  2. The Data Bank Log Book tracks my progression throughout RuneScape. From playing MiniGames to farming for a drop, I plan on posting it all. I am Freezepop91, also known as AdamFirst1991 and Yuki Sorrelwood. I am a retired professional gamer, I spent 3 years playing professionally Xbox 360. I have won countless tournaments and topped the leader boards for years. From Call of Duty to Battlefield 3, I was a dominating force. Now that I have retired I have wanted to help improve the game that helped me fall in love with playing video games. I use to play World of Warcraft and the countless fan sites had something that seems to be lacking with many RuneScape fan sites, and that is statistical data. I am talking about drop rates and success rates. Many have told me "Oh well its mostly random, its to help stop the bots." If this was true, then why do you see most bots off doing their own thing in a group of bots? This is because they know something that has not been shared with the public, and that is statistics. They know that if they farm such and such item at such and such level they will have a higher success rate then farming the higher level item. This in turn causes them to gain more exp by farming the lower level item at a faster rate. One great example of this is in the RuneSpan. Most guides tell you to go farm this and this at this level. But watch the bots, they are all farming low level nodes. Why? Because they know that with a Law Esshound they are missing 3 out of 4 siphons, but if they farm a Fire Storm Node they will miss only 1 out of 8 siphons. Doing the math, they are gaining 3x the exp from farming the lower level nodes. Ok, I need to stop rambling on. Any ways, this blog will be updated at least once a week, and I say at least because of all the new content that is being released and I like to stay on top of it all.
  3. 1.1 Useful Info

All blogs have a style and format that they are written in, this is no different. The Data Bank Log Book will have a set style, and its aimed at making it easy and fast to read. To stop me from rambling lets get down to the details.

Each entry has a quick title and numbers, the numbers are an easy way to keep track of current entrys of the blog.

    Abbreviations:
    Mob: Monster
    Exp: Experience Points
    Mats: Materials
    Pots: Potions
    DNA: Does Not Apply

Inside each blog there will be a very messy table, until you know how to read it all, a quick and easy example follows

    Mob Name, Level
Number of times killed with recorded drops.
    Exp Gained Per Kill
    Gold Worth
Drop Item Name 4.9%, Drop Item Name 8.7%, Drop Item Name 85%
    Productivity Ranking ###

    Skill Name
    Skill Level
    Skill Training Method
    Number of Items Made/Used
    Exp Gained
[Exp Gained Broken Down Into Each Exp Gain]
    Success Rating ###
    Productivity Ranking ###
    Gold Ranking ###

Breaking this down its simple once you know what your looking for:

Mob Name and Level are set by Jagex
Number of times Killed with recorded drop, This is the amount of times I have farmed this mob while recording the drop rates
Exp Gained Per Kill, Listed as Magic, Ranged, Melee, Killed using Mobs Weakness
Gold Worth, this is the avg amount of gold dropped between all recorded kills
Drop Rates, This is broken down by how many I have killed divided by how often an item was dropped, an example is 1000 kills and 45 times Item 1 dropped, so 1000/45=22.22% drop chance
Productivity Rating, This is a little hard to understand at first, after killing 10 mobs, I take the avg of the Exp gained and divide it by the avg time it takes to kill, so 45exp per kill and 10 seconds to kill, this gives that mob a rating of 4.5 The higher the number the better it is to train on.

Skill Name, The name of the Skill being Trained
Skill Level, The level at the time of training
Skill Training Method, What items were used/created to gain exp
Exp Gained, The total amount of exp gained per item created
Exp Broken Down, this breaks down the total exp gain into each part, example, smelt gold bar, cut diamond, craft diamond ring
Success Rating, This number is based off of how often something fails, example If I cooked 189 Lobsters and 32 of them burned, divide 189 by 32 and you get 5.9% so 100-5.9 is 94.1, making the Success Rating of cooking that batch of lobsters 94.1%
Productivity Ranking, For skills its slightly different, amount of exp gained per item created/used divided by avg time to craft/use full inventory, example 87 exp per ring, 40 seconds to make 28, gives making the ring a rating of 2.175. There will be an additional ranking number along with the full inventory ranking number, this number will be the ranking to create/use 1 of the item. so one ring gives 87 exp, takes about 1.5 seconds to craft, this gives a single ring a ranking of 58, This makes it look like a single ring is a very very productive item, but when you look long term you have only a rank of 2.175, much lower then the single ranking number.
Gold Ranking, This rank is based off the current GE market prices of the items that you can buy and sell for the skill, This is simply the profit numbers, if the item your creating is worth more then the mats your using then it will be a positive number, if the mats your using produces an item worth less then the mat then the ranking will be a negative number.

