  1. If you are strictly after melee xp, the best beast to train on is one with low defense, yes, but also one whose HP level is just above your max hit. A particular hit on a Hob will give you the same xp as that same hit on an Ice Giant. The point is to kill the creature and then move to the next as quickly as possible. If you choose the right beast it will usually only take you a few hits (2 is very good), and you won't waste time going after food because you won't need that much. I use a strength ammy, and ALWAYS use pot (the bigger the hit, the more xp toward HP). Training on Ice Giants means you have to deal with Ice Warriors at first, and that can be a frustrating waste of time. They also do NOT have low defense. And besides that, the number of Ice Giants is limited. Unless you have the opportunity to play at wierd hours it's kind of tough to find a world where there is only one other person for any length of time. Jumping worlds all the time can be time consuming. I would have to throw my hat in the ring with goodcountry. I, too, prefer low level creatures in the Security Stronghold. By the way...my cb is 114 (getso is not my rs name).
