  1. Because whining gets you no where in life. It's a lesson taught later in life, but jagex and it's investors are making attempts to curtail the whining. There are things worth fighting for in life and a companies personal investments shouldn't be on the gamers main discussion as far as fighting for what's right for the game.

companies are not people and deserve every bit of criticism they get. Blocking criticism just proves how much more you need it and how much less you should be trusted.

  2. how dare you crybaby plebs actually have opinions that differ from what youre told to think. back in my day we guzzled down everything we were told and never complained and still never do. you entitled brats need to just shut up so the next time I can call you lazy for not sticking to your guns and seeing anything through while this time I'll chastise you for not creating a completely original solution to a completely unoriginal problem. stupid freaking kids...

  3. Considering I can't test the beta (stupid Jagex), I have to ask this: is DPS really balanced now between the three combat classes?

there is no balance at all. its an absolute mess and quadruplely so in PvE. The only attacks that do any appreciable damage are ones that damage a % of the targets max LP but anything worth a damn has a cap on how much damage it can take, so you just spam unload and frenzy as they hit the cap multiple times.

All the ideas put in seem to be working in opposition to each other, like whats the point of better armour giving better lp boosts if the only real damage is coming from these stupid % based attacks, which causes you to take more damage in absolute terms and so making you need more food to heal? The same is true with weapons, since all the damage is coming from the % attacks and abilities are always the same speed, weapon speed and power are irrelevant so the only weapon stat that matters is hit rating.

I hope they werent actually planning to release it this year, as if this gets released even remotely resembling this mess then I really do see myself leaving and never coming back.

  4. Well yea but colour scheming should also be enough to signal the elements without having to completely bugger up the theme. white/grey for air and smoke, blue for ice and water, red for fire and blood, brown/black for earth and shadow.

Changed names are also just going to cause unneccessary disconnects and headscratching if they keep the effects on the spells. Poisoning from a smoke spell and lower accuracy from being blinded by shadow spells make enough sense not to cause a disconnect. If the effects arent removed or retconned to something else it'll be 'so getting hit by a gale poisons me but getting hit by wind doesnt? What the hell?' or 'getting hit by a lump of rock lowers my attack level if the spell is called rock but not if its called earth? okay......'.

If theyre going to destroy the whole theme of the ancients spellbook and all the dungeons, lore etc attached to turn it into 'standard spells but AOE' they might as well just go the whole 9 yards and just turn them into wind/water/earth/fire barrage instead of this unneccessary halfway mess that creates more problems than it solves.

  5. Just rename shadow to Hades, everyone gets the concept of the 'underworld', keeps the theme but has a more obvious connection to its new elemental affinity. I think its pretty obvious what the elements of the other ancients spells are without having to patronise us with awkward, ugly noun-noun agglutanatives or basically just doubling up on air. Societies were making stories about how smoke = 'bad air', blood = 'fire of life' and shadowy places under the earth thousands of years ago and without contact with each other, so its not like some completely wild flight of fancy without precident, and are the exact things that lead them to assign the classical elements in the way they did anyway.

  6. I see where you are going, but not its honestly not their intentions. In the early video blogs a mod stated they wanted people to be able to perform as different class fighters. They wanted there to be ways where tanking was a viable option not just as a meleer, but as a ranger and mager. They also wanted DPSers to be distinct which they clearly showed with offhand weaponry and duel wielding. I am thinking their next hurdle is possibly making healing an ability to be performed whether it be from summoning or using food on a player outside of dungeoneering. The big change I think that needs to be brought to combat is breaking that healing barrier.

It wasn't supposed to look soo meleecentric as they've shown the same sort of options are going to be availible for all 3 classes. But youre right, though it could have been a useful structure for intra-class fights to build off.

as for the healing thing, all they would have to do is take the rune and magic req off heal other, make it heal a bit more LP than you lose instead of a 1:1 ratio, put a cooldown and small prayer consumption on it then it would actually be useful. Food and potions would still be the source of the LP but the healer will be distributing the LP during combat to prevent KOs, keep people doing their roles and get a bit extra mileage out of the supplies if used properly.

  7. Theyre probably trying to make a triangle within each class as well. 2hander's extra damage and accuracy counters a shield+1h's extra defense and LP while the lack of a shield is less of a detriment as youre only facing a single 1h weapon.

