayer is definitely the way to go. You will get Crafting help from the Gem drops and the occasional Green/Blue/Black Dragon assignments and Herblore help from the herbs and herb seeds that most monsters drop.
