Better dig out some protective headgear: the zombie pirates are back, and hungrier than ever for grey matter! Robbing innocent monks of their piece(s) of mind, crashing ships into their harmonious island monastery and generally raining on their pious parade - these scurvy dogs have set up a literal 'chop shop' in the once hallowed halls. Are there no depths to which they will not stoop? If you want to help out the cranially-challenged clergy and claim the reward for shifting the sort of headaches that even a willow bark infusion cannot remove, then speak to Brother Tranquility on Mos le'Harmless for details. New rewards - from craftable felines to the most nautical weapon in the game - await those players with the skill and know-how to foil the Great Brain Robbery!

In the basement of the Tower of Life, players were finding they could steal other people's frogeels from combat. This has now been fixed.

6 March 2007 - The Feldip Hills are alive with the sound of muuuusic

We've just finished an enormous update to our music system to make the harps and bells of RuneScape's music all the sweeter.

Firstly, we've changed the underlying technology used to play the music. We've completely rewritten the music player from scratch, so it now uses a bank of instruments built into the game itself rather than using whatever your soundcard happens to have. This has the advantage that the music sounds the same regardless of your computer, rather than varying from machine to machine. This in turn allows us to fine-tune the music exactly, instead of having to try to get something which generally works. Our new music technology should also be more compatible, meaning the music works correctly on more operating systems and soundcards than before!

Secondly, we've gone through every single song in the game, (a huge undertaking: there are nearly 500 songs), and hand-tuned each one to sound optimal with our new instrument set! As a result, many of the songs are sounding better than ever before, and you can finally hear them as we intended them to sound.

You may also notice the shiny new button on the log-in page. This lets you turn off the log-in music to preserve your speakers while you pop off to get a snack or take a break, all without interfering with your music settings in-game.

So, if you've been put off listening to the music for one reason or another, now's the time to turn it on and enjoy the ambient delights!

We're still planning some more tweaks to the system to improve your auditory experience, so keep checking the front page for news.

In addition to the big soundbank update today, we've added 'equip sounds' to armour and weapons

  2. I totaly disagree with u.

I think Jagex puts a lot of their energies on planning and designing the game updates. This game can be easly ruined by some unthoughtful feature.

Jagex needs to keep the crowd quite by providing them their weekly-update dose but they also try hard to still be loyal to there overall vision of the game.

Remember thats it is very hard to "re-invinte the wheel" on a weekly base I think that Jagex innovative resources are not drain yet....

Quests -Mini games: some examples of the "worthless items that taking bank space":

    - keris dagger. worthless? dont think so

    - Salve ammy(e) - love it

    - Fremennik helm - dont take it off.

Hunter? remember the whinings about farming? Dont worry,Jagex will make it worthwhile in the future..

  3. My motto has always been: if it doesn't have stats it doesnt exists..

But like in rl - they are peeps out there who are possessed with status symbols (self-esteem problems etc..).

Items in RS can be judged for what you get from alching them...enough said :P

Not entirly true, some of the TT items does worth more then they Hi-alch for (BTW what the 3rd age kites Hi-Alch for,any1 know ? :D )

  4.

First up in March comes an exciting update to the way that the in-game music works. Soon, you'll all be able to hear the melodic strains of 'All's Fairy in Love and War', 'Romancing the Crone' and all the other songs exactly as the musicians intended, as well as toggling the log-in screen's music. This will also improve compatibility, so the music should work on many more systems once this is released.

The monks of Harmony Island have recently lost their piece of mind, as those dastardly pirates of not-really-alive persuasion attempt to take over their island. Brother Tranquility has managed to get away, though, and will be looking for help. You'll need to be ready for knockout gas and a boat-load of dodgy doctors, but who could refuse to help the monks victimised in the Great Brain Robbery? As always, those pesky pirates are bound to throw a holy spanner into the works, so be prepared to fight off some nasties and wield a new maul-esque weapon with its own special attack! Yarrr! Avast! The quest itself will also feature a brand new island with some really fantastic new pirates and animationsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ arrrr, that it will be.

