  1. Been a bit absent recently due to degree stress. Came back and got to grips with the evolution of combat today, I'm liking the changes. The experience tombs and my ToG meant I got two levels...
  2. Did some DG to take my mind off some things in the personal life. Dinged, realized it was 1am. Off to bed.
  3. Thanks :) As I believe I stated in my initial post, I'm not playing a wole lot at the moment but I have some goals for the end of the week. - Finish 'The Elder Kiln' - Fish 1k Rocktails - Put pictures on my original post.
  4. My ToG will go on DG for a long time to come, so I don't know if I want to waste lamps on it as well. I mean, I'm not saying I don't enjoy DG but I don't enjoy it as much as other things in the game. if I ever complete, like, EVERYTHING else (which probably won't happen ever) I'd try and max it, but until then I'm happy without. Those were the three I was thinking of. I thought with Summoning and Herb there was a possibilty of making a little bit of moeny back, but with prayer, once the money is gone, it's gone, so I was going to train that with most of my lamps first. I just wanted someone else to tell me that was a good idea, lol. Also, congrats on 99 Str and thieving :)
  5. Before I left, quite a while ago, the recommended skill to spend exp lamps on was prayer. Now with summoning and construction also being money drains, I was wondering if general advice had changed - especially due to the new abundance of lamps from SoF and random events.
  6. I probably should've thought to do that - I'll give it a shot, thanks.
  7. I've been trying to buy super strength potions for almost a week but no-one on the GE seems to be selling them. I might end up making them myself just to try and get this done.
  8. Aha, fair enough. Thanks! Not at the moment but depending on how much I get back into the game I might add some stuff onto it - regain quest cape, for example. That's what I've been doing so far. Turns a nice profit, though I'm thinking of not selling them and saving them for an attempt at 99 cooking after fishing - it's another relatively AFKable thing :) Thanks :) __ Haven't played at all for the last 3 days - I've been ill with freshers' flu, so I haven't done much at all! Will hopefully post a more entertaining update later tonight.
  9. Hey guys, I'm currently trying to complete the elder kiln. I'm at the stage where I have to protect the ga'al guy from all the others, and am finding it really difficult. Either he dies, or I die. I always manage to take out the mage but then I struggle to keep up with the rest of them. Am I just not high enough level in combat? I'm 79 Atk/81 Str/87 Def/70 Prayer. I've been using Torag's, the obsidian shield and an abyssal whip. Thanks!
  10. Ah, awesome, thanks :) I did Tears of Guthix for the first time in a LONG time today. I got 154 tears (which isn't TOO shabby) and got level 47 DG out of it. I tried to upload a picture but imageshack was being weird. I'm now 100k exp away from 96 fishing, too. :)
  11. I will probably try and get the fishers outfit for the extra exp, so will be doing this a fairly large amount
  12. I don't know the etiquette for posting on your own blog - given that posts in Blogscape aren't counted towards your post total, I'm hoping double posts are permissible. I caught around 150 monkfish today whilst completing an essay, using an Ibis to catch swordfish. I've realized I've forgotten how summoner points work and had to quickly look up a guide for that. If I get a time after finishing the rest of the reading I have to do tonight, I want to try and complete the Elder Kiln so that I can do as much of the current mini-event as possible.
  13. Yeah, I've noticed a trend towards maxing exp over having fun recently, I made a threat about it in general. I'll have a trawl through rune wiki over the next few days then - thanks!
  14. I've been away from RS for quite some time, so when I came back and started questing, I found that some of the quests chains I 'finished' now have continuations: for example there's a quest called 'Do No Evil' that counties loads of them. I'm quite interested in in-game-lore and quest narratives, and because I've forgotten the majority of what's happened in the game during my quests, I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that had all of the RuneScape lore, including from quests, in one place? Just the background to the dwarves and the elves and the majharrat etc. :)
  15. Yep, they lied. There's a thread about this in general discussion with many people taking issue with it the same way you did. In terms of getting to know this stuff, it's a good idea to kep an eye on the front page of the RS website or on the general discussion board of TIF: I'm learning quite a lot that way, having been away from the game for a year or two.
