Demoliboy2's Top 10 Games I'm looking forward

Demoli

Hi everybody! Sorry for me big vanishing lately, it was a rather harsh combination of exams, monster hunter and event creating.

Nevertheless, E3 was a month ago and i got to check all the press conferences but ubisoft in live stream and checked all the coverage. Wow. How can we tell what to expect for next year until E3?

So this list will be entirely dedicated to those games that i just can't wait to play.

But before i start off this list, I'd like to make some things clearer:

a) I AM a big Nintendo fan, so don't be all surprised when more than 2 places of list are filled with these games.

B) Only confirmed games will be listed, as much as i want a GTA Vice City 2.

c) I own a 360 and a Wii, but i play PS3 regulary, so that might affect the list.

That being said, lets start shall we?

Number 10

Dead Space 2

deadspace2production1254352257.jpg

I am not a big fan of horror games, but the original Dead Space was a fresh take on the horror games boast. Like any regular gamer who just picked up an Horror game, i started aiming for the head. Boy wat a mistake. Dead Spece was without a doubt one of the best Horror game i haver ever played (unless you count RE4 as an horror game).

And if the trailers are anything to go by the sequel looks even better. I really hope EA doesn't screw this franchise up, specially as early as the first numbered sequel.

Number 9

Pokemon Black/White

Pokemon+Black+and+White+Legendaries.jpg

There are only 3 franchises I am nostalgic about: Pokemon, Donkey Kong and GTA. All of them gave me gigantic disappointments over the years, being GTA's migration to face front realism throwing out the goofiness or Donkey Kong starting to suck.

My disappointment of Pokemon was diferent. The series hasn't changed radically, but that is the thing: It hasn't changed at all. Every new installement seems like an expansion pack to the prior game. It doesn't take any risks.

Black and White seem to be taking those risks though. This game looks like it will actually have a plot, dealing with abusing pokemons fighting abilities for benefit of mankind. Selfish benefits... Like someone said on another forums, real life pokemons would be regarded as rooster fights, and Gamefreak is going to explore that new territory.

In gameplay mechanics, not much has been said, but Game Freak guaranteed there will be a big overhaul, and now even the monster will be moving all the time instead of just being stale the whole fight. That can be regarded as a minus, since now the sprites aren't that pretty :?

All that aside, i can't wait for B&W, too bad it will only come out next year...

Number 8

Kirby's Epic Yarn

kirby616.jpg

This game is full of charm. There is no denying. But what makes this game stand out for me (apart from the visuals) is the way gameplay is completely diferent from other kirby games. Sure, you can transform into other things, but this time you dont eat your enemies. Only a diferent variation of suck and throw is available. You can't infinite jump either, only a regular jump and a glide.

Not only that, but the interaction with the environment seems like an increadible idea, and i specially like how he can sow pieces of cloth together to shorten gaps or ull strings to open new passageways. Kirby, it's good to have you back

Number 7

Limbo

Limbo-Announced-XBLA.jpg

If there is one word to describe Limbo, It's creepy. A good replacement would be original. Limbo is a puzzle platformer who revolves around the regular promise of getting to the flag pole alive, but it's how limbo gets there that gets my attention. The design and art of the game itself hides the answers in devious ways, and the traps in devilish ways. What looks like background can be an instant kill obstacle in your next step.

The reason this is so low in my list is the controls. From what i get from the trailers, the jumping controls and physics seem similar to LBP, and that is not a good thing. The original LBP was a platformer where jumping was hard. That is definatly a flaw.

Still, moody and original, Limbo is a solid number 7

Number 6

NBA Jam

nba-jam-wii.jpg

I love arcade games, and back then, i loved even more those kind of sports games, never taking themselves too serious. However, the spark got lost in time. They seemed to be adding gimmicks and subtrackting what made the series good.

With this game, they seem to be returning to their roots, which is an increadible thing. Maybe Jam wil revitalise the arcade sports game genre like SSF4 revived the fighting genre.

Heres hoping to Jam, see you in a few months

Number 5

Epic Mickey

epicmickey2.jpg

A mickey mouse game designed by the masterm, ind of Deus Ex and Thief? Count me in!

Epic Mickey seems to be taking the aproach of "Good and Evil", but instead of going to the extremes of Devil and Jesus Christ, it's kinda gradual, and the game is design to help you play the way you want. If you prefer to destroy, then green whisps will appear and destroy things for you. If you prefer to create, blue whisps will appear and help you befriend the enemies.

That is another point, the enemies, when befriended, are able to attack other enemies so you don't have to have your hands dirty.

Like any wii game, I am worried about the controls, not only that, but haveing to created alternate paths to every action seems to take a lot of space in the disks, so the game might be shortened.