Followers of the Morytanian struggle will notice a new route opening up in March. The Temple Trekking service, in which you escort desperate NPCs to the relative safety of Paterdomus, will be expanding to include a return journey. This means that you will be able to escort folk back and forth across the fetid vampire-infested lands, picking up your rewards from the Burgh de Rott bank. New routes also mean new perils and new dangers, especially regarding the 'nail beast', who will no doubt be of interest to our potion-making community.

The cave goblins that you've helped out so much in the past are ready to return the favour this month, as the Council is finally going to open the gates wide. Dorgesh-Kaan is a remarkable city filled with all the technology of the Dorgeshuun... and a new Agility course with sizeable rewards for the highly agile. Of course, Dorgesh-Kaan is a fully-fledged city, so there will be much more to it: from a marketplace to sell your intriguing surface food, to a Dorgeshuun inventor experimenting with Magic for the first time, and much more besides. There's even a new Slayer spot just beyond the city, where a strange beast lives - it's a cross between a mole and a basilisk, and a weird-looking beastie it is, too.

A few of the more domestic animals get their makeovers this month, with a few tweaks to make them more attractive to the farmers that look at them every day. Cows, chickens and rabbits may not be the most impressive of creatures, nor the most majestic, but they lie at the core of any farmer's stomach.

Finally, you'll have the opportunity to look into the dark heart of old Varrock, digging holes into ancient caverns best left undisturbed. What Lies Below the city? What foul plots are afoot? Do you have what it takes to join the Varrock Palace Secret Guard? Don't expect a simple story in this quest, for the conspiracies and plans of wicked men are rarely transparent... though there will be Runecrafting rewards for anyone that can translate them.

As you know, we are committed to redesigning anything that needs improving, and this isnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t restricted to the graphics alone. As such, this month we will bring you the newly improved Fishing Trawler. Players familiar with this content may have noted that the fishing nets didnÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t necessarily catch that many fish. Well, Murphy has been working on a far more efficient way of doing things and he tells us that the rewards will increase dramatically once he's had a chance to fit the new netsÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ so youÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ll be certain to see more sea turtles and manta rays gracing your local firepit.

Not only have we been beavering away behind the scenes to bring you more letters, pictures and QuestHelps, but we have also been tweaking the way the polls work. Player feedback is very important to us and although we do spend time reading the forums, you canÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢t all post at the same timeÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâæ but in a poll, you can! Members: please make sure you fill in the polls. ItÃÆââââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢s your chance to let us know what you want!

  5. It's people like you that get people like me black marks/banned (not that I have been unlucky enough to get a black mark so far) for not wanting to reply to some silly questions or requests. Why can't a person have his public chat off if he wants to without getting multiple "omg, a autoer" reports?

    ....

I disagree with ur attitude man, no need to flame over some1 who is clearly not the most expreienced player around.

But basicly ur right. The fact that u can get reported just because u dont feel like talking is somewhat frustrating

  6.

    now do this :

type in the search by rank option first 8000 you will notice something around

3,26m exp yes thats lvl 85

now type in rank 5000 you will notice something around

3,52m exp and yes again thats lvl 85

thats 260k exp to gain 3k ranks

and to get from 80-85 you only gain a little more then 3k ranks although the exp is several times bigger :P it's crazy :o

now go a little further type in 4000

you'll notice lvl 86 with around 3,8m exp

    type 3000

    lvl 87 with 4,3m exp

    type 2000

    ........

Already done it :D ,yea u can reach some intresting findings only by observing the High scores...

  7.

20-25k exp per weekday isn't "like a maniac," neither is 40k exp on a weekend day. The guys who hit it like maniacs are doing much more than that Oo

    20k slayer xp = ~190 Gargoyles = ~190 Nechryaels= ~190 Kurask = ~220 Aberrants = ~ 180 fire giants = ........and on and on

No matter what combat lvl u have these are long tasks

Now, if i was a kid with the luxury of playing 5-6 hours a day then,ye, that wouldnt consider intensive but for some1 who can afford playing 1.5 hours max a day thats pretty much sums up my daily rs experience.

