I believe they are just for looks. But you can use the cooking gauntlets which reduce the level needed to stop burning certain fish.

How much are willow logs and yew logs going for?

I hear rock crabs are good for training and i think they drop lvl 1 clues. For money making i would recomend working on WC/Fletching, or just pick any skill you like and stick with it.
