  1. There's no "best" Linux. Every Linux is the same. What makes it different is the distribution. There are many distributions: Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, Mandriva, and many, many more. Personally my first distribution was Ubuntu. Some call it a KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!) Linux. Maybe it is, but it's ideal if you want to move from Windows. Using it is very simple. Sometimes, like every Linux, you need to take a look into configuration files, use Bash a bit etc. You can also use Ubuntu with Xfce or Fluxbox, which don't use much memory, and don't look this bad. I use Xfce, it uses up 150MB RAM not running any programs. Of course there aren't only Debians out there. You can use other systems, my brother uses OpenSUSE with KDE and it's really good, but let's face it, it uses more memory. For maximum performance you can choose Slackware or DSL (Damn Small Linux). I'd recommend Slackware which can use Gnome, KDE, Xfce and so, but DSL runs on 32MB of RAM and on i486 or better CPU. It's your choice. There are so many distributions, so you can actually find one to fit your needs.
  2. Thanks for the replies. Well, I tried 2.0.0.17 on my Windows, but with the same results. Stops at connecting. I didn't try it on my Linux, though. It has some Ubuntu modifications stuff. I don't want to mess it up, but I doubt the results would change if I managed to change the version. I've got some new updates today, including new kernel (2.6.24.21-generic) and some Java updates that didn't fix my problem, though. I tried it on my ASUS laptop, Windows XP Pro SP2. Of course FF3 installed. I had Internet Explorer infected and I don't want to get this again, I just don't trust it :P But I tried to load the update and maybe it's a miracle but it actually managed to download the stuff :o Well, I tried to run Firefox after that. Ofcourse it used the Windows' RuneScape cache. But another interesting thing is that it worked on Linux either. But it used its own cache. Downloaded and it works. Wow. I have no idea what was wrong. I guess the problem's somehow solved, but I've got no idea how was it solved. I don't want to run IE every update, but we'll see how long it will work.
  3. Well, as the subject says, I'm currently having some problems with loading the RuneScape cache. This may sound weird but that could be because of the new client update or something. Ok, I have no idea. It was fine before. Tried to load new update stuff today and after a minute, waiting to connect to update server, I had this error message: Error_game_js5connect - Unable to connect to update server. RuneScape was unable to connect to the update server. This is most likely caused by a firewall blocking the connection. To resolve this: * If you have firewall or security software installed, they can often block RuneScape from accessing its servers. Please ensure that RuneScape/Java can connect to its servers on port 43594. * Note: Windows XP Service Pack 2 has built in firewall software. If, when loading RuneScape, this asks if you want to allow the connection, you need to say 'yes'. * If that doesn't help, then an external firewall may be causing the problem. Please ask your network adminstrator/ISP to open port 43594 for TCP traffic so that RuneScape and Java can run correctly. If problems persist, please refer to the Technical FAQs, which can be found in the Customer Support section of our website. My computer is: CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HT - 3.0 GHz Graphics: GeForce 5200 FX (64MB?) RAM: 1GB DDR2 System: Linux Xubuntu 8.04 (2.6.24-19-generic) System-2: Windows XP Professional SP2 Browser: Mozilla Firefox 3 on both systems. Java: JRE+JDK 1.6 on both systems. I don't think anything more is needed... I checked how it works on both systems. They fail at the same moment when loading. Port 43594 is enabled through my Windows firewall. I don't know what about Linux's firewall, but it worked fine before 15-10-08 update. Oh, and I need to add that I don't think I need any Java reinstall, I'm quite an Java programmer myself and my programs work fine. But if you persist I will do it :P I hope to get some help soon, thanks in advance.
  4. I guess you're right. Back in 2005, when I was a noob (I still am, maybe an experienced noob :P ), you could easily find help or even a friend. I didn't realise I will get this far at the beggining. Everytime I start to recall the old times, I always think about my old friends. Even tho we were noobs, we didn't think about that so much. My friend was showing off with his staves set :D, duels on lvl 2 wild (we returned the stuff ofcourse), steel axe trips on hobgoblins :P. Yeah, these were the best times in my career. If I could, I would meet with them again, even tho I am darn lvl 105 F2P. Well, all that changed when some kids came around. 1337 PKers they call themselves. Everybody started to train skills (to "own") insanely. The game atmosphere changed, but I kept on playing. Then bots and stuff, people got more greedy, then Jagex's "great" updates. And I got informed that my old friends play Tibia. I guess that's the way it goes. Got to a new clan, met great people, and I sometimes feel like back in those "nooby" times. Yeah, I've chosen a good clan to be in. In conclusion, even now you can find great friends, that care about others, don't spend all day skilling, but it's not like it was back then. You just need to search friends in good places. Sorry for my chaotic english.
