  1. So I've had a few hangouts with the girl I was pursuing, but today I learned she's going home for the summer (which is an hour and a half drive away) which pretty much put a damper on me asking her out any time soon (frankly I'd rather be single over the summer than deal with the stresses of a long-distance relationship, as I've [more or less] been there before and it's terrible).

Especially since the semester is already over and final will be done next week.

  2. I'm actually slowly playing through Saya no Uta (slowly because I'm not often in the mood to subject myself to that and I don't want anyone screenlooking when I play it).

    It's both, Alg. Just... both.

And censoring the nastiness in Saya no Uta would require half the scenes to just be completely blacked out.

  3. My main password is a combination of >5 words of an obscure language and a number that has significance to me. I'm pretty sure that's good enough.

Regardless, though, any password that's about 15 characters or more will probably never be bruteforced because no-one is going to want to invest that much time into you.

  4. ^"What a cute bunn-" CHOMP.

In other news, I've actually reached a point of some social success at the end of this semester...? Through Tae Kwon Do club and Chess club I've got several new friends who're just getting closer, (two of whom I've even played multiplayer games with online, something I've never really done with real life friends before), plus I'm pretty sure I'm on the road to dating a girl I developed a crush on, AND I've gotten a closer with a few old highschool friends.

Now let's just hope this doesn't all fall apart during the summer.

  5. I mean that I think that most talk of how the next generation being wilder/crazier/nastier than their predecessors is mostly based in bias.

I mean, just because you weren't an absolute little shit when you were younger didn't mean many of your peers weren't. But when you're their age you're less likely to know about ways in which they're disrespectful/insane because for one you probably won't be associating with the worst ones, and two (if we're talking a lot younger than 19) you might not actually be capable of comprehending what's happening/ have the cognitive ability to realize what they've been doing.

Personally I think all generations have more or less been equally disrespectful and short sighted overall (Romans threw the craziest parties, seriously).

    Edit:

Muggi, that's the best flirting technique I've heard since "chase the girl with the largest millipede you can find".

  6. So the coffee turned into lunch and overall I think it was a fairly successful date/meetup.

Also she has good taste in anime, and probably isn't an axe murderer (if she is she's a subtle one which is alright I can dig the occasional furtive homicide). I didn't get her phone number, but we did establish online contact so it's just a simple matter of popping her a message asking for it, now.

All in all it went pretty well, and now I have the standing to ask her out to an actual date without having to catch her after a class.

  7. Personally I think that if you know a girl has a boyfriend that should be when you stop pursuing her. Encouraging her to cheat on him with you will end up hurting both him and her due to guilt, jealousy, betrayal, etc.

Sure the girl should know better than to cheat if that's against her values, but encouraging others to go against their values is still morally unsound. After all, if you talk a person into stealing a car you caused that theft. Even if you believe in polygamy, if a couple is in a monogamous relationship that shouldn't be changed unless both of them agree to it, as one or both of them may lack the capacity to deal with the potential jealousy and other issues polygamy can cause.

Of course if you don't know whether she has one I say pursue her until you find out.

  8. Admittedly, I think my asking pretty much ignored all of your advice ("By the way, would you like to get some coffee sometime"?), but I realized that the moment it was out of my mouth and made sure to throw an exact date and time out after she'd said yes to the vague question (while internally kicking myself a little).

Maybe I missed this advice but... what should you have done instead/differently?

I'm pretty sure being more specific is always a good idea (that I could fix with a second sentence), and that it's generally better to phrase the question in a more pressing fashion (ie: "We should have coffee sometime" as opposed to "Do you want to have coffee with me sometime?").

  9. So I finally got a chance to ask said girl I was pursuing out to coffee, and it's going to be this Thursday at 1:00pm at my college's Student Union.

It worked out, though since she did say yes. She hesitated briefly before answering, but that's just as likely to be due to surprise as actual hesitancy so I'm not going to start psychoanalyzing the situation when I'll find out pretty well when we actually hang out.

But yeah, success! I'll update you guys on how well sniffing her back and pulling her hair goes.

  10. Where do I go to complain about Tip.It ads so that admins will hear about it? That one banner ad that covers the entire window and has no option for closing it (forcing you to either go back to the previous page and try again or in my case just get frustrated and close the tab) is completely obnoxious and unsuited for Tip.it, who are normally pretty classy about their ads.

  11. I just had a crazy few days:

Friday I helped a friend run a panel at a local con, which basically involved me hooking up projectors and the like because he had no idea how they worked, then sitting in the back of the room with my laptop because the people there were driving me crazy.

The next day was my school's Tae Kwon Do club's trip to a tournament, which entailed a 10 hour round trip along with hotel stays and the like. [Hide= 'I have a lot of stories about this']

So the trip to the event wasn't terribly eventful, although I was jammed into the back seat with two cute girls. Which pretty much made the best of what could've been a miserable ride (I couldn't straighten my legs and they ended up so numb I had to kick them around and massage them for a good ten minutes to get feeling back). I ended up doing a lot of reading because mostly everyone in the van slept the entire drive.

Upon arriving at Albany to sign up for the tournament I found out that I was exactly one pound too heavy for the lightweight division (and I'd already voided my bowels), so I had to go run for twenty minutes so that I could drop a pound of sweat and get in my division.

I also managed to reply to a person who told someone "Stop saying 'Cool story, bro'" with "Frosty tale, mate", which was entirely worth it. It isn't quite as funny now as it was at 1 am, but still.

At the tournament I was in sparring and katas (technically poomse), and was in the lowest divisions of both because I'm only a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do. In poomse I got a crazy mixture of scores from the judges (a 7.1, 6.8, and 6.0 where 7.4 was the highest score I saw anyone get and 6.2 was the lowest anyone else got) and just barely missed making it to the next round due to the 6.0.

Then in sparring I was a lame duck, because I had no teammates (each team has a lightweight, middleweight, and heavyweight and the team with the most wins out of three wins that match) but I won my only match, so it was a good personal victory.

Also, another sparrer on our team managed to win a match by 1 to -2, because his opponent couldn't land a single hit (but did break rules and get point deductions twice).

We ended up not leaving the tournament until about 7:00pm, so we weren't back home until quite late. The ride back included a lengthy argument about feminism that was ended by me getting so sick of people on both sides running in circles that I got the driver to blast music until everyone shut up. I also managed to win a game where you say a sentence in any language in the hopes no-one can decipher it by just stringing a bunch of obscure English words together. ("Pulchritudinous vernacular gains purchase with Medes due to their enamorment with the recherche of the upper echelons.")

All in all it was an amazing trip.

    [/hide]

Then when I got home at 3am Monday morning, I immediately changed and grabbed a flashlight before being picked up by a few friends at 3:30am to watch the Lyrid meteor shower, which was a ton of fun as well.

Now I'm currently running on two hours of sleep, but it was worth it.

  12. Personally I consider a terrorist to be anyone who commits a violent crime with the goal of instilling terror.

By that definition a person who massacres a school and then commits suicide out of rage or some twisted sense of justice would not be a terrorist, but a person who intended to cause fear (ie, the TDKR shooter) would be. Weaponry used and affiliations are irrelevant.

  13. Trying to juggle deepening my relationship with someone before the semester ends along with the piles of work that are accompanying the end of the semester is proving to be incredibly difficult.

Like, I've had to put even asking her for coffee on hold due to multiple papers and the like jumping up and demanding my time. I'll be annoyed if schoolwork ends up killing this. If it's going to not happen I want it to be because I [bleep]ed it up, because at least then I can learn something.
