^It is already dead right now, smithing is not profitable as there are tons of better things to do. It cannot be more dead by trying to make it live.

And how is this making it alive? (except for ironmen) Or is this only a rejuvenation for ironmen?

Once smithing is crunched down, this opens up the other levels for devs to expand upon as needed. The crunch in itself would not save smithing, but would stabilize the skill so that it can be made useful quite easily as updates are made.

I don't think rune ore production is supply limited. That would mean most of the rocks are camped out and emptied. Perhaps on f2p, but not in p2p. The mining requirement of 85 is also really keeps a lot of people off the rocks; most accounts would have far better moneymaking methods by the time their stats are at a point where they have 85 mining. Bringing down the level requirement to 50 would definitely encourage lower levelled accounts with far fewer moneymaking options to seek out runite.

When you randomly happen to walk by a rune rock in the course of your adventuring, how often is there ore in it, ready to be mined? In my experience, it's a small fraction of the time, well under a quarter.

I guess it depends on which rune rocks you pass, the ones in elf city are gone a lot but when doing clues on neitz and jatz I don't think that rune rock has ever been mined.

  3. I'm kind of interested how everyone fell into the mentality that raids was horribly broken before its release.

Honestly, I'm not too sold on the idea that runescape even needed raids or that they're a good idea. So, even if they work perfectly they may still suck. We'll see how it goes though, low expectations for this may mean I'll enjoy it more than I did the World Event where although the islands were relatively creative I had expected so much more and that killed it for me.

  4. Wouldn't Eastern Lands been a better merge point for this concept? Each island could unlock a raid? So many people want to go to other places and I just want them to finish Gielinor first.

I'd rather test it out on some land that doesn't matter first. If Mazcab sucks, we can ignore it and forget about it. No one knew about Mazcab till they created it specifically for raids, and while people will be disappointed if Raids suck, they won't be disappointed that Mazcab didn't live up to its potential. Compare this to Fossil Island, Eastern Lands, Abbinah, Teragard, etc. Places that people really want to visit. If they created Raids there and the Raids sucked then the potential for those places was pretty much ruined and it ain't coming back. Better to start with a blank slate with few expectations, if it works out then afterwords maybe Jagex can do Raids elsewhere, if not they can either try to fix Raids by further exploring Mazcab or ditch them and go back to normal design for the places that people really want to see.

Hard to adjust rune's mining and smithing req down without disturbing the associated alch price and the thousands of drop tables it's on. Don't adjust the alch price, inflation inbound. Adjust the alch price down, have to fiddle with a ton of tables.

What they could do is have the smithing levels remain as they are for making the rune weapons/armour (at 85+), but allow you to make modifications to rune armour from 50+ smithing (e.g. augmentation, masterwork etc). Would be a bit silly but avoids the alch value issue completely.

Tbf they could scale rune down to 50 without messing with the alchs/drop tables etc too much if they did a direct swap.

IE Rune would go down to the 50s and its alch price would follow suit, along with this they would of course need to add in more rune rocks to make the mining more sustainable.

But what you do is slip in a new metal at the very top end - probably used for modifying armours rather than a whole new tier - and replace the existing rune rocks and rune on drop tables with this stuff.

That way only major impact area to look at would be rune dragon bar drop rates.

Honestly I'm not sure they need to do anything except bring Rune and other ores down. There is already so much rune coming in during Trahaearn Voice of Seren that I'm not sure the new players wouldd have any effect on it. So drop Rune down, keep the alch price, keep the exp rates, keep the spawn rates, keep the current number of rocks. Currently what is keeping Rune prices up is the alch price of rune stuff, so just keep it. Later, when it fits with an update they can bring out new ores for the higher tiers.

  6. So far we know...

    When someone touches the stone:

    - Part of the person is imprinted on the stone.

    - Imprinting allows the dragonkin to know who touched it.

    - Imprinting gives off residual energy

    When someone uses the stone:

    - The person forfiets their soul.

    - The person ascends to godhood.

    - The dragonkin are driven mad with pain and enraged.

    - The dragonkin are empowered to a degree dependant on the ammount syphoned from the stone.

    The elder mirror:

    - The elder mirror can be used to syphon back the stones energy from the gods, but has an adverse effect on the dragonkin.