  16. I'll bear (bare? not sure which) this in mind, thanks! Ah ok, I understand now. I was going to say if you played this long without talking to people I would have both respect and concern for you :P
  17. Hello! My name is Andufus, and this is my blog. Please follow me on my journey, currently to 99 fishing! A little about myself... As a 'real-life person': I'm an 18 year old, UK-based University student studying English and Philosophy at Warwick University. I want to be either a journalist or a novelist, and thus am mostly drawn to the questing aspect of the game, or interaction with other players. As a quirky fact about me, when I drink champagne I add lemonade. As a RuneScaper: I've played on and off for several years. Before October 2012, the last time I logged on was over a year ago, and the time before the odd few weeks or so of that playing was at least another year before that. Now that I'm at University and have some time to fill, I thought it would be a good idea to return to a community I missed. My main intention is to AFK skill whilst reading the books I have to for my course, to make both tasks a little more interesting because, trust me, some of the books I have to read are torture. It'd also be nice to catch up with any old friends I catch online. I have multiple goals, some requiring a lot more attention to the game than others, but the main one is this: making friends. In the time since I've left the game and re-joined, most of my friends have left: there are maybe a token three or four still around, either with ridiculously high skill levels or one of them actually maxed out. I want to get in touch with people I sued to know and meet new people, to make the game as social as I believe it should be. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I want to reforge TET under the banner of friendship or anything, I just want to do more than grind sometimes. Anyway, some of the other goals are... - Level 99 Fishing. This is the main reason I came back, before I left 2 years ago or so, I really wanted to trim my Firemaking cape and I put it on my 'bucket list'* to do. Now is the time I'm aiming to cross this off that list. - 4000 Chompy kills. This seems like a really quirky, fun goal to go for that I can do whilst training range, one of the skills that I wanted to find a way to work on. I dunno, it seems like a rare achievement that might be fun to do. - Complete as many quests as possible. Because, as I said, I love the narrative aspects and story-lines, this is a no-brainer. I used to have a Questing cape, but one of the big quests (I believe it was one of the elven ones) knocked me off that pedestal and I never got roudn to reclaiming it. I started this tonight with 'Stolen Hearts' and 'A Diamond in the Rough', both easy quests that came out since I left, which seemed like a good place to pick up. So, on with the 'bloggy' part, I suppose... Actual Progress: First few days: The thing that struck me when I returned the other day is how different the interface is. I barely know my way around the controls, let alone my way to anywhere other than Varrock or Lumbridge. All of my RuneScapian knowledge seems to have abandoned me, which is a weird position to be in. I feel like I'm learning to play all over again. For example, I keep right clicking to move and being annoyed when nothing happens, because I played too much League of Legends in my absence from RS. Eventually I worked my way round to completing both 'Stolen Hearts' and 'Diamond in the Rough', having been swayed both by Wouter and myself to rejoin RS membership. 21/10/12:6 96 Fishing! :) 28/11/12: 97 Fishing - I should probably play a bit more.... * Bucket list = if you don't know, a bucket list is a list of things to do before you die (IE 'kick the bucket'.) My personal rule is that onc it's on the list, you can't take it off until it's done, which was the main temptation that brought me back: I wanted to get it out of the way.
  18. This is a pretty unsubstantiated claim - I mean, as I said earlier, TET flew in the face of that. I shall have to take a look at these places. The problem is that I don't neccesarily want to stand around doing nothing but talking: and with P2P (which I currently am not) you can fletch or whatever in the bank or al karid or whatever, but in F2P there isn't much like that you can feasibly do. Except crafting, I guess. Yeah, I think I'd probably consider that casual - you're the same as me in terms of amount of time played/levels, or at least in a relativeratio. Thanks for the advice though - I'll just have to have a look around, I guess! Still, I think it's an interesting topic to discuss and other people seem to have agreed.
  19. I didn't say I was looking for 'inefficient' players - I just noticed that there was a trend towards efficiency that hadn't existed. And I don't think there's a correlation between social and inefficient. But, I mean, if I myself was to try and max out in this game, without some good friends to talk to along the way, it would definitely begin to feel like torture after a while. Your argument seems well reasoned: particularly the part about clan-chats etc. May I ask which clan chats you use and how you found the players you talk to inthem/that host them? Was it through tip.it or people you knew before the surge towards seriousness? I'll admit the max cape was my main suspicion: when I heard about it, even I was tempted to try and get it, before I realized how much time that would take and how few people I know who still actively play this game from *wipes nostalgic tear* the good old days. Solo as in you skill alone or solo as in you don't talk to people? To each their own but I can't imagine enjoying RS myself without meeting other, social, players. Sorry to be the continual asker of questions (as I appear to be both in this thread and in my help and advice about fishing - you'll notice the hypocricy of posting these two threads at the same time, by the way) but where would you say are the busier areas of f2p? I played for a little while yesterday doing some fly fishing in edgeville and people seemed to either be fishing or cutting wood, but with very little conversation. Where would you recommend I check out, as it were? Also, where are all these exp boosts coming from? I keep hearing about them but not actually knowing what they are. This makes sense, I suppose. Whilst I'll admit I was lamenting the loss of the events team in the original post, I wasn't criticizing the decision at all: if it's working, great! But you're probably right about the shift being more noticeable here than elsewhere: but given this was my old haunt, I figured here would be the place to check, and I took it as representative of a swing in attitude across the whole game, perhaps incorrectly.
  20. Ok, thanks very much for the information! I could ask again what a fishing urn is (really, it's like explaining this stuff to a baby with me - I've been away so long) but I'll just have a look around the tip.it website for more information about skilling - if I'm serious about getting back into the game (which I think I am, but don't quote me) it won't hurt to have a vague idea what I'm doing!
  21. Aloha, Den. Just as a case in point, your signature has the word 'completionist' in it ;) May I ask the kind of things that Jagex has added or removed from the game that has caused the shift in focus? When I left, people were complaining they were making the game too 12 year old+ focused, is it now the opposite? Have they changed the game's direction, to require commitment that only older players can give? So, where do I find these fabled, hidden casual players? I wasn't neccesarily talking about getting the most efficient gameplay: like, I wasn't asking why people are all fly-fishing now, I was simply asking why there don't seem to be people stood around in banks chatting anymore. Everyone is doing something that contributes to a goal, seemingly at the expense of the social side. Can you explain this shifting attitude, though? What's caused the slide towards immaturity? Is the game too easy now, is there simply too much to achieve but also too easily?
  22. Sorry for my general ignorance, but a few follow-up questions... (I've been away from the game for a long time) Rock-tails are the fish you can only get in the place under the mining guild, right? That seems to sound familiar. What is the Call of the Sea aura, what is the fishers outfit, and how do I get them/use them? Thanks for the help, though!
