Personally I enjoy slayer because of the variety. As far as money making with monster killing, it isn't the best. You're right about being able to camp 'x' monster for better money. (For high levels: Frost dragons, Tormented demons, and God wars dungeon come to mind.) Besides the variety slayer also allows you to kill monsters that not just everyone with high combat has access to... Lower level slayers will find that cave crawlers ,with a good set-up and access to fairy rings, allow them to camp for herb drops (similar to the very crowded chaos druids). At medium levels (65) you unlock one of the better crimson charm droppers for those with lower combats (talking about dust devils). All that aside, I have lots of friends who dislike slayer for some reason or another, and have maxed out using other methods. It all boils down to the player, I think. I personally enjoy skills>combat so I enjoy being able to level something in addition to combat skills. Anyways, good luck on members, and I hope that I could provide you with some incite on why some people choose to slay and others do not.