    1. Every skill has a cut-off right after a level.

    2. The difference between slaying and every other skill under the sun is that you don't get exp through accessing its rewards. Examples? You need 85 mining to mine rune. However, when you mine rune, you still get exp. When you cut magics, you still get exp. Craft glories or bhides? Still get exp. So the deferential is somewhat larger than slaying, in which you only get exp by taking tasks.

And honestly, 85 slaying isn't good money. I wouldn't encourage anybody get it for that.

The hidden statement (well, not that hidden :D ) in what i wrote is that i find most of the other skills darn boring (wc,fleching, fishing, dam fishing :wall: )

I am not playing for the money or glory,i play for fun, i realy dont care how profitable it is.

And yea,i am still addicted to this tiny second ,between the time u kill the monster till u see the drop :D

  8. Hell hounds - no drops

    Black demons - too long

    Irons and Steels - same

Zygo - waste of food for lousy drops

why do u people hate Turoth/Kurask?

gr8 range XP and nice drops, especiely if ur into herblore/farming

abberants are also gr8 if ur not cheap on p pots(anyway u get ur raneers back) and take ur salve ammy with ya.

  9. *warning - (relatively)long reading*

On friday, after a long and exhausting journey which sucked out all my life-force, ruined my health, made me quit rs for 4 months and left me squeezed and wrinkled like (sry for the rude metaphor) a used condom, i finnaly reached the lvl 85 slayer .

Not many of you aware but peoples are (still) racing like maniacs for this goal,20-25k xp per week-day and 40k xp a day in weekends. I know because this was the amount of xp i had to do inorder to maintain my ~8700 position.

Anyway,on friday, after the 85 fireworks i slayered 20 more fire giants to complete my task and logged off.As usuall,i check the highscore and...suddenly i am ranked 7700(!!!), 1k jump after only 2k more xp !!! .

Well, at this point u must be saying.."o well..isnt that obvious, if i had slayer 85 i would park my car outside the slayer tower/ALR and never get out..".

Axe Man Jack in his Guide to Becoming a Master Slayer, already referred to the fact that most of the people stop slayering once they reach the 85 goal but i wasnt aware how big this phenomena is.

It appears that the moment people receive the long awaited 85 message they start treating slayer like it was a terminal disease and avoid going to Shilo village only because they dont want to be seen by Duradel :shame:

For me slayer has became much more then another skill, it's,as Seinfeld once said (about something completly different),"part of our life style".

Quests?mini-games?other skills?those are simply a nice little refreshments, interludes between tasks to keep our sanity.

Sure,i am going to slow things down a bit , maybe do only 3-4 tasks a week but that is it. Next stop - 90.

  10. Let's face it:

    - granite legs are worth more

    - they are a lÃÆÃâÃâót more common than whips

    - wyverns need ONLY level 72 slayer, abyssals 85. 85 SHOULD be a better money maker, now try and deny that.

How much are granite legs these days ?????? 5 months back they were like 200-300k (i was on a 4 months break so..)

But generaly, the quility of abyssals drops is better and their kill-per-hour rate is much higher so...lets see you deny that :D

  11.

    you think 400 is bad, i spent 500 pray pots killing 80 wyvs ea day, not one granite legs has been dropped. skele wyvs are terrible money makers, supplies cost too much, they hit very frequently. get 85 slayer, its much better, believe me. =;

You don't even have it so don't even try to say it's a better money maker. 85 slayer means you gotta cope with 1 whip per 1000 demons if you're lucky. So don't even tell us no legs in 500 is bad. This really pisses me off, people who think they know but don't know a damn about it.

lets not get too pissed over nothing....

1 thing for sure, wyvs are much harder to kill and yes, they are not the most profitable slayer-monster around.

  12. First, fire giants are not the ideal subject for testing ur deffence since these guys hits hard no matter what u do/wear/drink

Second, use pots(super-sets), and dont wait till they completly drain to take the next dose.

Third, Just to prove this is all in ur mind,go to the fire giants in the metal-dragon dungeon, switch worlds till u see a high level player there (lvl 110+). Start slayering side by side with him and count the kills over 30 min,( if he tells u "switch worlds u noob" just tell him ur on experiment here and he will understand and wont bother u :D. )

I am sure the differences wont be dramatic...
