[hide=Submit a guest article to the Times!]

Submit a guest article to the Times!

If you are interested in writing for the times you have two options. You may submit an article as a guest, or if you want to join the team as a full time writer or editor, you may apply for a permanent position! To read about applying for a full time position, skip down to the next section. For information about guest articles, continue reading here.

To submit a guest article, please PM it to tripsis. The Editorial Staff will then review your article and if it's something that our readers would like, well written and doesn't have too many spelling/grammar mistakes, we may use your article on the site. However, please note that this does not mean your submission WILL be published. We publish guest articles on a needs basis only, and even then, only the best are selected for publication.

If you do plan on submitting an article, please follow these guidelines:

  • Word count is flexible, but try to keep it 600+.
  • There all kinds of online dictionaries on the web - use one. Please be careful of your spelling and grammar. If we have to spend 3 hours editing what you've written, that's almost a guarantee that we won't use your submission.
  • No flaming or naming names, and no attacks on Jagex unless you have proof of what you're saying. Criticism is okay but flaming is not.
  • While we do accept some fiction, try to keep it on topic. In other words, make sure it's RuneScape related.
  • Try not to rehash the same old topics over and over again. Read through the Tip.It Times Archives to make sure we haven't already published a number of articles on the topic you're about to write about.
  • Lastly, if you're not sure about your article's topic, or if you have a question, ASK first.

Please note: we will not ask your permission to publish your article if and when we decide to do so. Submission of an article implies permission to publish. We may contact you to let you know if your article has been selected, but this is only as a courtesy and is not a request for permission.

Therefore, before you submit an article, remember that thousands of people will read it. Make sure that you do, in fact, want your article published. Once your article has been published, it's too late to change your mind. If you DO change your mind after you submit an article, or you'd like to make some changes or update it, then you MUST contact tripsis as soon as possible. Tip.It assumes no responsibility for personal information you've included in the article that may be outdated or no longer valid.

Join the Editorial Panel full time!

If you are interested in writing regularly for the Tip.It Times or serving as an editor, apply to join the Editorial Panel!

About The Job

  • This is a volunteer, non-paying job.
  • Authors and editors are typically given an assignment once a month, for which they must meet their deadline.
  • Editorial Panel members' work is published for hundreds of users to read, discuss and enjoy!

Available Positions

[hide=Positions]

  • Author

    • Tip.it Times authors are responsible for writing editorial and/or fictional articles related to the RuneScape game. The authors are placed on a monthly schedule for releasing articles. Editorial articles should be blog-like, controversial, original, interesting and thought provoking. They reflect your personal opinions (or what you notice that other peoples' opinions are) about RuneScape updates, features or general happenings. Fictional writers create stories that occur in a RuneScape setting. Stories should be engaging, exciting and related to the game. All authors must be able to accept constructive criticism from both their team members before the article is released and from the Tip.it community after the article is published.

Word count for articles is flexible, but is expected to be a minimum of about 600 words.

Editor

  • Editors are very important parts of the Editorial Panel. They are responsible for reading, editing and commenting on articles before they are published. They review articles for accuracy, quality, spelling and grammatical errors. As such, they are required to have good writing skills and knowledge of grammatical rules. Editors are also encouraged to comment on and critique the content of the article and give suggestions where they see fit. They are also welcome to provide topic suggestions to authors.

Editors may also write their own articles if they wish, but authors are given priority time slots.

[hide=Would you like to submit a Letter to the Editor?]

Would you like to submit a Letter to the Editor?

Do you have some thoughts to share after reading the Tip.It Times? Do you want to comment on the article and provide your own view point? If so, you can write to our Editor and possibly have your letter appear in the Times' usual space during those weeks that no article is being published.

If you'd like to submit a letter for consideration, please read & follow these guidelines:

  • your letter must refer to a specific Tip.It Times article.
  • be sure to include the title and/or date of the Times article in your letter.
  • there all kinds of online dictionaries on the web - use one.
  • be careful of your spelling and grammar.
  • no naming names or flaming.
  • long-winded complaints or whine-fests will NOT be published.
  • make sure your letter is well thought-out and makes a valid point.

And remember, we reserve the right to edit your letter for clarity, grammar, spelling and style. All letters published WILL include the author's Tip.It username.

Please send your letters via PM to tripsis.

Lastly, the submission of a letter does not guarantee that it will be published. If we DO select your letter for publication, we will not ask your permission beforehand, since submission of your letter implies permission to publish. Therefore, please make sure to contact The_Editor via PM if you've submitted a letter that you no longer want published. Also, please remember that thousands of people will read your letter. So before you hit the Submit button, take a minute to make sure that you do, in fact, want your letter published on the main website. Once your letter has been published, it will be too late to change your mind.

Where do I send a Did You Know fact to and what does it have to include?

If you have a Did You Know fact that you think would be a good fit for the Times, please PM it to @tripsis. Before you do however, please make sure the fact is indeed "fact." If you have any evidence for the fact then feel free to submit it, however it isn't initially required for a DYK submission. <3:
