  1. Do you want the fights to end a few seconds faster (wear the defender), or would you rather have one or two more sharks left over in your inventory afterward (wear the shield)?

    No clue about poison, but it wouldn't hurt to bring a dds for the spec even if the poison doesn't work.

  2. Wear barrows melee armor and a whip. Either bring a super strength, attack, and def potion, or just take a dose of each and then bank them for more space for food. Use sharks or better. If you do all that, it'll be over before you know it. I think you need to start over from the first fight if you leave in the middle, but you probably won't need to leave. The first fight is the worst of them though, and after you kill it you'll hardly need any food at all.

    I just did dream mentor about 2 weeks ago, and my melee stats have only gone up one or two lvls since then. It was easier than I expected.

  3. I'm pretty sure the Explorer's ring doesn't work at the ZMI altar. I did an hour or two of ZMI runecrafting not too long ago, and I don't remember seeing the chat message that my Explorer's ring gave me extra runes.

    Besides, you're using 150gp pure essence and turning some of them into 15gp runes. Getting an extra 15gp worth of runes 5% of the time (or however much the ring works) wouldn't make much of a difference.

  4. If the new guild makes crafting runes faster or easier, I totally agree that essence prices will go up and rune prices will go down. I don't think it'll get to the point where natures don't make a profit any more, but who knows. It could get that bad, depending on how much faster or easier exp is after the update.

    But, I think I read something about a new runecrafting minigame? If the minigame lets people get runecrafting exp without actually crafting any runes, that could have the exact opposite effect. If fewer people buy essences for exp, and fewer runes get produced and sold, essence could go down and runes could go up.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but right now runecrafting is the slowest skill to raise, right? I wouldn't be surprised at all if they're planning on making it a lot faster than it is. At the same time, I doubt that they'll want the new method(s) to be as profitable as it is now. Sort of like the ZMI altar, except more extreme.

  5. After downloading Firefox 3 and doing a second round of testing, I decided that my methods aren't exact enough imo. It's clear though, that the standalone client, Firefox, and IE are all in the same system-resource-usage ballpark. Shortly after starting RuneScape, they all were using about 350-370MB worth of hard drive for the paging file, and they all left me with around 100-120MB of free RAM. But over time the available RAM was decreasing, and the paging file size was increasing, on all three programs, and that's where the inexactness of my numbers comes from.

    The standalone client was the least demanding of the three, but it wasn't as big of a difference as I was expecting. It was also clear that running the standalone client and either web browser at the same time pushed my vintage system to the edge of its abilities. So that's not a good option for me.

  6. Why don't you just use the runescape client? Works like a charm...

    I hadn't used the client for a few months, and thanks for reminding me to try it out again. Now that I've actually tried it, I'm still going to use Firefox.

    Using the RuneScape client and having Firefox open (I made sure to close the RuneScape tab in Firefox first) left me with a 535MB page file, and about 30MB of RAM available. Playing RuneScape in Firefox by itself left me with a 415MB page file and almost 70MB of available RAM. I'll test Internet Explorer out after I finish this post. I'm expecting results similar to Firefox by itself though. I'll also test the client by itself, and it should probably be the least demanding of all of the options.

    As always, your mileage may vary.

  7. There's a simple way to make the new resizable window almost full screen, and still be able to switch between it and whatever else you're using your computer for.

    It's the F11 key.

    Pressing the F11 button on your keyboard turns this:

    [hide=before]14dpyqc.jpg[/hide]

    into this:

    [hide=after]2vbwjl0.jpg[/hide]

    There's one catch though. RuneScape more or less "intercepts" any keyboard buttons you use, and it's your internet browser that needs to "catch" the F11 button. So you need to use it either before you start RuneScape, or you can open another tab in your browser and press F11, then switch back to RuneScape.

    You might have noticed that I'm using Firefox, but you don't need to feel left out if you prefer Internet Explorer, because it works in IE too.

    You actually get a little bit closer to truly fullscreen with IE:

    [hide=almost]35i3lf5.jpg[/hide]

    You'll see your toolbars and tabs when you move your cursor all the way to the top of the screen:

    [hide=like this]24oc3h3.jpg[/hide]

    If you've got any questions about using tabs in either browser, ask. If I can't help I'm sure someone else will be able to. :)

  8. I have a quest hall on my main floor with stairs leading to a skill hall in the basement. I haven't tried connecting a dungeon stairs room to a quest or skill hall though.

    I would recommend removing the parlours, and moving the 4 rooms in the northwest corner of your main floor south one square. Parlours are entirely useless as far as I know, and the limit on total # of rooms built is low enough that having multiple useless rooms will probably come back to haunt you eventually. And by "haunt you", I mean "cost you a whole lot of money removing them and rebuilding".

  9. You do want to use the best altar if possible, that's the gilded altar that's been mentioned already.

    The quality of the burners doesn't matter though, as long as they're lit all the different kinds of burners add the same amount of exp.