Either way, i can't wait for Epic Mickey, I'm sure Spector will do it again

Number 4

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

zelda-wii-release-date-2010.JPG

To be completely honest, i was disappointed by the new Zelda. I don't know if it was the tease of another realistic zelda last year or the glitch in the live Demo (ha, see what i did here?), but it just didn't string that "I'll kill for one copy" this time. I think the main reason was the fact no gameplay change was shown. Sure, motion plus is nice, but you don't get to try it out for ourselves until the release date.

Now onto the good stuff: Art direction: Fantastic! While I think Twilight Princess was the best Zelda, Wind Waker had the best personality and art direction, and combining these 2 games is a nice touch many fans will appreciate.

Items: Again, not much was shown here. Still, there were lots of spaces to be filled, so apart from the boomerang and hookshot, I would like to see the return of the Dominion Rod, which had a giant ammount of potencial which was not utilised. The whip looks great and i am glad to finally see the sword beam in a 3D Zelda.

Plot: This game seems to be about 2 diferent lands, but unlike the light/dark concept Nintendo loves to explore, it sems to have a sky island/ land mass thing going on. Definatly interesting on how this will turn out.

Number 3

Donkey Kong Country Returns

donkey-kong-country-returns-20100615111741270_thumb_ign.jpg

I'll confess, this one is mainly Nostalgia. The hours i spent playing DKC on the gamboy are only compared to my Pokemon Gold save.

The moment Reggie said at Nintendo's press conference that retro was working on something new and the DKC theme started playing, i knew i would buy this game day 1. Being produced by Retro studios, creators of the Metroid Prime Series, only increases this urge. There were some awesome moments in the trailer, like the sunset level and boss battle, but it's return of Donkey and Diddy that makes this title magical.

Retro is now finishing the work Rare started (and almost destroyed), and if the Prime trilogy is any indication, they will do aaaaaalright.

Number 2

The Last Guardian

the_last_guardian.jpg

Definatly my biggest disapointments in this year's E3 was the abcense of The Last Guardian. Those Sony bastards could have sacrificed 10 friggin minutes of the Move filler, or just don't even say a word about the coke partnership and Marcus advertising campaign to at the very least show a trailer. But noooooooooooooooooo. Let's keep the second biggest surprise of last year's E3 to 2011 >:[

Ranting aside, from the moment i saw the trailer, i was hooked. I loved Shadow of the Colossus (i really hated ICO though), and seeing this gigantic beast, which spoiler alert is going to die, made me feel kinda sorry for those giant I repeatedly stabbed in SotC.

About the gameplay, I'm sceptical. It seems to be a fusion of ICO (bad) with SotC (godly). I just hope it manages to keep it's focus throughout the experience on the Beast, and not deviate into backtories about the kid and such.

On one last note, I'm really disapointed on how this game won't be coming out this year, or maybe even the next! Still, I must play this game, even if I have to steal my friend's PS3

And... my nº1 most expected game is.....

Boy i love this video

The Game

Number 1

METROID: OTHER M

metroid-other-m-20090602111603423.jpg

That's right, Metroid Other M is the game i am looking forward the most, and the fact it's almost out only makes matters worst!

If you know me, you know Super Metroid is to me what Jesus is to believers. It's the game that got everything right. Story, gameplay, environment, grafics (that still hold to this date), non linearity, control, challenge, creativity, secret tecniques, the whole package.

Other M looks like super Metroid: But flashier, better, with melee attacks and counters. And a deeper look at Samus' past. The thing that still makes me want this even more is that we still don't know much about the rest of the game. Every other games usually spoil much of the plot ages before the release, but about Other M we only know it's after Super Metroid and will explore Samus' past. It is *hinted* that it will ahve scenes after Fusion, like some save stations and certain carachters, bnut again, nothing is shown face fronted.

So Metroid Other M (anagram for mother by the way) is my most expected game as of now.

So, what are your most expected games and what do you think about my list?

As for the TET event attendeed, i give you this treat:

I lost a lot of respect for Valve during this Year's E3, and i guess that reflected in this list aswell.

But if it was a top 20, it would be in there, including Infamous 2 and Metal Gear Rising

Halo never stood out for me, and Reach is not diferent. It should please fans though, I just don't find halo a big deal :?

Number one game I'm looking forward to is Madden 11. Already bought NCAA 11 on midnight release.

You seem to be more of a science fiction kinda guy though :P.

Also: I remember playing pokemon around 5-6 years ago. Not since then though :\. Same with donkey kong.

Wasn't the Mickey Mouse's game name getting changed or something? apparently in the end, Disney caved in to whiners.
