  1. Video Log 03.5 - "Live" Bonus XP Prep Commentary: Herblore Habitat, Hunting

Published on Mar 15, 2012 by AKwaspRS

This is the second part to my video log 03 (so I'm calling it vlog 3.5), wherein I share my tips with the RS community for having a fun and bountiful bonus XP weekend, which is coming up around the corner. I also share my feedback at my first experience with hunting jadinko's at the Herblore Habitat as I acquire the camouflage set for better chances of catching draconic jadinkos over the weekend. Link to first part:

This was my first attempt at a "live" commentary, wherein I recorded my reactions to actions onscreen in real time. This helped to capture some genuine emotions while playing through the activity; but overall resulted in a longer video since trying to keep a conversation going with myself & the audience while playing through new content proved very distracting. Whether you enjoyed this format or not, please leave me feedback if you'd like to see more "live" videos like this in the future, if there's some specific aspects I could improve, or if I should revert to voiceovers altogether.

    Epic luls @ 36:30

  2. FYI I've added a video tutorial on how to recover from death while Solo-ing Corp. I've also edited it into my original post.

This is a follow-up tutorial for recovering from death when solo-ing the Corporeal Beast. Dying at Corp is inevitable; whether you're unexperienced or just taking too many risks, eventually everyone dies at Corp. This isn't the end of the world, since recovering your equipment is rather simple, and this video illustrates the method. It is much easier and faster to recover from death at Corp than GWD because there's no need for killcount, but unlike most dungeons there are NO gravestone markers at the Corporeal Beast lair.

Note: Ganodermic armor does NOT degrade to 0 when dropped on death (unlike Barrows armor), and Goliath gloves do revert to coins. Therefore prioritize your items kept on death, and keep a healthy stash of games necklaces in your bank just in case.

In this 3rd video log, I share my tips with the RS community for having a fun and bountiful bonus XP weekend, which is coming up around the corner. I also share my feedback at my first experience with hunting jadinko's at the Herblore Habitat as I acquire the camouflage set for better chances of catching draconic jadinkos over the weekend. Part 2 of this video log features "live" commentary at my first attempts at capturing all the jadinkos to unlock the witchdoctor camouflage.

  4. Video Log 02 - Rhino Cape (TokHaar-Kal) Fight Kiln First Attempt = Successful

In this video log, I complete the Fight Kiln minigame in my first attempt. I wasn't entirely prepared for the epic battle, but scraped through it with just a few resources left over. This video log covers the equipment setup that I brought with me, explaining my rationale for the gear and inventory, and addresses some areas for improvement. Most impressively perhaps, I completed all 37 on my first attempt without the use of any Nex Armor or Spirit Shields - Bandos, Aramadyl, and Ganodermic armor served me just well.

Also check out my detailed Fight Kiln Guide:

My Fight Kiln guide is divided up into 6 sections, which educate players to complete the minigame without any prior knowledge of the Fight Kiln. Expensive Nex Armors and/ or Spirit Shields are not requirements for my method. Novice to intermediate players should use their best Beast of Burden, whereas advanced players should utilize Steel Titans.

  5. Excellent video guide, you covered just about everything there is to cover! I learned a bit such as what are best charm drops.

A few comments i would like to make are..

Spiritual mages i think are bad xp( but u covered that)

Terror dogs i think are horrible, since u fight in a multicombat area, and your pray is drained automatically(perhaps i fight in bad spot? if there is a better place to fight them let me know)

I fully agree with your block list :), i might switch desert strykewyverns for living rock creatures, just cus of how much i hate them, but hey, apparently there good xp sincegot lot hp, 1 defence, but are just extremely boring, so i suppose i would put up with them.

For the task that you frequently skip...

I would never skip fire giants since they are great to kill in the waterfall resource dungeon, alot of fire giants and you can cannon them in single combat, making them one of the most enjoyable task i get

Nechs, greaters, and abysal demons i would prolly never skip just because i can bring urns and gain easy pray xp, but if yur 99 pray then i suppose you can go for it and block them.

i wouls also never skip skeletal wyverns just cus there given in small numbers, you can kill them pretty fast with a cannon, and the bones sell for a lot, but if you only want xp, then maybe they good for being blocked( but if you only going for xp, mith drags should be blocked too no?)

