  1. I began playing RS in 2002, back when there was only a handful of servers, and we all looked like Legoland men. It was really the first MMO I had ever played, before that my favourite types of games were Platformers and Driving games.

What I was initially attracted to was the social element of the type of game.. How you could log in another day and hang out with the same guy you had quested with a few days earlier. I was then and am still now an IRC chatter, and it hooked me in that respect.

In 2006, after spending long hours grinding my character up to level 124, playing all facets of the game from player-vs-player to trade-skills, spending a decent amount of time helping run one of the oldest and most known clans of the entire game, and making lots of true friends of whom I still hold to this day, I decided it was time to migrate.

I knew lots of people who played WoW, and I always said I wouldn't try it; I was not keen to start a new MMO. One day, on a whim, I bought the game and installed it.

    I haven't looked back since.

World of Warcraft might not be the ultimate game of its genre. What it can claim is the most active player-base of its genre, and thankfully the company who run the game and its servers are, in my opinion, of an excellent quality. They do react to popular opinion, so much so that they took the hardest ever dungeon out of the original game and put it into the 2008 expansion pack as the easiest - people never got to see it, so they made it accessible to anyone.

The combat system in WoW, while is nowhere near perfect, is still in my opinion a very good model. It might not be revolutionary, or completely different from other games of its type, but it does require some skill and at most timing for it to be effective. RuneScape, a game I will defend until it's end, doesn't have this type of system, which is a shame.

WoW does not have the same level of inside-content (to coin a phrase) as RS does, like the vast mini-game system. But, I feel that it makes up for it with its excellent Battleground and Arena system (although I think Nadril may disagree with me here haha). As well as the PvP, WoW has detailed events and achievements, which have been covered well by my fellow Warcrafters. I don't feel WoW lacks alot in this department, compared to RS.

I also don't agree with the linear/sandbox comments either. WoW may not be a perfect sandbox, but it's not any worse than RS. In fact, unless something has changed, in RS its actually more beneficial to grind on lower-level monsters/etc than it is to kill the higher-level enemies due to the speed you can kill them - something that definitely doesn't occur in WoW. In WoW, if you don't like the area you are questing/grinding in, you find another one of a similar level and find your way around. It's not like you progress a level and then are stuck in a particular zone, not at all.

I make these comments as a person who looks fondly of his time playing RuneScape, but is not about to come back to it. Right now, I'm enjoying World of Warcraft, thanks to the excellent community (which I will admit, isn't always so good, but you tend to find your groove and stay in it) and the challenging and fun content the development team are coming up with on a fairly regular basis.

  2. I'm still facepalming.

My guild hasn't killed anything past FL yet. -.-

Really? XT-002 has been so nerfed I would be amazed if you couldn't get him down still.

Herein lies the problem. We spent one night trying XT the week it came out.

We've spent basically every raid night since trying to work out Ignis, and when the trash respawns, trying Razorscale until we call the night.

    Not happy at all.

Ignis is the hardest of the 3.

    I know..

  4. extremely high lvl guys who probably dont have time to help run you through things (just guessing, you can always prove me wrong i suppose)

It's pretty much the opposite; the people who are maxed out usually have more free time to run people through instances and quests. :P

I'm kinda 50/50 about the patch tonight. I kinda wish it was next week.

  5. You guys all need to thank your lucky stars you don't live in Australia.

If our major provider has issues with its Pacific trunks, none of us can connect. Touch wood, in my 2ish years of playing WoW I've only ever had two minor issues (ie; could connect to some American nodes but not the Blizzard servers).

It's unbelievable that in 2009 we still have huge cables stretching out across the Pacific Ocean floor.

  6. This week I have been playing WoW like it's RS; Got Exalted with - Timbermaw - Argent Dawn - Cenarion Circle; giving me all the titles.

what is your name? I want to look you up. :ugeek:

http://www.wowarmory.com/character-shee ... n=Leonicus Showing in my limited PvP pieces at the moment. Just don't look at my 2v2 rating.

Biox, how did you go about getting Cenarion Circle rep?

    Just running AQ a lot?

Grinding the Twilight mobs in Silithus, and turning in the Texts they drop (10 items = 500 rep).

  7.

Looking at my armory and my achievements you can see how few ten man achievements i actually have, this is because i find ten man naxx and the other ten mans so utterly dull and boring that i have never really gone back to any ten mans since raiding hard on twenty five mans.

Same here, lol. I got turned down for a Naxx 10 pug because I couldn't link the Fall achievement. I kept linking the 25 man one and arguing with the guy but he didn't deem it good enough.

  8. I usually sit at about 100-150.

for those of you with bad lag, there is a registry fix you can try, I'll try to find the guide, but apparently it almost halves your latency in some cases.

I've done it, and I sit around 250-290. It's not so bad but I do sometimes get a little tickle on Safety Dance.

In a related story I'm [bleep]ing sick of being in a guild that will never get Immortal or Undying. I just hope we will get 3D done before the patch (but probably not, ugh).

  9. ..i dont know why but there is no way i can stomach going through northrend again.

That's what I'm thinking too.. I've done it twice already, and was going to dualbox my priest and DK once the DK is 70 (65 now). But, meh.. we'll see about that.

cowboy14: the guys are right, affliction is the best spec to play until you reach level 50, when you can respec your talents and get the Felguard in Demonology. By that stage it will take you a while to get used to, since you'll be used to dotting (damage over time spells) and running to kill things. A Felguard basically works like a pet Warrior - he can charge-stun, do big damage and hold threat while you throw shadow bolts and/or fire spells at the target. It'll take a bit of time to get used to but once you get the hang of it, you'll find levelling easy. The most important thing to remember with it is to keep the pet alive, because if he drops, you will too - very quickly.

Same goes for getting your mount, once you hit 30 you'll wonder how you managed to do things beforehand.

  10. The only way to avoid rogues is to increase your stealth detection (somehow) or always keep moving and facing opposite directions. Once you fear the rogue, put your DoTs on him and keep him feared until dead. The only way he can kill you is if he catches you while he is stealthed, or he kicks you while you're casting fear.

DOTDOTDOTDOT. More dots. More. Dot some more. More.

And yeah, save Death Coil for your last chance fear.
