  1. I finished my first day of PoP and it is by far one of my favorite updates in a long time.

I have unlocked 3 of the visitors, reached The Skull, 11 ship upgrades, 4 port upgrades, 1459 chimes and 1301 bamboo.

    6,207 travelled as well.

So should my priority be saving up bamboo so I can upgrade the port office? More ship upgrades? Hire better crew?

  2. So is the consensus that after maul, I should get the shields and staff only?

The other chaotics are by no means 'not worth it'. I for one cannot afford drygore weapons, nor have i finished the quests for a royal crossbow. If you don't mind the work for the tokens, don't feel like you are wasting them by getting the other chaotics as well.

  3. So did he do it? I watched the whole video and the only thing I can guess at is the KK won't use his special attack if the player he is after is more than a certain amount of squares away. Woox was running in, taking a swing, the running off immediately.

  4. I was one of the people that said jagex should go back to the old days. After reading all the comments on this thread, I can't disagree with the majority opinion. Going backwards isn't an option.

As far as gong forward is concerned, I don't know what jagex's theory is. Maybe they don't have one. Maybe they are milking the game for everything it has while only putting out unpolished new content.

If only there was another game like runescape, but new and cool and captured my imagination like RS did.

  5. I just want to contribute to the discussion about runecape being a total grind now. I have been back playing since Jan. 1 after a 1.5 year break, and I started my account before farming came out. I feel like the game has less grinding than ever before. Everything has a x-all option (even cleaning herbs!), the task bar makes for fast dropping of ores and things like that, there are concentrated ores (mining traditionally was one of the hardest grinds, not anymore), there are insanely fast combat xp rates out there if you want them, slayer is faster than ever, loadstones makes getting around so quick and you never have to run back to the bank for teleport stuff, and it just goes on and on. Jagex has really tried to reduce the amount of clicking we have to do.

Add on top of that the fact that 99% of people here probably are watching netflix or going on reddit while playing and you are doing almost exactly the same thing as millions of people around the world are, but playing a cool game at the same time. When I am banging out guests (doing one right now) I am watching Game of Thrones. Before Jan. 1, I would have been watching game of thrones but would have been eating something the whole time. Now, I am playing runescape instead of boredom eating. Which is more healthy?

There are things jagex has done wrong, there are things that are outside of jagex control that are going on, and then there are a lot of things that have been good. Like I stated earlier in this thread, it is my belief that the unimaginable success of runescape is both unprecedented (which 12 year old game are other people playing massively online? Oh right, none) and going to be a problem going forward. Jagex is going to have to pioneer new territory and see if they can make a game span 20, 25, 30 years.

Remember the opening music when you would go to log in to RS2?

Tell me that doesn't make you feel something good. We all want to feel that again every time we log in.

  6. They kind of alluded to the reality of the situation. The game is too old. 12 years of resource creation and content additions is taking it's toll. It might take near financial ruin for them to do it, but this game needs a massive reset.

What does this statement even mean? Vapid hysteria.

Let me elaborate, but I will start by saying I am far from hysteric. I don't worry about the inevitable, and I am getting excited to see what the future holds.

What I mean is that with each update in the last 12 years, usually something else that already existed in the game becomes completely unused. Just off the top of my head, the dragon chainbody. Once the peak of wealth and coolness, is now so unexciting that when I got it as a drop just screwing around at the KQ, my pulse didn't even increase. You never see people asking if anyone wants to go team the KQ, because I could solo about 25 kills without banking.

Now extend that rational out for 12 years. At this point there is sooooooooooooooo much content that is unused and outdated. A new player joins (maybe a kid just old enough for his parents to let him explore the internet) and it is all too overwhelming. Try to even imagine getting certain things done that require large amounts of people, but no one even does anymore.

There aren't many ways around it either. Jagex could start just wiping out old content and streamlining the race to the top. They could reduce the amount of worlds I guess so its not just 900 in all of them. But if they did these things just imagine what the hardcore base would say? "OMG YOU GOT RID OF THE AGILITY PYRAMID I WAS SO TOTALLY GOING TO USE THAT AGAIN ONE DAY!!!11!!"

So what does all that mean to me? Well I'm not entirely sure. It is Jagex game and it's their revenue stream to lose. If it were my company, I would have never let it get to this point. But lets say Jagex sold me the game for a dollar and I had to turn it around. I would probably start thinking hard about a third runescape to which people could transfer their accounts. It is extreme but in my eyes it will soon be time for extreme measures.

  7. I already have a Cmaul, and I tried using it instead of the rapier and shield. While I did land more hits, the inability to use defense abilities resulted in me dying much sooner. Resonance, Preparation, Reflect, and Rejuvenate were able to keep my alive for a long time without eating food. I guess I can give it another shot with the Gano boots, head, and gloves.

  8. All of my attempts to defeat the final boss in Brink of Extinction have been meet with failure. The farthest along I have gotten was to the point where the ranger has been killed and the 2 melee dudes are helping the boss. I got to the point where the boss was at half health but my food ran out.

    My setup was:

    Penance

    Bandos Helm

    Demon Horn Neckless

    Skill Cape (t)

    Rapier

    Bandos Chestplate

    Blessed Spirit Shield

    Bandos Tasset

    Onyx (i)

    Bandos Boots

    Barrows Gloves

    My Inventory was:

Overload Flask - Prayer Renewal Flask - Extreme Prayer Flask - Extreme Prayer Flask (EPF)

EPF - EPF - EPF -EPF

Rocktails all the way down for the rest

I found that Flasks of Sara brews weren't helpful because they took so many ticks to consume that all I was doing was healing and doing no attacking.

