  1. When I first saw this thread pop up I thought it wouldn't be that interesting at all, but after reading it for a couple days I've grown more and more interested. I've always liked reading the "Today..." thread, seeing what Tip.It'ers do in their day-to-day life, so this thread has me interested.

Keep it up, will be looking forward to more updates. ::'

  2. I've been in search of a laptop for quite some time, but haven't really come across any good buys. There's this one laptop I've been looking at for the past couple days, and it seems for the most part not too bad. *Specs below*

Thing is, I don't have much experience when it comes to purchasing laptops and I could use some clarification on how well some components such as the video card might perform; and the laptop performance in general. I'll be using the laptop primarily for school work (word documents, excel, videos, mp3's etc) but in my spare time some video games such as Left 4 Dead. I'm looking to spend less than $1000CAN, and would prefer to purchase from retail stores if possible. (Warranty Issues, if your wondering.)

On a slightly unrelated note, one year's warranty doesn't sound like the best idea to me. Should I consider purchasing some extra warranty?

Although I don't have my mind set just yet on purchasing this laptop, it seems like a good fit for me. But I'd rather not throw away $900CAN on a laptop only to regret my purchase a year from now; so, I'm asking the many experienced and knowledgeable people of the T&C forum to give me some help and advice. Also, if you have any other suggestions please post away!

  3. I've only ever bought a couple new games from EB Games, found they were a bit pricey compared to other stores. But from what I've read buying used seems to be the reason to shop there. May have to look into it some more.

  4. Personally I really think it depends on the game. There are some games that achievements come by so easily that boosting isn't even remotely needed, but there are obviously some that are the exact opposite. I suppose you could say I agree with limpbizkit, it's a damn long and boring process.

I don't really see the need to "boost" in Halo 3 though. The majority of those achievements are ridiculously easy that it shouldn't even be considered. I managed to get almost all the achievements (setting aside the Mythic Map-pack ones) just by playing the game overtime. That's the way achievements should get gathered. Only time I can recall I boosted was attempting to get Zombie Genocidist in Left 4 Dead. But even then, I got to enjoy playing the game.

...I mean, 50G for assassinating three people on a certain map? Damn, bungie.. #-o

  5. Hasn't happened, but there's been a few close calls.. There was one time when I was younger and someone rear-ended us at a stop sign. I didn't have a clue what the hell happened at first; it's like getting hit by a large, fast moving bumper car. Ouch.

  6. Brand name clothing

    Smoking

Religion - This one is iffy, I was raised as a Catholic.. But my religious views have wandered far from my teachings.

Posting everyday on the OT forums. :P - I love to read people's posts everyday though.

Probably a lot more as well, but just a few off the top of my head.

  7. Thank you for your insight; Im definitely going to rent it now. I havent played much Resident Evil games besides Outbreak 2 and RE4, so Im not too hard-core, but still like the games(played the 4th one about 6 times lol) . The online feature for Re5 sounds very lame, Resident evil seems like the best single player to me.

Not a problem, like you I've played a few of the earlier games (RE remake&original, 0, 3, 4 and 5) but found the earlier games infinitely better then 5. After playing through the RE5 instead of playing it through a second time I went back to RE4 for awhile, between myself and brother we've completed the game nearly fifty times since it's release. Twice being in professional mode. We enjoy it that much more. ::'

Maybe you'll find RE5 more enjoyable I did, seeing as my opinion doesn't speak for us all; but I found it just lacking in numerous aspects. Have fun regardless!

  8. Watching two of my friends placing thumb-tacks on people's chairs in science class. I decided to hold onto the thumb-tacks in my back-pack and as a result, they ratted me out and the three of us almost got an in-school suspension for it..

Either then that, flipping off my French teacher, writing on desks, using a secondary-locker (it wasn't in use by anyone, empty for 1/2 the school year) and throwing a bunch of food to rot in there. It was pretty bad, I had to walk by it every-so often but eventually it got cleaned out over the summer.

