Red Nelly Ruggeiro ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ãâ¹ÃâRed̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Å¾Ã¢ Nelly was born in Italy in 1796 and moved to England in 1799 to receive his education. Ruggeiro was brought up as a Christian and was baptised at the age of 10 in the River Ravensbourne. At the age of 12 he could no longer continue his education as his family was becoming poorer. His father soon died and he was left to look after his mother and 2 siblings. His family became poverty-stricken and he was forced to steal bread just to feed his family. At the age of 14 Ruggeiro Nelly stood trial on petty theft and highway robbery, he was faced with a death sentence but chose to be transported instead.
