  1. You're talking about biometrics. And yah, sorry, not gonna happen, people would have to go buy finger-print readers or retinal-scanners, and you know what? Noone would care enough .
  2. I like to think that this forum topic gave jagex the idea for bank PIN's 8-)
  3. Although this thread is for anti-stealable banks, for argument's sake let's go over the present general security situation: [1] everyone has a unique password {keylogger vulnerable} [2] everyone CAN set recovery questions {not vulnerable} [3] members may use credit card or member PIN info for recovery {not vulnerable} As you can see, these 3 (perhaps there are more) methods are used almst exclusively to protect accounts. The password can be keylogged, but f2p members can set recov questions, and members can also use credit card info, which is harder (but of course not impossible) to keylog. Where does the Bank PIN fit in? It is a stalling mechanism, nothing more. It doesn't protect your bank from thievery; it supposedly gives you enough time to get Customer Service to lockdown your account (3 days). If you don't set it in motion, nobody will do it for you. So, are you suggesting a login PIN with an identical interface as the Bank PIN (numbers randomly switch about)? Anything less is loggable and worthless. The interface itself has to be randomized (I point again to the "sleep" feature in RS classic, if you know what that is). However, interface aside, there is no purpose to an account PIN. The Bank PIN is to alert you of a hacker, and give you enough time to change your account info. What would the account PIN do? It seems a bit wasteful. And of course prevention is the best way to keep from being hacked. We're talking about extra account protection.
  4. More passwords and PIN's can be logged as easily as a small amount of passwords and PIN's. Ergo, more passwords would not only make little difference security wise, it would make it a pain to log in and do other basic functions. While protection of a wide array of actions might seem desirable to some, most would not welcome the changes ~ ergo, such additions would likely to be implemented. IP log in also seems like a great idea, but unfortunately there are also some flaws in such a system. Have you ever heard of dynamic IP's? If not, there is some mention of them previously in this thread (p.2 i believe, not sure). From my limited understanding, these IP's can be changed with relative ease if you know what you are doing. So if you log on based upon IP, consider this question: what if you change IP's? This can happen for various reasons (including the one above). You can't log on. Jagex would have to add a whole section for "IP recovery/changes" to their customer service. I wouldn't presume to know the inner workings of Jagex, but what I do know is that with such a section, Jagex would require more staff and capital to moniter IP connectivity. In closing, IP log in would be ideal, but for logistical reasons I believe it shall never come about.[
  5. And 1 year later... We have bank PIN's! Kudos to Jagex. Perhaps they looked at this post and took notice :? I like to think so anyway.
  6. Word. Most people who do "get keylogged" were dumb enough to search for "cheats," then downloaded it themselves. So don't be dumb. Or download anti-intrusion software and run it every session...
  7. I could definetely see some quest starts from the various ports (each one has a different quest that opens up a small area/island?). That way the different places could be distinct and unique and not all of the same boring thing (points at lumbridge castle and varrock castle). I realize that horses do not originate from China. But we all know that European horsemanship is pretty lame :). I guess I've been playing too much dynasty warriors recently...I'll let the horse thing go. I just would like to say thanks for not running me out of the forum. I understand it would take alot of work for jagex to do some of these things, but wouldn't this draw in a (gasp) larger crowd of people? Maybe. :? I am also asking if anyone knows of more Chinese weapons/armor/technology to be added, I've done alot of reading on Samurai warfare but am completely ignorant about the Chinese side. Any help or criticism would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Fair enough. I guess I am a bit sick of all this European Medieval Warfare theme. As to the "expanding world" bit, didn't the same thing happen 16th century Europe? Suddenly everyone was sending expeditions for the Indies, etc. Seems like a good excuse to me "So-and So discovered this place, everyone wants to trade with them, and thus the exploration of the Runescape world bloomed." I threw in the whol merchant faction bit because of there being 3 gods (evil good nuetral), so one faction would be for each standing. Don't worry about the flaming thats about to happen, i expected this, especially since I have few posts. I have thick skin.
  9. A great idea for a new update would be: <*The Introduction of Japan And China*> **Note, would not be named "Japan" or "China"** Including: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Skills: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Horsemanship (Fire Arrows, Cast Magic, Wage Melee Destruction from horseback/elephantback) Caravan Trading (ala Silk Road) Seamanship (expand Castle Wars and wilderness, buy/repair/loot ships) Chi Magic (use inner balance to unlock new magics) Unarmed Combat (Use your Agility to overcome an armed foe) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Weapons --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Japan: katana, o-katana (sword, 2h), naginata (spear), vajra (type of mace), nunchaku (ala Abysall Whip), shuriken (throwing star), war fan, doublesword (think a hally with a blade on each end), etc From China: Cho-Ku-No (crossbow with magazine of arrows), New Arrows, Rockets (ala Multicannon), etc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New Armor ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From Japan: Kabuto (helm + mask), Samurai armor (half plate, half leather), Ninja Uniforms (higher Agility makes u hard to hit instead of higher Defence), sandals, etc. From China: Silk Garments (mage robes with high stab and slash, weak crush defence ), Armored Gauntlets (extra armor for meleers), etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- New Quests: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join one of 3 factions vying for power in Japan (imperial, criminal, merchant) Imperial = uphold the laws, bust crime rings, combat the criminal element criminal = assasinate, poison, gain money from illegal street fighting, lay traps for the authorities Merchant = protect caravans, blackmail, mercenaries -------------------------------------------------------------------- New Features ------------------------------------------------------------------ New ways to level agility that don't bite (Ninja) Earn Prestige with diffferent factions Use Sea Craft to turn the tide of Battle, become a Pirate, or reach new fishing spots New Foods (curry, sushi, calamari to name a few) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- IT WOULD REVOLUTIONIZE THE GAME -------------------------------------------------------------------------- What Say You? Why settle for a "Dragon Ninja Sword" when you can have the whole kit and kaboodle?
  10. Thanks gotsol, i edited it alot, including right after u posted
  11. In response to gotsol's idea: Yes it's good in theory, but remember, most of runescape's inner workings happen not on your computer, but on the jagex servers. This means jagex would have to make sure the ppl using the account have the correct ip's. Indeed this could be done. However, what if a hacker leaves a keylogger and a tunneler as well, so that the hacker could use your comp's connection? Granted, this would take a c**p load of work and coding, but we're being hypothetical here... My own suggestion: <-------Eric2203, maybe this solves ur problem What about the first time you go to ur bank each session, you have to fill out a randomized thingee, like when jagex added the fatigue thingee to rsc in an attempt to stop hacking (AR) [i'm sorry for referring to it as "thingee" but thats all i can come up with] . This was extremely successful for a while. The pass comes from jagex itself so a program would fail, and is randomized so people cant guess. :?