    Pretty minor stuff..

  9. \Also is Resident evil 5 better then Resident Evil 4I been wanting to buy it so bad =Sso whats your opinions on the game till I do buy it or should I even buy it?

I've only played this one, so I feel I can comment on it. Personally, RE5 is in my mind a 'downgrade' from RE4. Many reviews have hit the nail on the head already, so I'll just give you a quick-run through.

-It is more action then ever. Very simple, few puzzles; and not much horror.

-Weapons interface, you'll either hate it or... hate it. :P

-The Co-op play with a AI Sheva can be a complete pain at times.

-The story is so-so, if your a die-hard fan you might just buy the game for that.

-The Mercenaries just as good, if not better then ever. Although people tend to over-use S.T.A.R.S Wesker.

-The recently added online feature that allows people to battle one another is... quite lame.

Wesker is pretty badass too. ;)

I bought the game the day it came out, and I regret it. I love the Resident evil series but this one is not worth buying. A rent perhaps, but definitely not a buy. Chances are you'll play it once, maybe twice through the campaign and never play it again, the online isn't worthwhile and no where as near as addicting as other games you might play these days.

    *Hopes RE6 will be better.*

  10. Will be trying to get into better shape during the summer, the little bit of heat we get motivates me to work harder. This will also be my first summer working full time, so there won't be much time for vacationing. Since I've earned up a nice amount of money, I'll also be looking to purchase my first car.

If I can make the arrangements, I may even try rock-climbing and skydiving. Might be time to tackle my fear of heights.

Looking back it seems like every other summer has been a waste up until this point... Time to make the most of it. :)

  11. Yep. I don't go crazy with it though, couple songs here and there that are hard to find is pretty much all. If I enjoy the music, chances are I'll go and buy the CD. Although if there's only a few songs I'd like, I'll probably just download it from somewhere.

Did your internet service provider issue a firmware update that changed the settings of your modem? If that is the case all you would have to do is open a couple of ports in the 6100 range using tcp/udp.

If that is not it, then it may be a case of your firewall causing the problem.

If not that, then it may be a small patch error issued by the game developers.

if not that, then it may just be an incompatability issue.

I hope that one of these will solve the problem.

May I also ask for your modems type and model number?

    [/hide]

Thanks for the help, I tried your suggestions but ultimately found the solution to be much simpler then I first thought. I wasn't aware of there being two other anti-viruses on this computer, one of them; Zone Alarm was infact cutting off access to the internet for the games I had mentioned. Problem now solved. Thanks. <3:

    ---

    The problem..

So, basically whenever I try to play video games online that require an internet connection

    Ex:

    -Playing Diablo II; Battle.Net

    -Playing Guild Wars

-Connecting to a Vanguard:SOH server (Just downloaded the game trial)

    I simply cannot connect to a network/server? I'm not sure what's wrong.

    Some Background Information

-Well, let me first start out by saying I CAN connect to the internet, I am currently using

Firefox, but I can also get on the web using Internet Explorer. I am sure Opera would work

    as well.

-This problem seems to only affect ONE of our household computers; we have three, and I am

able to play Guild Wars/D2 on my personal computer, but on this one (Brother's comp)

    it won't let us.

-Our internet service is provided by Shaw cable. We are using a Modem that is connected to

all our computers; as well as our Xbox 360.

-I'm using the free trial of AVG as a anti-virus, and I'm using the Microsoft Firewall.

-This problem seems to be only fairly recent; we were able to connect to game-servers

beforehand, my dad and brother swapped computers due to their different needs. My brother

was able to play D2 for a couple days when this problem started showing up, and hasn't been able to play since.

Here's a small collage of the sort of messages I get.

[hide=]errormessages.jpgThe Guild Wars loading screen doesn't move at all, I've tried leaving it for half an hour with no avail.[/hide]

Well, Tip.It this is where you guys come in; hopefully someone has some idea what might be wrong and some of the possible solutions I could try. But for now, I'm stumped.