Im okay with blocking task, but i think skipping task is something that ppl shouldnt do on a common basis.

Idk if my comments sound harsh or not, but i really do think it was an excellent guide and im not trying to offend you with my criticism.

Thanks for the positive feedback, I'm glad you found my guide helpful. There are more guides on my YouTube channel if you want to check them out. With your permission, I'd like to include part of your comments in the video description as part of a "FAQ".

I'll respond to some of your opinions with some more of my opinions:

Regarding Fire Giants, if you don't mind the long trek to the resource dungeon which isn't multicombat, then go for it. IMO it's faster to bring a Steel Titan into Chaos Tunnels and take them down that way, which still isn't particularly fast. I occasionally have slayed them that way, but ultimately it isn't rewarding or great XP and can get boring fast. My preference is to skip them.

Regarding Terror Dogs, they aren't great until you consider the Smoking Kills points they provide. Since they are very easily accessible with Slayer Ring teleport and are assigned in small quantities, the task can be completed very quickly. The primary reward from this task is quick & easy slayer points, so you can reliably skip worse tasks. If skips were unlimited, I'd skip these; but since points need to be earned, these are a quick win.

Regarding Infernal Urns & Ashes, they aren't as worthwhile as you might believe and I'll demonstrate. Let's assume you are assigned 200 infernal ash dropping monsters (black demons, abby demons, nechs) and use 8 urns to gain 200*62.5=12500XP or 12.5K xp. At the moment dragon bones cost 3269gp which yield 252xp at gilded altars, or 12.9722 gp/xp. Effectively you save 163K gp in Prayer XP by completing these tasks with urns. Is 163K worth completing these otherwise unrewarding, slow tasks? If collecting the charms also, perhaps. Whether these tasks are worthwhile will vary by player, but I suspect many players will lean away from these tasks.

Regarding Wyverns, they are decent to slay with a DFS partially because of the high price of wyvern bones, generous charm drops, and low assignment quantity. However, Frost Dragons yield better bones and charms right next door (although not Slayer monsters). I cannot help but feel that Frost Dragons are a better time investment since the only benefit of Wyverns (Slayer XP) isn't a great XP rate. That said, I'd still slay Wyverns for fun occasionally.

As a rule of thumb, the more expendable slayer points you've got banked, the more often skipping these tasks is advisable. If you are low on points or enjoy a specific task, do it! I could argue against slaying Blue Dragons all day, but at the end of the day I'd usually slay them just because I enjoy them and they're quick.

Supplementing my tutorial series is a spreadsheet freely available for quick reference while battling in the Fight Kiln. I've taken extra care to account for which monsters spawn on which wave, which dangerous spawn locations to look out for, which prayers to utilize for each wave and the best order to use them in, as well as when each crystal spawns with reminders to pickup the useful ones. This spreadsheet can be accessed from:

Fight Kiln Guide 01 Equipment/ Inventory Setup

Welcome to Part 01 of my Fight Kiln Guide. This episode introduces the equipment/ inventory setup recommended for attempting your first few fight kiln battles at a novice to intermediate level.

Fight Kiln Guide 02 Waves 1-10

Welcome to Part 02 of my Fight Kiln Guide. This episode details Waves 1-10 at a novice to intermediate level. The majority of enemies use ranged attacks and are best to dispose of with melee; the few mages are ranged. There is also an armadillo on wave 5 and Jad on wave 10. Remember to pick up the 4 recommended crystals at the start of waves 2, 4, 6, & 8. I assume you've already watched Part 01 - Inventory/ Equipment Setup and are following my advice before watching this video. http://[Censored - Don't use a URL shortner]/sEqdX