The extra defense and LP of shield+1h will turn the lower per-hit accuracy and damage of dualwield into a drawback and, if jagex are smart an have given a shield only counterattack ability, the extra attacks will provoke more counters (2x75% attacks provoke 2x100% which is an even higher % of dualweilders lower maxLP, pushing the balance in the shielder's favour).

Dualwield capitalises on the 2h's lack of shield with dps and burst, while the 2h's slowness could be exploited by an ability that resets the opponents timer, which would obviously be more devastating to slower weapons.

  8. yay, the cancer has finally entered stage 4.

    I like this analogy.

As someone who recognizes the serious nature of cancer, I don't like the over the top and frankly immature analogies the RuneScape community is prone to making. Why not make a hitler reference while you're at it? "oh man hiding from Jagex's cash shop, now I know how Anne Frank felt."

Sorry officer, I didnt have my approved book of allowed analogies at hand. Thank you for alerting me to how hurting human feelings stops accurate technical descriptions of things from being accurate. The next time someone decides to describe something as a trainwreck I'll be sure to alert them to stop hurting peoples feelings lest what theyre describing might retroactively happen in a completely non-catastrophic way, think of the paradoxes that could result!

  9. ...Is anybody outside of the UK supposed to be able to solve these clues?

i worked just about all of it out with some wikiped use on the names in the clues. though i still cant see anything to do with anything in the last part of the last clue.

  10. If the ISP does the blocking they can. We can't get around ISP's so it's quite easy for them to block anything they want/are told to.

or you can just connect to a proxy that has an ISP that doesnt block the site, eastern europe is good for those, or a ton of other options depending on how brave you are and the disposablilty of the computer.

or you could do that too. Are people really that desperate or am I being thick for assuming people use common sense?

I was simply informing you that your assertions that you cant get around ISPs blocking things or that its easy for them to actually block access are completely wrong. But that usually happens when people act like they are an authority on stuff they dont know anything about.

  12. In other news, the British government made it illegal for water to be wet, if found to be within 100 yards of wet water you will incur an on the spot fine of £300,000 payable directly to Thames water plc (based in Bermuda) .The author of the legislation, Cecil Charladoux (Tory MP for Toffsgate-on-Severn and brother of the CEO of Thames Water plc) also announced further plans to erect a giant concrete dome over the entire country to prevent the distribution of wet water to all the plebian criminals-in-waiting. The work is likely to be 100% taxpayer funded and be commissioned to the construction company Scorched Earth plc (chaired by Rebekah Charladoux, wife of Cecil) after tendering all of the 1 options available.

  13. You know what, if our country was only slightly larger than Maryland, with 2/3rds the population of California, produced less than 1/15th of our total GDP, and was under the boot of a vast global power that forced us to severely limit the possibilities that the government can do I'd agree with you. But you know what, America isn't in a similar situation to Taiwan, at all. Oh, and if you knew anything about Taiwan's politics then you'd know that they have been supporting more progressive governments over the past 30 years, so if you actually were in a government similar to Taiwan's I'm sure you would be raging about how the country is turning socialist.

That's fine. Except you're ignoring how an area with a GNP of $170/person, with no natural resources to speak of, grew into a country with a GNP of about $37,000/person in about 50 years. Socialism didn't get them there, free markets did.

And it had nothing to do with massive amounts of US aid sent in by the US to counter Mainland communist influence, the massive influx of intellectuals escaping the Great Leap Forward, or the fact that the Taiwanese government did massive amounts of planning and greatly supported universal education to shift the workforce away from agriculture and towards technology.

and lets not forget the massive chunk of outsourced manufacturing the inland soaked up........ until recently those corporations started outsourcing from there because the population weren't exploitable and desperate enough. HOW DARE YOU QUESTION THE MAGICAL INVISIBLE HAND OF FREE MARKET!

  14. ... that's why there's little merit in discussing morality in itself. A part of the purpose of this thread is to discuss how others would act in a specific circumstance - and why they believe it's morally righteous to act in said way, which is presumably their objective.

I'd like to pose a question though - what if there were objective, absolute morality? Does that change anything at all?

