A great idea for a new update would be:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Weapons

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

katana, o-katana (sword, 2h), naginata (spear), vajra (type of mace), nunchaku (ala Abysall Whip), shuriken (throwing star), war fan, doublesword (think a hally with a blade on each end), etc

From China:

Cho-Ku-No (crossbow with magazine of arrows), New Arrows, Rockets (ala Multicannon), etc.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

New Armor

----------------------------------------------------------------------

From Japan:

Kabuto (helm + mask), Samurai armor (half plate, half leather), Ninja Uniforms (higher Agility makes u hard to hit instead of higher Defence), sandals, etc.

Silk Garments (mage robes with high stab and slash, weak crush defence ), Armored Gauntlets (extra armor for meleers), etc.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Quests:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Join one of 3 factions vying for power in Japan (imperial, criminal, merchant)

Imperial = uphold the laws, bust crime rings, combat the criminal element

criminal = assasinate, poison, gain money from illegal street fighting, lay traps for the authorities

Merchant = protect caravans, blackmail, mercenaries

--------------------------------------------------------------------

New Features

------------------------------------------------------------------

New ways to level agility that don't bite (Ninja)

Earn Prestige with diffferent factions

Use Sea Craft to turn the tide of Battle, become a Pirate, or reach new fishing spots

New Foods (curry, sushi, calamari to name a few)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

IT WOULD REVOLUTIONIZE THE GAME

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

What Say You? Why settle for a "Dragon Ninja Sword" when you can have the whole kit and kaboodle?

....................................my god you are going to get so badly flamed I feel sorry for you

althoug I like the idea of traveling shops its a bit impractical

I think boats are comming in about maybe a year...would need to add ALOT of extra space and have the ability to go all the way around it though. also they would need a feasible excuse as to why the world would grow as opposed to new lands discoverd past the border.

also I enjoy the faction idea...but not with japan. and private contractors arent a specific faction in any culture they meerly work for whoever pays bet at the time. For example they will get paid 3 Million to protect a leader one day and then a week later get paid 5 Million to kill the same person they protcted.

Fair enough. I guess I am a bit sick of all this European Medieval Warfare theme. As to the "expanding world" bit, didn't the same thing happen 16th century Europe? Suddenly everyone was sending expeditions for the Indies, etc. Seems like a good excuse to me "So-and So discovered this place, everyone wants to trade with them, and thus the exploration of the Runescape world bloomed." I threw in the whol merchant faction bit because of there being 3 gods (evil good nuetral), so one faction would be for each standing.

Don't worry about the flaming thats about to happen, i expected this, especially since I have few posts. I have thick skin.

I don't see why you would get flamed. The only people that would would be those ones who are closed minded. This idea is pretty good, but you could put a little more detail to it.

Sup noobs.

I like it very much. The ability of using agility to beat your opponent has also caught my interest. I've always thought, "If this were in real life I could jump out of his way or trip him." But then again, I can't really take on the NPCs in real life lol. I have also always wanted seamanship, too, yarr, I wish to be a pirate. RS does need to introduce some oriental themes, maybe this could bring about face designs (for when your charry talks to a NPC) that could have oriental eyes and the ability to wear kabuki makeup (I believe that's what it's called). I like it, and I've always thought that silk should be made to make clothes, it's not too useful, other than taking poison off of your weapon, but who wants to do that anyway?

Take notes Crim.

An interesting point to note is the man in Port Phasmatys (in the Ghost Ahoy quest) is from the "Eastern Lands" and looks distinctly oriental. I wouldn't rule out the possibility just yet.

i like the idea, but I think that's a ton of programming to do on a java game .

First off I'm VERY suprised this is the first post that has brought up the introduction of oreintal culture and not been severly flamed, which is excellent.

yes well I think the ninja cothing is similar to the rouges armour which totaled together weigh 5kg.

And also it woul introduce a stealth skill which has already been discussed and is agreed to be a very good idea.

and if this was created then I could see a nija wardrobe coming into the game, it would add to agility and to stealth.

this would take a good amount of time for jagex to plan out and implement into the game.

Hmm I generally like the idea...Maybe a quest from certain seamen could be implemented to give a reason to discover these new lands? A form of unarmed combat would be very nice indeed, it's stupid that a player in full armor can move just as fast as an unarmed man(I know runescape is not realistic but still.....), it'd be hilarious if a unarmed player beat the living daylights out of an armored PKer in the wilderness  . I like the idea the only problem is how to implement this into runescape....but let's just leave that to JAGeX

horses arent native to china or even in china and elephants have probably never been near china so that wouldnt be the best place to introduce them

This is a good idea although it would totally make RuneScape a totally different game. If JaGeX accepts this idea I will definatly be surprised because RuneScape is a fantasy world and so far I can't really see it changing from that way.

Indeed; he might well be the place to implement such ideas. Quest start point anyone?

I could definetely see some quest starts from the various ports (each one has a different quest that opens up a small area/island?). That way the different places could be distinct and unique and not all of the same boring thing (points at lumbridge castle and varrock castle).

I realize that horses do not originate from China. But we all know that European horsemanship is pretty lame :). I guess I've been playing too much dynasty warriors recently...I'll let the horse thing go.

I just would like to say thanks for not running me out of the forum. I understand it would take alot of work for jagex to do some of these things, but wouldn't this draw in a (gasp) larger crowd of people? Maybe.

:?

I am also asking if anyone knows of more Chinese weapons/armor/technology to be added, I've done alot of reading on Samurai warfare but am completely ignorant about the Chinese side. Any help or criticism would be greatly appreciated.
