One thing which many people seem to have forgotten in the course of this "discussion" is the fact that people are inherently different. We were all designed to think differently, to act differently, and to enjoy different things. Jagex, being aware of this fact, have created a game which offers a plethora of distinct, different activities to do which appeal to different people. However, when you get past all of the different names, graphics, and gameplay, the real reason people continue to play RuneScape, or any game for that matter, is the feeling of achievement that they get when they complete a pre-set goal. For some people, this might be solving a particularly challenging clue scroll, even if they only recieve 5 firelighters and 146 gp. For another person, the fireworks above their head signifying their advance to a higher level in a skill is an intensely rewarding feeling. And again, some people like it when the game will not allow them to deposit even 1 more coin into their bank account. Even for those of us who enjoy sitting around and chatting with our friends, there is an achievement in the fact that people will take time away from their real lives and willingly associate with you! Is this not why we all play? Is this not the force which drives our efforts, whether great or small, in both RuneScape and our real lives? The points of argumentation between whether or not is worthwhile to do quests, or train skills, or do whatever are moot, in that we are all striving for one goal, and one goal only: the feeling of accomplishment and achievement for doing something we could never do before. But that's just my two cents...