The whole point of a moral code is the possibility of it being broken and the recommendations it has about what should be done when it is broken, theres no point including stuff about what to do when a rock is murdered if its not possible to murder a rock for example.

you'll need to define what you mean by objective and absolute before anyone can properly address what youre asking.

  15. But she could be half mahjaratt, that would make a difference to how she relates to the others in terms of power and their abilities.

hence what i said about ass-pulling, if you're just going to wave your hand and invalidate all the rules and conventions you've established on a whim why bother to define them in the first place? If your make your vampires burn in sunlight for 3 chapters then you just decide to have them played basket ball at noon with no consequence only for them to be turned to ash a couple chapters later then you need to seriously reconsider whether vampires are the appropiate characters for your fiction.

Similarly if youve got a race of super wizards youve built up as scheming social darwinist cannibals, who will gladly exterminate their own entire race along with the 'lesser' races to just prevent themselves being eaten, then you show these power games have basically bottlenecked them to the edge of extinction as they cant/wont replenish their population/food supply, if you now just give them the ability to just make progeny with creatures they view as cattle in order to crowbar in an answer to a throwaway line that just wrecks the entire premise of the race and all theyre about is just sillly, avoidable and pointless. I just hope im wrong about that being what jagex has done.

  16. If Moia is supposed to be a mahjarrat and goes after Bilrach in heim (he started digging in 1200ish of the 4th age so over a millenium after the godwars ended), khazard is supposed to the the youngest and born at the end of the 3rd age, Zemourgal neglected to document her despite them all being able to sense each other and the whole 'Enakhra is the only female left' thing then theres going to have to be either some huge retconning or ass pulling in order to not have a whole mess of contradictions. but i suppose thats never stopped jagex before so what do i know.

  17. I would have thought the Thatcher stooges/Libertarians would be far too busy brown-nosing the wealthy and each other as they look for problems to create so they can sell snake oil that they wouldn't have any time to play or comment on games. After all they don't have time to reflect on their sociopathy and hypocrisy of lecturing about how people suck and deserve everything bad done to them and shouldnt be allowed to complain because 'entitlement'.

While doing this they of course make it abundantly clear they feel they are entitled to tell everyone else what to do and shouldn't be criticized, have any rules placed on them or suffer any minor inconvenience because 'life's not fair (so lets make it even less so!)' and they've gotten everything without help so everyone (except those who start ahead) should have to too!

If people would just stop feeling entitled then the rugged individualist ubermensch wouldnt have to save you from yourselves, see its all your fault you entitled socialist filth, how dare you make the successful give anything back they obviously deserve everything they get regardless of the means so theyre entitled to everything they can get their hands on regardless the consequences thereof, cant you stupid plebs see your entitlement is what is destroying the world?

  18. I'm assuming you are right and that this is Moia. She seems to be at a past ritual of the mahjarrat which concludes that she has an extended lifespan similar to the mahjarrat which obviously makes her not human either. I think it would be a very good educated guess that this is a flashback to a past ritual of the mahjarrat which will shed some light on billrach's pursuites. I really don't think Jagex's line of sight with the lore would reach as far back as the most recent ritual of the mahjarrat and bring out some kind of lore-breaking content like this.

I am also wondering why jagex seems to be concetrating on a dead mahjarrat, but meh... The bigger picture seems to be the origins of daemonheim, billrach's intent to bring zamorak back into the world and possibly the dragonkins possible involvement with daemonheim.

no need to set the record on conclusions jumped, the ritual site could just be 'neutral' ground they all know about so they can conspire without having to reveal their lairs to the others, and there is nothing to imply they can only go there at the time of the ritual. if its a flash back then Moia doesnt necessarily have to still be alive in the 'present' so any extended lifespan is just speculation (besides how many thousands of people have been frozen for thousands of years and are walking around in game now? theres a whole dungeon devoted to that trope.) as it could be from any of the 1000-ish years bilrach has been mining. also if Moia is Lucien's daughter I expect its in the same way Iban is Zamorak's son and its just what Mahjarrat 'culture' understands of the terms aren't quite the same as ours.

  19. That still sounds like horseshit. Does it incorporate people who don't work a job because they are full-time students or children?

libertarians dont let little things like facts get in the way of the magical invisible hand of the free market, facts are regulations on ideas, regulations are always bad because less freedom therefore facts must be discarded.