  4. 3 Firemaking

Hello and once again welcome to The Data Bank Log Book. This time we are taking a look at starting fires, wonderful warm burning fires. Someone has to light the torches to keep the mobs warm at night. So sometime between when I stopped playing years ago and picked up playing again about a month ago, they added bonfires. Higher exp, life points boost, and easy AFK skilling. But is adding logs to bonfires really as productive as many think? Or should we go back to the days of making long lines with fires?

    Skill Name: Firemaking
    Skill Level: 67-68
Skill Training Method: Old School Fire Line Yew Logs
    Number of Items Made/Used: 140
    Exp Gained: 28350 Total
    Exp Per Gain: 202.5 Avg
    Success Rating: DNA
    Productivity Ranking: 81
    Gold Ranking: DNA

    Skill Name: Firemaking
    Skill Level: 68
Skill Training Method: Yew Bonfire Single Person
    Number of Items Made/Used: 140
    Exp Gained: 33950 Total
    Exp Per Gain: 242.5 avg
    Success Rating: DNA
    Productivity Ranking: 67.9
    Gold Ranking: DNA

Looking back at the results, its clear that the old method of lighting each log as its own fire is more productive. This may seem backwards as you gain much more exp per log for bonfires, but a full inventory of logs burned by a bonfire takes longer then lighting each log, almost 2x longer!!! Bonfires are great if you want to sit back and go afk while gaining exp, little work is required to get a bonfire going and the more people that you have around you the more exp you gain. But if your time is limited and you don't care about the fire spirit that appears from time to time, then go with the old method of lighting each log as its own fire. It not only will save you time, but after each fire dies you can collect the ash which has a small value and can help you buy more logs in the future.

  5. 2 RuneSpan Farming

Hello and let me welcome you to the first official statistical posting of The Data Bank Log Book. I have spent the last 5 days camping out in the RuneSpan, grinding my way up the chain and watching Doctor Who. I have spent almost 24 hours in the last 5 days in the RuneSpan searching for the best way to gain exp, and silly me I was farming the Law Esshound and the nodes that popped up around him. That turned out to be a good move and a bad move at the same time, gained plenty of essence and points but very little exp for the time spent. I ended up searching for the bots and found them camping around the middle of the area, just farming the nodes that popped up. I have read several guides that tell me to stay away from this, and to stick towards the high level nodes and mobs running around. So like any good person I followed the bots and with great results.

    Skill Name: Rune Crafting
    Skill Level: 63-70
Skill Training Method: RuneSpan, Farming mostly low level nodes
    Number of Items Made/Used: DNA
Exp Gained: 377,662 Total, 75,532 Per Hour
    20-45 Exp per gain
    Success Rating: 79.3%
    Productivity Ranking: 1258.87
    Gold Ranking: DNA

Now Looking back at the numbers its easy to see that this is one of the best, if not the best, way to train Rune Crafting. This method is only this productive if you keep ontop of the higher nodes, fire nodes, and if you have a large amount of rune essence. Most of the nodes are right next to floating essence and smaller low level mobs. I suggest that if you wish to follow this training method that you get a stockpile of about 8000 essence before farming the nodes. I have found its best to farm an air essling right at its spawn, this will give you the most exp you can gather with the highest success rate while starting a nice large pile of essence. Remember that your success rate will vary with your Rune Crafting level, so dont expect to get the same results with a lower Rune Crafting level.
