However, it seems like during the next presidential election in the US it will be a big focus Note that the following opinion comes from a student who takes H/AP classes One of the major problems with the US school system now is the policy on testing, mainly, the retest policy. Homeroom i hear people say they're just going to fail the test and take the easier retest for an easy 70%. They learn less as a result, and even though those students pass school, their actual grade, per se, is reflected in state tests. students dont learn crap in school unless they want to, such as in H/AP classes. everyone in my classes take them because they take the classes seriously. teaching styles are bad, too. filler worksheets and mindless projects take up too much time yet very little comes out of it. When was the last time i made a poster for a presentation? uhh... eighth grade? the teachers are bad too, but there is little anyone can do; the demand for teachers is high while the supply is incredibly low Yea, mi madre is a special ed teacher. So by No Child Left Behind, her special ed kids have to take their regular grade level test or MEAP in my school (soon to be eliminated). So, it's kind of unfair. My concentration teacher (the class I have for 2 hours, Art 3d) prepares us well if we are going into an art college. Just today Kansas City Art Institute came to talk to us. But my school offers limited electives, of which are Spanish, and if you're lucky, a concentration class for an elective, Art 2d, Art 3d, Voice/Keyboard/Theatre/Dance. But as I said, Spanish is the only language we offer, besides online which is offered only to upper class men, and is limited. My school is 6-12, but there are only 600 kids total, and it's separated between middle and high school. All in all, my gifted school, really isn't all that gifted. Oh boo hoo hoo, you've got to learn to live with what you have. I don't see why I (and the rest of the kids who want to learn) should have to limit ourselves and possible opportunities because of our government, and all over society. That's why you take college level courses at community colleges. You don't have to go through your school to do college coursework, just to get credit in your highschool for it. Yes, true, and I will in my Junior year (next year). However, compared to other schools, I feel my school is extremely limited, and it's suppose to be one of the best in the state, a gifted academy. At my school, you can BS almost anything, and easily get away with it.

Our society isn't the only reality. What I posted was just our society, and this is me, in reality, trying to cover the mistake I made from the other post that was a mistake. My definition of reality goes beyond our own society.

So is realty something that only humans have? Is everything the exists before mankind not real? Why the need to narrow it down to society? Do we not consider the universe to be real? Reality applies to everyone and everything in every galaxy in every super cluster. Reality is what is now, not in the past nor the future. It's the unhidden truth, not the blanketed lies we are told. It's not truth with no logic, it is truth with logic.

I often regret my ancestors coming to this country in the first place. Germany healed, it's a nice place now. Booming economy.

A biological function. That formed after a long process which was the result of a huge explosion many years ago. Big Bang= Stars, Galaxies= Milky Way= Star (in location of sun)= Supernova= New Star= Planetary Disc= Earth= Evolution= Society. That's my idea of reality.

Hehe, you know what always surprised me. Canada and the US are like in the same situation, and yet Canada is 10x better than the US. It may be more expensive, but it is also way better. If Canada can do so well, why can't the big US superpower do better? Why are they advancing beyond us? We're suppose to be a country where you can live the American Dream. It should be renamed, the Canadian Dream.

It's posts like these that give Americans that bad stereotype. Posts like those make me want to move to a different country. Posts like those that make me want to stay in my country and try to make it a better place. It's post like that of the original quote that make me want to get out of this country as well. Our standards are way below that of Europe, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, Canada. If these countries can do so good, why can't we? My exchange student from Slovenia, he is 10 times smarter than me, he has a way better study and homework habit. And I do really good in school. Another exchange student from France, she aces everything in math, I'm pretty good at math, and she doesn't even know English as her first language, and still aces everything. Same goes for some other exchange students. Case in point? Kids in other parts of the globe are getting a better education, which leads to a better understanding to get into college, a job, and so on.

Yes, my school is one of the top in my state as well. But our facility sucks! My school used to be a department store, it has no gym, a flat auditorium with a small stage. Walls made out of dry wall, a small cafeteria, a confusing layout, no grass outside, just a broken up parking lot, the list goes on. And I don't even live in a rural city for the most part anyways. I am happy however, they passed a grant(?) to get somewhere around 25 million or so, maybe more, can't remember, to fix up all the schools in our district. But guess what, our school, the worst of them all, is last on the list. :shock:

Yea, my Global Studies teacher just sits in the back of class all day working on other school stuff, instead of teaching all of us. He doesn't even have us turn anything in, it's just a quick check that means nothing, you could BS the whole assignment.

Yea, money is not the only variable here, we also need a lot more ambition. Lot's of kids are dropping out, because of work, family issues, etc... And the majority of this is in the lower middle class and upper lower class, which need education the most to get a good job, and make something of themselves.

Ok, I'll ditch the cityscape idea, but I have one last question. How do I create blue prints? Like actual blue prints, because I've seen companies make them before using Photoshop.

To switch it up from the religious topics recently, let's talk politics. :P It's very clear America's public school system isn't top notch. Actually, it's quite low, and many many students aren't reaching the average grades on tests, etc... But we can't just blaim the students, the facilities are terrible sometimes, the food is unhealthy, the government mis grades repetitive tests, the funding is low, and I could go on for hours. So I made this thread to discuss our school system in America, how it has prepared students for college, how it ranks, how well it teaches, who is to blaim. And also, to discuss improvements that could be made, and how they could be done. I have a suggestion that we do what they do in Belgium, where the schools are the best in the world. And have the school's be like a buisness, where it will shut down if it doesn't meet certain curriculum standards.

If you love space, you should buy the book Universe by DK. It's a $50 book available at Barnes and Nobles. It's a 400 or so page color atlas of the Universe. I love it, it's amazing!!

I take it back! I'm for Granholm. Once I found out DeVos favors Creationism being taught in schools, and that he is spending 65 million on this campaign, I changed my mind. It's not too bad since I'm a Christian, but maybe that should be left to the Christian schools.. also, I like studying about evolution and stuff, it's very interesting :D I always thought it was Adam and Eve, Genesis, Fundamentalist stuff. Definitely conservative. I agree, it should be left to the Christian schools.

If that math is based off a trillion stars per galaxy, than yes, it could be so. What is amazing, is we can see a galaxy 450 million lightyears away, that's out of the bounds of our supercluster.

One last question. I have a cityscape, like a skyscraper scape at nighttime with all the lights on. I want to turn all the lights off, and make it so I can turn them on and off at will, and if possible, program it to turn on certain ones first. Is there a thing in Photoshop that will allow you to do this? Perhaps something that turns all the yellow, white, and monochromes to black? And will eliminate the reflections and shading of the light on the buildings?

Thats not the point.. Its the fact that they lead for like 5 steps to a fitness gym. I know the point, and it was funny. Still, that was a serious question.

Can you have escalators outside? Isn't that unsafe with rain, etc...?