    - Using the mirror is like a tug of war which means stronger gods may require more than a couple dragonkin using the mirror.

I actually think the "Elder Mirror" part seemed to apply to any elder artifact. They mentioned that they only used the mirror because it was handy and that others would work.

  7. Bet your bottom dollar no one's going to vote for a quest that requires 90 divination :(

The game is getting pretty high levelled now, and higher quest reqs means theoretically better rewards. I figure its worth a shot. If it wins we can bump up quest reqs by player mandate, and if it loses well at least I tried.

  8. Well, June Runelabs is over and my Faction Mobs idea made poll so here's hoping it wins the upcoming poll.

July runelabs is a quest. For this one I wanted to explore what happened to Kaigi. She's a naragi (Guthix's race) whose journal pages are dropped when killing airut. Last known she and a group were trying to escape the destuction of her homeworld through a portal on Guthix's back. Please read it over and support if you like it. https://[LikelyScam]/m=player-proposal/a=13/c=2I4zrwJHI4I/view-idea?idea=39216

Does anyone have a transcript for V's book of the gods?

    [hide]

    Chapter 1

Soon I will return to my homeland. From what I have learned it is more than in need of my guidance. The god wars have begun again and Guthix has fallen. Much as i respect him I now can see that his passive stance has brought nothing but corruption and collapse. I should have returned sooner and persuaded him to turn his powers to heroic endeavour, but I will not be an oathbreaker, not even for that.

From what i can see from this distance it appears that my world and people face dire threats. Not only has that sanctimonious preacher Saradomin appeared, but some upstart called Sliske has goaded the gods into some sort of grotesque display of force. In addition I can tell a perfect jewel like Gielinor will soon draw the attention of outsiders. That brutal monster, Tuska, will not ignore this prize for long. Nor will the Queen of Ashes waste time recruiting the downtrodden to her infernal cause. I can even feel the tendrils of Xau-Tak have already taken root somewhere on the world. All of these taints will need to be cleansed away!

Before I begin I must set forth my plan for how to defend my people, and the people of the world

    Chapter 2

Firstly I will need to work on the quality of the mortals available. Even the Fremennik have become indolent and lazy compared to the heroes of old. A return to the old way, coupled with a harsh training regime will soon put a stop to this. The Moon Clan will need to switch from contemplation to warrior magics, as well. I feel confident that many of them will become competent warrior-mages as a result.

Recruitment will not be too much of a  problem. I will first start with the goblin races. My personal strength coupled with a mercy they are not used to experiencing will win me many converts. The ogres and trolls may take more work, but I can steer this world's heroes towards eliminating any competition.

As the god wars continue it will not be too hard to find further material for building my army. The dispossessed and vengeful can make a good addition to my forces.

    Chapter 3

I will also need to form a coalition of lesser gods to oppose the bigger players in this game. This has worked on multiple occasions before and will serve me well again. As the higher-tier gods tear themselves apart they will leave chances to strike. I and my companions will take these chances.

To bring these other gods on my side I will need to employ trickery and statesmanship. Pulling the forces of a larger god into conflict with the reluctant will provide them little opportunity to refuse joining forces with me. By leading from the front I will secure their friendship and trust.

With these two weapons at my disposal I should be able to enact a more fitting version of Guthix's plan. The gods will be swept from the world, sadly including my allies. I will of course need to fake my death at the hands of the last to be destroyed, but my 'death' will fuel my final victory. I will of course need to think of a new version of the 'carry on my legacy, my people' speech.

    Chapter 4

With luck this will leave behind a world free from gods, filled with heroes unbound by the decadence of the present civilization. This wil leave me free to journey elsewhere before my wanderlust becomes too great. Much as I would like to install myself as a permenant resident of my homeworld, this would both go against the spirit of Guthix's ideals and leave many good deeds undone.

By faking my own death I will be free of further requests for aid, other than the most desperate pleas. Returning in a blaze of glory like a risen phoenix appeals to my sense of the dramatic. If I act swiftly enough I may even be able to head off to check the advances of the outer gods.