Fight Kiln Guide 03 Waves 11-20

Welcome to Part 03 of my Fight Kiln Guide. This episode details Waves 11-20 at a novice to intermediate level. The majority of enemies use magical attacks and are best to dispose of with ranged weapons. There is also an armadillo on wave 19 and Jad on wave 20. Remember to pick up the 4 recommended crystals at the start of waves 12, 14, 16, & 18. Use your ranged crystal once your overload from the first Jad expires, preferably near wave 13. I assume you've already watched Part 01 - Inventory/ Equipment Setup and are following my advice before watching this video. Watching the entire Fight Kiln Guide Playlist in order is recommended. http://[Censored - Don't use a URL shortner]/sEqdX

Fight Kiln Guide 04 Waves 21-30

Welcome to Part 04 of my Fight Kiln Guide. This episode details Waves 21-30 at a novice to intermediate level. This quarter starts off soley with melee monsters who are easy to safespot with magic. Waves 25-26 can be incredibly difficult without a proper method, and using an invulernability crystal here isn't a bad idea for first-time players. Waves 25-27 contain a mixture of melee, magical, and ranged enemies. There are also 6 armadillo on wave 28 and Jad on wave 20. Remember to pick up the 4 recommended crystals at the start of waves 24, 26, 28, & 30. Use a magic crystal for Jad, preferably near wave 30. I assume you've already watched Part 01 - Inventory/ Equipment Setup and are following my advice before watching this video. Watching the entire Fight Kiln Guide Playlist in order is recommended. http://[Censored - Don't use a URL shortner]/sEqdX

Fight Kiln Guide 05 Waves 31-Boss

Welcome to Part 05 of my Fight Kiln Guide. This episode details Waves 31-37 at a novice to intermediate level. This is the toughest quarter of the Fight Kiln, yet it starts off easy. Waves 31-33 each contain 4 Rangers, then Teddy Bears, then Magic Cats, respectively - these are protected against and blasted away fast. The remaining 4 waves each feature at least 1 Jad or worse. On wave 34, safespot Jad who spawns south, tank the Melee and mage the Ranger. On 35, use invulnerability to range the Magic cat, while safespotting Jad who spawned north; then repeat 34's method. 36 is double Jad, safespot them from the north and you'll be fine. Finally take down Har-Aken as described in the video to claim your awesome reward! http://[Censored - Don't use a URL shortner]/sEqdX

Fight Kiln Guide 06 Steel Titan Method

    Coming soon!

  7. vlogf.png

Hello everyone! I'm AKwasp and have started compiling video logs to chronicle my adventures around Runescape.

These video blogs (vlogs) are created as part of my YouTube channel for Runescape entertainment and education, highlighting my recent accomplishments as a player.

I've been a Runescape player since December 2000 and will be sharing with the community my accumulated knowledge and experience.

If you enjoy this content, check out my actual guides on my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/AKwaspRS

Since several vlogs have predated the creation of this thread, I'll update here until current; then this thread will be updated whenever new vlogs are posted to my AKwaspRS channel. Enjoy!

Additional Video Logs can be found in this playlist as they become available:

AKwaspRS Video Log 01 - 97 RC, 84 Hunter, Taskmaster Re-Unlock, Penance Aura, Hati/ Skoll

    [YOUTUBE]

    [/YOUTUBE]

Uploaded by AKwaspRS on Feb 19, 2012

In this video log, I earn 97 Runecrafting and 84 Hunter, bringing my total skill level to 2458. I also complete the new Burthrope tutorial to re-unlock the Taskmaster emote, and complete the 2012 Winter Runescape Events of Hati and Skoll. Finally, I purchase the Penance Aura from the Loyalty Rewards shop thanks to Jagex's bonus points during their 12 days of Christmas event.

  8. Sounds good overall, but there's missing improvements I was hoping for:

I'd love if ammo binds could be distributed. Meaning bind a few cosmics, several laws, some veng runes, maybe some surge runes, with arrows for the rest. The total amount of ammo wouldn't necessarily exceed the current 225.

I'd also love to see new rewards, preferably some items over lvl 80. I'd settle for lower level items with synergies to skills like hunter.

Oh, and craftable jewelery in dungeons, like amulets.

Or bringing dungeoneering skillcapes into the floors (99 & 120). Or at least ANY armor with a prayer bonus.

