the Hollow trees have marking on mini-map similar to maples, several of them east of FoG, can only examine, not cut.

ANyone figured out what's with all the new hollow trees in the wildy?

The only new combat area I've found yet is in the axe hut in the spirit world. The have level 42 Ghostly Warriors there, that seem to drop a ton of cosmic, chaos, and mind runes.
