  1. Just why are they so disproportionately expensive in comparison to other F2P tallies? I've seen the market go up close to 4K a pop. The second closest is fire, but usually is no where close to water.

    What's driving up the price?

  2. Give him a break. He put quite a bit of effort into this and earnestly thought it would have helped a lot of people. You've got some solid ideas, and quite frankly, it does offer a good combination of skilling opportunities.

However as mentioned, there are many more ways to gain money in F2P, mainly mining, lob/sword fishing, etc. Also, I personally would prefer to power level each skill individually by mining coal/iron, air crafting on World 16, and playing FoG to raise magic.

I really do like your picture though

As for you bumping, I fully understand your want to bring attention to your topic. I was personally afraid that my F2P Banking Guide would slip away from interest, despite my efforts. (EVERYONE GO THERE NOW AND ADVERTISE IT IN YOUR SIG PLEASE. Lol. But seriously, go now and post. ^_^) Like I mentioned, I understand your effort and I commend you for it and your want for replies.

  3. He's asking HOW to do it once he's in there, not what skills he needs.

I haven't BHed myself (Yet, lvl 99 pray in F2P, you allude me -.- ), but what you could do is go in a couple times with no armour (Or cheap armour and 1 good weapon you can item-protect) and observe how people kill you. Bring some cheap or easy to obtain food to draw it out so you can observe longer as well as perhaps develop some sort of healing/running/armour-switching/crazy awesomenessing technique. Bring some runes or ranging equipment to experiment.

I've done it once because I caught and cooked 1000 salmon and didn't know what to do with them after I realized no one buys them off the GE.

Anyone want to buy 972 cooked salmon?

  4. What's wrong with hybriding (In F2P at least)?

Ranged armour (although I'd probably use mage ammy), R scim, use def, atk, str, lower spells and hold spell?

Otherwise, it all depends on who you're fighting and what level you are. If it's a total noob in FoG, I'll mage regardless ::'

  5. I like the idea of time limiting.

12 hours is way more time than anyone should be playing RS, let alone sit in front of a computer, if not less. Skill bot efficiencies will be cut in half.

I say something around 8-10 hours is good. If you disagree, you're addicted to RS and should find a hobby, perhaps HALO jumping with the SAS or pole-vaulting the Grand Canyon and other chasms ::'

  6. Thanks for the comment moon. Always good to hear support ::'

But I think I should overhaul some of the sections. PinkBullet claimed that he read the guide, yet I still managed to persuade him to cut down his bank in a separate post. Perhaps I should make things more obvious and perhaps give more examples.

I'll be adding a member section soon...as soon as I get more input and more support for this guide.

  7. How did you get it all lined up in that format? I'm guessing some sort of retailer's site :-k

Anyway, SSDs certainly have dropped in price since I last saw them ($1000, about a year ago lol), but yeah, 64 GB isn't much at all. At most, I'd install any games onto this drive and put all of your other files onto a 7200 RPM.

Do you really need $109 speakers?

Are you getting Vista premium? Also, I'd hold off getting x64 since it has some problems with drivers and the such.

    Otherwise, I'm jealous

  8. My Likes: GRAMMAR FTW!

    Good effort, nice pictures, well-structured.

    My Comments and Gripes:

Viruses Anti-Viral Software: Contrary to your guide, viruses, trojans, keyloggers, worms, and the like are all separate forms of malware.

Viruses Malicious software that once executed performs its damage and most of the time replicates itself. Polymorphic viruses mutate and their code constantly changes to avoid detection. Viruses can perform anything a program can do: it can do something as harmless to your computer as open a text file repeatedly saying "ur a noob" (Although it might not be so harmless to your ego  ), to destroying your data and even causing irreversible damage, rendering your hard drive completely useless.

Trojans Like the famed guise in history, a Trojan Horse will make itself to look like a friendly-program, such as a harmless game or a Runescape password hacker (Serves you right for all of you who've tried). Some of them will even play on the fear of viruses and malware of some people and advertise itself as an anti-malware program of sorts (These programs in particular are known as rogueware). Once the poor user unknowingly installs the program, it delivers its payload of malicious code, which can be likened to a virus. Trojans are famed to give remote access to the originator of the trojan, destroy data (like a virus could), disable security software amongst other things.

Keyloggers This group is really quite small and usually is incorrectly passed off under trojan or virus. These programs do as their name states: Log keys. Anything you type is recorded and forwarded back to a host. A keylogger is a common payload of a trojan. They can also be programmed to take screenshots at certain actions (Typing of a website and pressing enter, arrival at a site, etc). They are quite dangerous.