    [/hide]

hm. that's actually kind of close to what i was planning, but i guess now that he's dead for real (it would be difficult for him to fake the events of the quest and none of it really served the purpose he had in mind unless it was specifically to drive you to take down his stalker), i'll continue working with what i was doing before

let's be real, the only way the issue would be resolved with a similar end result would still require a degree of manipulation, since most of the sides are too swept up in their own goals to actually look at the larger picture, except big z, except he's so big picture he can't even get anything done without unnecessary collateral damage. it would have have been significantly easier with v's help, though. some of the godless might have even accidentally helped him without knowing the degree to which he would be plotting.

the only major downside to this plan is that the higher tier gods have a tendency to cause damage to the planet when they explode, but there might be a way to mitigate that. the other thing that i would note is that when you think back to when he's mentioned that he has met many other hero gods, you have to wonder if he ended up getting them all killed.

I'm not so sure it would be difficult to fake. If anything the quests seems to point to a very easy way to fake it. The mirror was duplicating a bunch of things on that island. If he was duplicated its possible that either he or the duplicate was killed while the other remains. The fact that he has experience faking his own death means he could have decided very quickly to take advantage of this. Is it likely, idk, but its possible

    • Players who are unable to take part in Tears of Guthix as they are within 100k of maximum XP and have maximum quest points can now tick off the requirement for the Distracted title after telling Juna a story.

Was this necessary? :P I am not seeing the point in playing ToG when you have near max XP, it is not like it is a real fun minigame. At least we cannot say they won't look at minorities :P 20 people can now play ToG again ;)

The point isn't that they can play the game. The point is that "The Distracted" title requires you to play a game in order to unlock it. So those players were unable to unlock the Distracted title.

Limited Time Only – Replay Myreque Quests in Beta

    Hello

For a limited time only we are allowing you to replay the Myreque Quests on the Beta world. To do this, speak to Amelia and Rory in Burgh de Rott. You will have the option to choose how far back in the quest chain you would like to reset it to. As far back as In Search of the Myreque.

This is limited time only as it will be available as long as the current Beta lasts. This is not a feature that will be added to the main game.

    FAQ

    Q: Why the Myreque Quests?

If you didn’t already know, the next quest in the series will be coming out later this year. Therefore we are giving you the chance to replay the quests beforehand.

Q: Why won’t this be made available in the main game?

Most of the work to reset these quests was done as part of the skill resets projects last year. However it completely resets everything, which means losing progress in Temple Trekking, etc. This type of quest reset is not something we want to add to the game. Therefore we are limiting it to the Beta world. The work required to develop a more desired quest reset would be a lot and at this time we do not think the work would be worthwhile. If however it becomes very popular, we will think more seriously about quest resets in the future.

Q: How long is ‘limited time’?

We don’t actually know right now. We do know we have some other plans for the Beta world later this year, which means we can’t keep this up forever. So if this interests you, best taking a look sooner rather than later!

  12. Honestly another set of questions should be answered sometime soon:

Q: Does our experience after level 80 roll over into the "elite skill" or do we need to have flipped a switch prior to hitting level 80?

Q: Will these elite skills only receive xp from items broken down that are relative to that skill?

(probably and most likely a yes)

Basically, think of Inventor as a completely new skill that unlocks once you reach level 80 in those 3 skills. Since its a new skill, its exp is entirely unrelated to the exp in other skills. So, the exp doesn't roll over, but training regular Smithing won't get you exp in Inventor anyway, and training inventor probably won't get you regular smithing exp.

  13. The way I see it, smithing can be easily reworked into something better than it is if they go by the basis of "easy to pick up, hard to master"

Think of it this way... In the medieval times, you would need to know something about smithing.

1-15, you unlock all bronze smithing

    15-25, iron

    15-30, steel

    30-45, mithril

    45-65, addy

    65-85, runite

Then by the time you are able to make T50 armor, or better said, the best modern manufactured armor of the era, you are able to reforge dragon, improve barrows, make other things, ect.

Condense the lower tiers of smithing to make more sense to open up the higher ranks for higher things.

I just feel like so many people already have the exp for 120 smithing, I don't see why there's anything they can do with 120 thats they can't do with a rework and 99. So, for many the new levels wouldn't really help at all. It would be better to rework it to stay within 99, and use elite skills for any majorly new stuff.
