  1. and i feel like a fogie going.. "nope, ive been at university"

University bah! Whippersnappers these days... when I was your age I had to get up before I went to bed and walk twelve miles through the snow and searing heat - uphill both ways - to get to university, only they didn't have universities back then, just a box. A cardboard box!!! Anyway, I had an onion tied to my belt, as was the fashion at the time...

    :)

  2. Second, of course updates may have taken many weeks from the idea to the reality, but they were still putting updates out weekly, and some of them more weak than others. So what were they doing during the weak ones? POH? Carpentry? I don't see it...

As you said yourself... just because an update is released approximately weekly doesn't mean that each update only takes one week to complete.

Further to that... Just because an update doesn't appear to contain a lot of functionality - or was 'weak' in your estimation - doesn't mean it wasn't difficult and time-consuming to accomplish, or that other concerns may have taken time away from that project for a while.

  3. Ok so I can't find the staff list anymore, but I know for a fact that back in CLASSIC Jagex already had at least 10 people working for them (remember the staff paintball pic anyone?). So with the exponential increase of revenue from rs2, on top of rs2's engine being way more flexible and easy to work with, I find that 1 update per week is not only a little skimpy, its downright slack. Do you honestly think that 10 people worked 8 hours a day for a week to bring you frickin' RAT PITS?! They DON'T work that hard. It would be clear that if they could make a huge update in a week such as barrows or farming or any other big update, then they are slacking off by releasing these dinky updates like Rat Pits.

So basically what I'm saying is they can't possibly work very hard all the time over at Jagex, although who knows, maybe they released rat pits cause they were working on carpentry? Who knows, who cares, it's going to be useless anyway.

And you're a software developer are you? You know how much work is involved in designing, scoping, developing, testing and releasing major functionality changes to software used by hundreds of thousands of people do you?

And before you ask... yes I am and yes I do. And, from what I've seen, Jagex work very hard indeed to bring out the updates they do. So either quit whining, or grab a textbook and learn how to do it better.

  4. I would be massively surprised if runescape don't have control over the ads on their site - it's not as if they're hosted on someone else's server or something.

They are most certainly hosted externally from the runescape site. Generally when you agree to host advertisements you only agree to display the ads, not pay for the hosting of them as well.

And the people who put advertisements on the site should have a good idea of the people who play too. With rs' size i'd imagine ads are quite expensive, and whe you're paying a fair bit of money for adverts you want to make sure you're not wasting it.

Contrary to popular belief, runescape is not only for people in the 8 to 13 age bracket. There are people of all ages playing, hence it is appropriate for advertisements to be targeted to all demographics.

Fortunately i'm a member so i don't get annoyed by the ads. When i wasn't a member, i used software that blocks banner ads, so i can't really comment on the ads on the site.

    Me too, long live adblock.

  5. If you continue to insist that they're "you're" rocks I will take them from you just because. On the other hand, if you share nicely then I'll share equally nicely.

Acting like an idiot and being rude before I've done more than walk up to the mining area constitutes open season on me bugging you as much as I possibly can.

Heh... I spent about half an hour doing this to one person who insisted they were "his" rocks.

  6. 1) When making nats using the general store method, do not steal other people's essence, it is extremly anoying and can ruin peoples systems

Nope... If you sell something to a general store then it becomes fair game for anyone else to buy. You can't expect the general store to function as your own personal mini-bank.

    3) When asked about levels, dont lie about what yours really are, because people just find out, and you end up looking stupid.

I agree with the other poster, don't go around asking other people what their levels are - use the hiscores table. More often than not, the person doing the asking doesn't give a rat's what the other person's level is and is just looking for an excuse to brag about their own. I make it a point to respond with an absurdly low number.

  7. My only question for the 'older' people playing (say 23+) is why do they play?

For the same reasons you do... because games are fun.

This has always been a lingering pet peeve of mine. Adults can get on here whenever they want, for however long they want, it makes it extremely unfair for the "youth" to have any fighting chance against them....its just really, really unfair.

Aw diddums... life is unfair, get used to it. And no, we can't just get on and play whenever we like. We have jobs to go to, families to feed, houses to maintain, kids to run around after and bills to be paid. After all that, I might be able to squeeze in an hour or two of gaming before bed. Unlike kids who can get on here whenever they want for however long they want ;)

  8. I'm another oldie... thirty next month.

Been playing computer games for longer than a lot of runescapers have been alive - over two decades since I got my first C64 - with external tape drive (sweeeet).

  9. In fact, I remember having the Shilo Gem rocks all to myself on World 2 one time. It was almost constant mining and crafting of gems, that was. Mayhaps I'll post those gem rock respawns.

I often look for a moderate to crowded world to mine gems. Everyone else is always worldhopping the deserted ones.

  10. So busier is better?

    Who woulda thunka that.

Not neccessarily. Busier had faster respawn times... but more people competing for the same resource. For things with naturally low resource times then less populated would be better (iron)... but for stuff that takes a while, finding somewhere private on a very busy world would be useful.