Worms These are one of the most invasive and rampant examples of malware out there. Like a virus, they can do terrible damage. However unlike viruses, they do not need to be executed by the user and instead propagate themselves by simply spreading to all users of a connected network. Remember the MyDoom worm? At its height, one-fifth of all e-mail messages sent across the entire Internet was a product of this worm. Worms typically infect PCs and then perform DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks, where the infected PCs visit a site or server to overload its bandwidth, usually causing it to crash.

You mentioned that trojans can steal passwords and brute force them. It would take an enormous amount of time to brute force a password. A 10 character password would take a computer decades, if not centuries to crack.

While urbestfriend mentioned that he couldn't vouch for Avira, I can largely testify for the sheer awesomenessity of Avira's AntiVir. AVG is total garbage in comparison with AntiVir. AVG was one of the pioneering free anti-virus giants, but has since fallen back in its level of effectiveness. You say that your sister's computer hasn't had a virus in 3 years, but that might not be necessarily true. In reality, AVG has only told you that you haven't had viruses for the last 3 years. Anti-viral software can only report what it can detect. AV-Comparatives does in-depth testing of various popular anti-viral products. If you visit the site, click comparatives and select the most recent On-demand and Pro-Active/Retrospective tests (Their site says I can't directly link to the charts), you will see that AntiVir performs better than pretty much every other competitor, especially in the Pro-Active tests. Check out their full report for more details.

AntiVir is free, has fast, efficient, and effective detection rates, and is totally awesome.

    AntiVir FTW!

Rootkits are also something else that should be mentioned. Rootkits, once buried on your computer, become totally stealthed and can even hide other programs. In conjunction with a backdoor trojan (A trojan that allows new threats to enter your system), your computer could be very easily compromised. The rootkit would hide itself and the trojan while the trojan invites other baddies onto your computer.

Luckily, anti-virus vendors, like AntiVir, are integrating scripts and methods to find and remove these clandestine capers.

Norton and McAffee are subpar in my eye. If I were to ever pay, I'd go for NOD32 like urbestfriend also suggested, but probably more likely the paid version of AntiVir because they're so awesome ^_^

Nice tips for passwords. However, changing a password that often for some may prove quite annoying. While personally do it following the digits of Pi (change it after 3 days, 1 day, 4 days, 1 day etc lol. I'm on digit 841 ^_^) and use a random password generator like you said, if you were to properly secure your system, a password change every 2 months to half year might suffice.

    Spyware:

There are currently no exceptional free anti-spyware programs out there. The best one is probably the version of Spyware Doctor that comes with Google Pack (Google it lol), but it's a watered-down version of the full version. Other good options are Super AntiSpyware, Spyware Terminator, and MS Defender.

I personally use Spyware Blaster. It's a program that once run, modifies your registry to trick spyware into thinking that it's already installed on your computer. You only need to run it once every time it is updated, so it doesn't take up space. Also free (All of the software I talk about it free and I use myself for the most part)

Ad-Aware 2008 and Spybot: SD have somewhat slipped in their effectiveness on a grand scale, but still viable options.

    Speeding (your) Computer Up:

I thought this guide was for explaining how to better secure your account, but whatever, this information is good for a lot of people.

I'm not quite sure myself, but I believe that if your hard drive is something like only 10% or 10GB free, you're system will run 30% slower. Also, the default Windows Defragger will refuse to work.

Speaking of defragging, disk defragmentation is another way of boosting your system speed. It works by rearranging the files on your computer in a sensible manner to your computer so it can access the files quicker. This also helps to prolong the life of your hard drive as the read head does not have to work as hard to find files all the time.

However, I suggest against using the default defragger as it does not work with little space left as I mentioned, but also because it is slow. I highly recommend the free JK Defrag, as it is much faster and more efficient.

I also use CCleaner and think it's great. It deletes all of those temporary files with a click of a button. Now I just need to find a program that will delete single files with 35 passes

I recommend running CCleaner before running JKDefrag. Why organize files when they're going to be deleted anyway?

I like you use of pictures to describe CCleaner. Very good for someone unfamiliar with the program.

As for the registry clearing capabilities, I suggest getting a dedicated registry cleaner to do the job. I use TweakNow.

RAM and Memory: I'm not sure if RAM stick is any better, but at least it seems to be more widely used than RAM card.

Excellent screenies walkthrough to adjust the virtual memory. The reason extra virtual memory can never really replace more true RAM is because RAM operates much more quickly than a hard drive. V-Mem is usually 1.5 times your real RAM, but you can bump it up to 2x.

    But overall, excellent guide ^_^.

    And as always, grammar FTW!

  9. My range is 46 and i use iron arrows. Secondly they are not helping they are merely wasting my time. And yes I am polite, I'll say thank you, but could you please leave them their until I can pick them up myself? And it only makes me mad when they don't listen.

