I bought some MTG cards in one of the Lofoten islands in 2005. Can't say I ever used them, but it's the last place on earth I expected to find American popular culture.

Taking extra evening classes on logic with the general public was a bad idea, especially because I've spent £147 on a course I already know.
But this is how one woman responded to a v basic syllogism:
P1: Socrates is a man.
P2: All men are mortal.
C: Socrates is mortal.
Then the woman asks, "what if Socrates is a woman?"

Horatio, please start at least talking to girls on a friendly basis. They're not all manic depressive lunatics that are out to ruin the lives of men. There are plenty out there, sure. I have a tendency to date them, but for every one basketcase I've dated I've encountered hundreds of normal girls varying everywhere from amazing to mediocre. Some girls suck. Some guys suck. Dont be the guy that sucks and you'll find more and more girls that dont suck.
On the topic of basket cases, I knew a girl who used to write fan fiction about me in which I would usually hunt down and murder her friends after they abandoned her in some way. Often I would kill myself at the end of the stories. The stories often included other little fetishes and had occasional drawings, e.g. of me executing one of her friends. I know this because she used to leave them in my locker at school. So, to be fair to Horatio, nutters do exist.
was she hot???
Looked like a teenage version of Mary Beard.

I'm amazed at how overpriced housing is in and around Newcastle. Cheapest place that has a proper kitchen AND isn't share accommodation is like 300p/w. the problem is I have to be close to work since I don't have a car and public transport isn't very reliable lately.
As in Newcastle in northeast England?

Maybe, though OT was active enough in 2011/2 to support it, I would have said.
And as for women, I wasn't expecting many, but still I know there are more than like 3 on TIF.

So found out today a buddy has made a commitment to get me laid by the end of summer.
Sounds like your buddy likes you.

Ha, I'm not doing anything with just 38 votes. Loads of regulars still haven't voted, for example - some of which I've seen browsing the thread when I have been. And besides, 38 is a useless sample size and there is a horrendous gender imbalance.

When younger I was a shy, introverted, virgin loser
Same problem, I'm always misplacing my virgins.

I find this thread fascinating because the whole dating thing is so formal and ritualized in America, it seems. Neither in the UK or Italy have I come across precedents for dates, what to do on a first date, etc. Although in both countries alcohol is legal from a younger age and widely used from much younger, so I suppose it makes everything easier. And in Italy you'd be lucky to go on a "date" without running into someone you know, who joins your table, then their cousin joins, and it snowballs from there.

Today I went for a run in the woods ~5 miles from my house. While running, two prepubescent boys started shouting obscene words at me from up a tall tree - they rhymed with "clucker" and "punt" and were combined to make "clucking punt." Of course I did the right thing, which was to shake the tree until they said sorry. I left thinking maybe they, after all, were the clucking punts.

And Internet Explorer market share correlates with murder ratesI remember a study once that found monogamy correlates with higher IQ. Just saying.
I never said it was conclusive, nor I think did the authors.
Not directly related to this thread, but I don't feel like finding the right place to put it on reddit. A [female] friend of mine who has dated guys in the past has a girlfriend, which is not the issue. She more or less just brought it up in casual conversation (I asked about her sweatshirt which was similar to one she already had, said it was her girlfriend's). As it is relevant, she brings it up.
My problem is totally internal but I don't want to continue being weird (or at least I think I am?) - my brain had categorized her as straight and is having a hard time ignoring/changing my arbitrary label. I think it's mostly because I am not at a point where I have acceptably boxed myself in and so having other people being totally cool with their sexuality is weirding me out. Which makes no sense but there you go. I overthink everything and like having everything labelled nicely and logically.
Thoughts?
We've had the whole thing about fluid sexuality bla bla, and this is not only true, but especially true in females, who are a lot more flexible than men. This is all from long ago, but if I remember right female sexuality is influenced by the menstrual cycle and there are periods in the cycle when women veer towards finding "feminine" traits more attractive, even in men - so it's not hard to imagine a "straight" woman going a little further and getting a girlfriend. Women only need to be attracted to men when they're fertile; men, ever fertile, tend to be more solidly hetero or homo. Again, this is not hard scientific fact, but it's one of many contending and maybe valid views (again, I may be remembering wrongly).

Aaaand she's coming to my place...
I am now officially doing the soundtrack for your life.

Funnily enough, those were two of the changes I liked least. I thought Sam worked as a servant - it fitted the sort of neo-medieval aspect of high fantasy, while the films make it into something too much like a bromance and decidedly modern. And Aragorn struck me as being oddly hung up on Isildur given he died 2000+ yrs prior.
I should also clarify that the extra exposition for Arwen I liked mainly because it was extra exposure to Liv Tyler.

I think the drama now merits its own theme tune, straight from greenest Paraguay.

Yesterday I re-watched all 3 Peter Jackson LotR films for the first time in ~ 10 yrs. I hadn't noticed before that they just leave Saruman stuck in Isengard, guarded by the Ents, and don't close that plot hole at all. So as far as the casual viewer knows, Saruman is stuck there indefinitely.

Thought I should point out your vote was cast in the 1.85-1.89m category.

Based on the description, she might well have STDs.

But the whole dramatic linchpin is still vague: how did you abuse her trust? Did you betray her in some way or was it to do with her trust fund? We must know why Elvira is so upset. And do you worry your friend Rodrigo might steal her away?

Ha ha my grandma's called Elvira.

I would find the drama easier to follow if there were named characters and concrete facts. Perhaps give them fake names, like Rodrigo and Elvira, to hide their identities. But at the moment it's too vague - I'm not really following the story.

Charadesman = charades + hangman.
Rules.
For making:
1. Each letter of a mystery word of your choosing (!) is indicated with an underscore. So, "bread" is _ _ _ _ _. Obviously put a space between them so you don't just get a line.
2. You must also put what class of word (noun, verb etc).
3. Up to 2 additional hints can be added - but they cannot be synonyms. Should add only qualifiers and other context to help narrow down.
4. Can post both generic things - shoe, sock, gold - and specific things, e.g. Raiders of the Lost Ark.
5. Don't spam: post one charadesman at a time.
For replying
1. Make sure it's clear where your answer is, if you're also going to post other text as well.
2. Give only one answers in your answer, no lists of "could it be a, b, c, d or e?".
3. Only reply once to each charadesman.
Example:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
- Noun
- Foodstuff
- Used as a preservative and for flavoring
[Answer is vinegar. Obviously don't add the answer in the question.]

The euro is a con which keeps German exports competitive whilst screwing over virtually every other member - including France these days.