  10. I'm pretty sure you don't need to be wearing them to get the kudos. I don't remember wearing them anyway.

    Did you find and clean all 5 of the digsite artifacts and the digsite necklace?

    tip.it has this guide that might help, if you can find the one display case other than the statue that's still empty.

  11. It's funny, I just started killing waterfiends with a Zamorakian spear yesterday, and my melee stats are really similar to yours.

    I'm using 16 monkfish, 3 four dose prayer pots, and a super attack and strength pot every trip, and I've been getting 20-25 crimsons per trip. It's not incredibly fast, but it's way cheaper than bursting. I'd rather have the melee exp than magic exp anyway. :)

  12. Or you could just kill Padulah(ninja with dual scimitars) who is in the town center surrounded by rangers to be a large monkey...on second thought, that may have been medium, but I did not see any monkey that was bigger than me in the course...

    There's a wall just a little bit northwest of Padulah and the archers, where you can use protect from melee to kill Padulah. I don't know if the archers are too far away, or if the wall stops them from attacking, or what. But I killed Padulah twice in this same spot.

    I used protect from range while I got Padulah's attention, and he only had time to swing at me once or twice before I lured him behind the wall.

  13. He/She is telling you that it would be a wise investment to buy gold bars at MAX price from the Grand Exchange.

    If people buy all of Mrmegasalesman's gold bars at the max price, it would turn out to be a wise investment for Mrmegapricemanipulator. This isn't rocket science.

    You can be as naive and unquestioningly trusting of absolute strangers on the internet as you like, but I prefer to be realistic. If someone is offering you something that sounds too good to be true, it's probably too good to be true.

  14. This doesn't sound like good advice to me.

    The OP says (and I'm paraphrasing) "I bought 10 million gp worth of gold, look at how much I upset the market [insert graph here] and now I need you suckers to buy all these bars off of me at MAX so that I can make a profit."

  15. The Vyres appear weakest to crush attacks, ironically making the flails aggressive attack more accurate than its accurate attack.

    This actually makes sense when you consider the reasoning behind why the flail can even hit Vyres at all. The flail is supposed to be unpredictable, so the Vyres can't use their psychic power to predict where it's going to hit them. If you use a more "accurate" attack style, you'd actually be doing the Vyres a favor.

    That's so cool that Jagex turned that part of the storyline into an actual combat feature. And kudos to you for figuring it out too. :thumbsup:

  16. That "50-60 golds" was a little bit of a brain fart. I should have said 40 or 50 golds, and 50 or 60 charms total.

    I was ranging them, and trying to avoid getting hit as much as possible. I still got hit for 37 a couple times though, so I wouldn't recommend meleeing them without prayer.

  17. I know I've never used a beast of burden in the Arzinian mine, but I can't remember if it's because I've never tried, or because I tried and it wouldn't let me.

    I have a strong hunch that summons and pets aren't allowed in the Arzinian mines since most of them don't wear gold helmets as far as I know.

    So if you can use a beast of burden to cut down how often you need to bank, the Brimhaven spot keeps getting better and better.

  18. I paid a little less than 200k combined for the 4 Guthix pages, which seemed pretty expensive compared to the 2k broodoo shield I had been using for the magic and prayer bonuses. But I needed something to use with a crossbow, and there's really not any kind of variety at all for range bonus offhand items, so I bit the bullet.

    I might eventually get a Zamorak book, but only when my skills are so high that spending a couple million gp (or whatever a Zamorak book costs then) won't buy me any useful skill improvements. For now, my gp does me a lot more good spent on skills instead of an extra +4 range bonus (compared to the Guthix book), or +5 magic bonus (compared to the broodoo shield).

  19. ...How did we go from threads stating that it's guaranteed to plummet, to threads about how it will rise, in under a day?

    Rising's probably going to be what it will do. A player who learns he likes a godsword can't just borrow his friend's daily, can he? He'll get his own.

    I get the impression that speculators have a bigger effect on prices than the people that just want to buy items for their own use.

    Remember what happened with black masks? The slayer update created more demand for the mask, which naturally caused the price to go up. Speculators snatched up every mask that they could, which created an over-exagerated reduction in supply, which also caused the price to go up.

    The end result is that an increase in demand will cause an increase in the price, but an increase in demand combined with speculators looking to exploit the market for an easy profit will cause an even bigger increase in price. Guess what that bigger increase in price does? It attracts the attention of even more speculators looking for an easy profit, and the cycle continues.

    But prices can't rise forever, and eventually all the godswords that are about to get temporarily removed from circulation are going to be dumped back into the exchange. Meanwhile, GWD will be fuller than ever, and more godswords than ever before will be entering the economy.

    The good news is that (compared to the black masks) there's not as many people wealthy enough to buy dozens (or hundreds) of godswords and artificially inflate the price.