I would prioritize my abilites toward defense.

What can I change to beat this guy? I am willing to go bang out 200k tokens for a chaotic kiteshield if need be, but collecting the coins to get a divine would take me a a month probably. I rather not do that because the whole point of doing this quest is to get closer to a royal crossbow which I want to use for boss hunting.

    Please Help

  9. I am quickly getting the impression that Jagex has become incompetent. I am expecting any day now for them to announce the game has been unprofitable for over a year and they are going to just shut down half the worlds, quit doing updates, and move onto other games.

  10. Everyone seems unhappy with the game, but I am really enjoying it again for the first time since 2008.

The only real problems I see are that the game is pretty damn hard for a noob to start playing, and that the game is experiencing the inevitable effects of age. 12 years of items being crated faster than they are destroyed. Whips are a great example.

If jagex wanted to shock some life back into the game and get 4-5 years of momentum, they should raise the max level to 120 in each skill, but don't immediately release skill capes for them. They should start removing items from the game using the grandexchange. When someone sells an item they want to remove, they just delete it and hand the person cash.

Stop releasing big content updates for like a year as well. Let things be static and just fight botting actively. Let their people work on big picture things for a whole year. They can turn this thing around, and I like the EoC and I think they can do it.

  11. Dual wield as a concept is inferior, but that doesn't necessarily make the new weapons inferior to the chaotic maul in DPS terms. If that's why the prices are crashing, because that's what people believe, and then it turns out they do dish out more damage, they'll rebound back very quickly.

Dual wield is inferior to 2h, because the offhand weapon isn't taken in count when using abilities. They should have fixed this a while ago, but for some reason, they haven't....

Sorry for complaining so much, but Jagex has to be one of the worst companies I've ever seen when it comes to balancing stuff. There are still so many issues going on that have been in the game since beta and they STILL haven't been fixed.

People complain about this but I fail to see the darn issue.

2h is best when using abilities as the whole weapon effects abilities.

Dual is best for momentuming slayer tasks as it reduces overkill, but increases speed.

Each has its use one for pvm one for slayer, so where's the issue?

I don't see the issue either. I did a comparison during slayer tasks between Cmaul and duel CLS and the CLS was much better during momentum.

That is how a well made game works, everything is good in it's own niche.

  12. Snip

If you really enjoy dungeoneering, it would a good idea to invest in the rings, berserker/desperado/blazer are all still recommended I think.

I have done that already up to Tier 7 in each I believe. Wasn't worth it past 7 imo.

I ended up getting 99 this afternoon and buying the offhand long and crossbow. I used the rest of my tokens getting bone crusher, arcane stream, and the demon horn.

  13. Hey tip.it. When I heard about the EoC I bought a membership and have been playing again since Jan 1. I have been doing almost exclusively dungeoneering, and I have gone from 95 to 475k xp short of 99. I have a lot of tokens and a lot of chaotics, but I am not quite sure on anything.

    I have:

    - Rapier and offhand version

    -Maul

    -CLS

    -CCB

    and 250k tokens.

Of course the eoc has really changed dungeoneering and I find it really fun. It is basically a minigame, not a skill, but I like it. I can see myself doing dungeons until I have enough tokens for everything, but its a lot of time.

    EoC related questions:

    - Before the update, it was easy to know what the most ideal loadouts were for any given scenario. Bandos armour, d boots, fury, dfs, crapier, fury, slayer full helm or whatever. Torva if you could afford it. Divine/Ely if you could afford it. Simple. Now I have no idea what to equip in most slots. Should I be wearing a shield only when fighting something that could potentially KO me? I figure that because there are so many ways to heal when doing slayer tasks or general PvM that the trade of of dps for defense is stupid.

    - What in the hell do I equip for ranged and mage? I have no idea what the obvious loadouts are for these. I prefer stuff that doesn't degrade but I can live with it.

    - What is the deal with wands/staffs/books? Mage looks really freaking cool now, and I have seen youtube vidoes of people just laying down some hurt using momentum and what looks like a wand.

I feel like I am just on the edge of really understanding the new combat system, but when I want to go on a slayer task to take a break from dungeoneering, I have no idea what to bring.

p.s. I really wish I would stop giving away all my stuff when I stop playing :(

  14. I can't remember what email address I used to create my old tip.it account so I had to make a new one. I started playing in 2006 I believe. I played way too much for a long time, quit over and over, saw the game change and get worse, and then free trade came back. I started botting like everyone else to make gp to sell for money. I think I made like $10-20 after paying for all the scripts and it just got to be too much trouble so I stopped. I kind of looked back every once in a while and saw this announcement about jagex breaking all the bots. I checked to see if my main account was banned and it hasn't been. I guess I got lucky.

School has gotten too easy and I am about to enter my senior year. I am looking at maybe getting back into the game for some cheap entertainment. So tip.it, tell me:

    - Are bots really gone? They ruined the game and I was even part of the problem. All I saw were bots so I just joined in. Reminds me of steroids in sports. Has the game been irreparably damaged by botting, RWTing, the combat update, or anything else?

    - I have 99 rcing and access to Frost dragons. What is the best way to grind for cash to get off the ground again?

    - Are there any game changing things I need to know about? Examples from the past would be curses, chaotic weapons, and extreme potions.

    - Anything else in general I should know?

    Thanks