I'm thinking lvl 46 ranged is far too low to be killing lessers.

If you have 43 pray, there's an altar in the blk knights fortress with 2 blk knights in the adjacent room. No food required and the only people who come are usually just people doing the quest. They have decent drops and should be much much easier for you to kill.

    Or just kill cows ::'

  10. Here's how I look at your bank, how much space you could save, and what items more items you could keep.

You have no reason to keep a lobster cage or harpoon in your bank. Karamja is probably the best place to fish lobsters and swordies and the fishing store is right at Port Sarim, so you can pick one up for 5/20 gp right before you go. (Wilderness is only good if you don't want to cook em and want to run the risk of revenants. Also, the explorer ring speeds up Karamja fishing)

You could set your d-hide, full guthix, and robes. As stated in my guide, you're most likely not going to use them all at the same time. The anti-dragonbreath shield can be done away with since Duke Horacio gives you a replacement at any time, even if you've done the quest.

Why do you have chicken feet, the reaper hood, a dragon kite in your bank, chocolatrice cape in your bank?!? Diango holds them quite nicely. I'm not sure why you want gold and turquoise gloves. They're the same defence as regular ones and really, they're just cosmetic.

As for the explorer ring, I suggest you wear it at all times. You really have no reason not to as it's the only F2P ring that does anything and if you ever lose it, you can get a free replacement.

Personally, I'd ditch the Earth tiara since they're less than 100 gp to buy on the GE and the altar is near Varrock anyway. I can sorta see why you would want the air tiara.

I suggest you sell all of your trout to a general store or something. If you're level 96, salmon would be much more suitable and you catch them both in huge volumes anyway. You seem to have plenty of lobster too.

I think you could expand your bank to have all of the elementals, including air, for teleports. Yes, you could use the air staff, but that would mean you would have to bank it before you went on your merry way of whatever you are doing. Seeing that you only have 918 iron arrows, I'm sensing that perhaps you're not big on ranging. But if have any intentions, a few more arrow types could fit in nicely.

With a tiny amount of effort, you could raise your crafting to level 43 and then keep your diamonds in the bank. I also recommend a chisel.

If you followed all of my advice, you could save up to 19 bank spaces. At least 8 items (The Diango items, the anti-dragonbreath shield, and the lobby pot and harpoon) should be easily discarded without much consideration.

  11. Running is a great strategy.

It enables lvl 70s (Like myself) to beat lvl 100s.

If people wanted something easy to kill for mage xp, they can go kill the caged lesser... it doesn't even attack!

And Runescape is overrun with all the FoG noobs who complain when things are handed to them... (just my opinion)

But you miss the point why people train mage there in the first place: Free Runes

The effectiveness of stats being reduced also means that you are more likely to hit harder and more often.

But if I'm training mage and I've got a runner, I don't complain. I just hold them and fire blast them.

Timing it just correctly, they can never move. I've once found a guy who hadn't picked up his stone and held him 2 tiles away from the dispenser and fire blasted him to death

  12. it never became Jagexs job to do that, a simple solution would be showing the skill lvl next to the assist interface.

That's such a genius, valid, easy to implement, and useful solution that Jagex would never think of it.

But really, I think we should get a member to post this idea and the supporting arguments on the official RS forum boards. All that would really need to be done is a requester-side option panel to actually choose the skill and see the level.

I think along with showing the level of the skill, you could also click in your own skills tab and have a glowing or highlighted assisted skill, showing the level of the player you're being assisted by.

  13. Rune arrows and Wave spells. Melee gets all the way to the fourth level (rune) in f2p... so it dominates

also a separate highscores page so we can see the number 1 f2per, cuz no1's gonna notice u at 1494 total if its not ranked high. Also fletching up to maple, since we can make our own weapons with magic and melee.

I greatly support a separate highscore board.

Not only do you not get noticed, but it's also much harder to get our skills up and posted on the board. Aside from the actual fact that members have ways of leveling up skills much much quicker than an F2Per does, they also have more skills to level up.

Where a F2Per has to get 99 in all areas to get 1494, P2Per just has to get 63 in all the skills. While a lot of the skills can be costly like herblore or time consuming like summoning, it takes 368,599 xp according to the xp table to get to lvl 63. It takes 13,034,431xp to get to 99.

  14. I'd suggest sticking with airs.

If you play any FoG and get yourself a spiffy pair of air rcing gloves, you can get 10 xp per essence instead of 5!

You can pay 1.5k for runners while at the altar and run a few runes yourself.

You could do this with waters or earths, but you make fewer earths or waters per essence compared to airs.