  9. When one gets on the computer, they head straight to the RuneScape website without so much as a second though, scanning for updates and whatnot. As for playing, one would feel the need to at least log in and enjoy its activities, putting off any work they were assigned to. I used to have an addiction to the game, but its progressively weakened over time as I got bored to it. In fact, I could easily quit now if I wanted and not feel any strong withdrawal.

I found it rather interesting how Runescape and Facebook could be interchanged in this comment, and both are pretty accurate.

  10. In my opinion the Dragon Warhammer was skipped over just like the Dragon Crossbow. Chaotic Crossbows and Mauls are basically better than any dragon counterpart could be. To be fair, a warhammer would be only one-handed, allowing for a defender or shield, but meh. The only 2 advantages would be: non-degrading and special attacks. Every elite armor in the weapon degrades, so it isn't likely to be a game changer unless it degrades. The only real reason to want a Dragon Warhammer is if it came with an awesome special attack, possibly a cross between the specials of Dragon Claws and Granite Mauls - but isn't that already called AGS?

  11. I was hoping these new bolts work against NPC's similar to the Hexhunter bow! That would be wicked against magical monsters like the TokHaar-Ket-Zek's in Fight Kiln and Fight Caves, perhaps even Jad, Har-Aken, and let's not forget Nex...

But since their special effect is strictly PvP, it seriously limits my potential applications because I don't PK. I bet we'll see lots of complaining PK'ers though. Since it hurts unarmored enemies as well as magers, I forsee this wrecking potential rushers, 3-itemers, etc. who might now need to start wearing decent armor.

  12.

To celebrate my birthday I'm giving back to my fans in the community with a free giveaway! Up for grabs are two (2) ninety day Runescape Membership Cards! This giveaway only last 2 weeks, since my birthday is fast approaching! You'll also be able to claim a vanity item ingame, currently the Barbed Bow.

I'm only asking for 2 requirements:

    1) Be a Subscriber!

    2) Post a comment to this video with feedback on my new armor! (on YouTube)

There's 8 sample sets of armor in the video to choose from, but don't let these choices limit your imagination. Respond with any dark armor setup you think would look cool on my character and the most popular response will be adopted! So far I'm leaning towards Ahrim's setup, but I'm going to let my subscribers decide instead!

  13. So I tried out your method today, it worked great and I managed to solo the corp with ease. The only problem I encountered was that it took around 12-13 minutes. I was wondering if you had any suggestions to improve my kill speed.

Thanks for the great guide

Honestly, 12 minutes to solo the second strongest boss in the game isn't bad. Consider for a moment that soloing the strongest boss Nex is going to take upwards of an hour and questionably abusing game mechanics.

The best way to improve your skill is quite simply experience. The more kills you rack up, the better you'll understand the mechanics involved. If you aren't optimally deploying your dreadnips, that could account for your slower times, especially if you entirely forgo utilizing dreadnips.

If all you want is speed, bring a cannon and just dodge the core. The slight increase in speed isn't worth the cannonball costs, at least not in the short run.

On a side note, I really like killing Corp because there's always a chance of looting the single most valuable drop in the game - the Divine. To be fair though, you'll receive far more troll drops like mystic robes.

Also, yes the rhino cape is a better option and I use it now but it wasn't released yet when I created the guide.

The magic defense is great, I would definitely recommend it if you can't obtain an Eagle-Eyed Kiteshield or Spectral Spirit Shield. It is definitely an inexpensive alternative - but it does lack the awesome magic absorption of EEK.

In the video guide I listed 5 items as compulsory gear: Zammy Spear, Goliath Gloves, and Ganodermic armor set. Everything else can be modified according to what gear you can access or afford; obviously I recommend the gear I show in video.

P.S. I have updated the video description to include Questions and Answers since the initial release of my guide.

  16. Sounds awesome, I'm especially excited for the vast graphical updates!

New gnome environment will be interesting, but updating all those armor sets will be the best and have the largest impact on all players across the game.

I'm also excited to finish up the Taskmaster elite set. The rewards don't seem on par with previous elite rewards, but I'll reserve judgment until release.
