First, a definition for you: em̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâ÷pa̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâ÷thy noun. Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives. The attribution of one's own feelings to an object. ---------- This is a thread about empathy in RuneScape, or rather the lack of it. On a typical walk from Lumbridge to Ardougne, I will see at least 20 insults, directly aimed at hurting another. This isn't on. To those on the recieving end, it is no fun at all to be insulted. I know how you feel about it, as I sometimes get a few aimed my way too. To those that give out insults freely, I want you to try and imagine what it would be like to receive those insults. Just picture that for a few minutes, and think how you would feel about it. Why do you do it? Does it make you feel more powerful? Why make your fellow players suffer at your hands? Think about it. Let's take the classic 'noob' word. Personally, I hate this word. The next time you are about to call somebody a 'noob' because they haven't got dragon armor like you, just think about your progress in the game. You were at that point once, and back then it wasn't so 'noobish' to have what they have. If you are one of these despicable players, you are leaving a lasting negative image on the people you hurt. They will be afraid of asking your level group anything, because they would expect another onslaught of insults. That is just not acceptable. Next, let's look at scammers. What is your motivation to steal other's items? Will that Blue Partyhat look as nice if you had to lie and steal the cash to get it? No, it won't. To truly accomplish something in this game, and to truly enjoy it, you will have to earn it yourself. The guilty conscience comes in nicely here. Every time you see your item, you will think of all the people you have hurt to get it. People need to show more empathy. That is all.
