  1. well actually, full rune back then did not include kites because kites were so rare. these days, kites are cheap and cost about 50k, which brings the price of full rune to 190-200k :)
  2. you forgot a 4th step: 4) Do not scam others some people resort to scamming others to make up for what they lost and this creates a bad cycle.
  3. ditto to what Pyrotilly, pi_stoff, and TheRory said. Some people get greedy when they see money and these are the people that ruin the game. Ah but now I know at least why there are so many beggers on RS. Apparently, begging does pay off. There are many people who are willing to give free money or free iron/steel suits to these people. It's a very kind gesture but unfortunately, if these items and money is given out to anyone who asks, it encourages beggers to continue to beg for stuff. It's really important on the part of people to not help beggers as this is the only way to show them that begging does not work. What I've found that works best is to pretend to be a newb yourself. Maybe go to varrock or some popular place and ask for help on a quest. Or ask can someone spare you a certain amount of gps say 242gps (make up some random amount to let sound like you need exactly that to help buy something). When or if a person decides to help you, let him/her and then give them a large reward (depending on circumstances 10k or so should do the trick). This way, you can mostly ensure that the person you are helping deserves it. :D Anyone else who got any good tips? Reading the responses to this have been pretty interesting.
  4. exactly, another reason not to give to lvl 3. most or some of them have mains and it would be pointless to give to a lvl 3 who has a decently rich main character. usually, lvl 10 and up is a safe bet and new players are generally noticeable (unless it's an experienced player pretending to be a newb) :P i just dont want people who already have the money to have more. i really do just want to give it to the genuinely needy people who have worked hard (keyword there) and is willing to give help to others in turn.
  5. hmm, actually, I'm not too keen on giving complete new players full iron sets. It kinda of ruins the experience for them, you know the one where you first go around picking everything up, then trying to make some money, then buying an bronze or iron plate or something. By then you know a bit about the game and understood the value of making money and stuff. I think every new player should be allowed to go through this stage without having full iron armor heaped on them. Spoil them early and they will become beggers (some, not all). Help them when they really need it, and they become grateful and a good RS player. At least, that's my opinion. :)
  6. Hello all, I'm an old time player back from 2001ish. I quit a few years back but logged in recently and found that I have become pretty rich thanks to rare item inflation. So now I have over 100 mil gold and absolutely no use for it. For about a week now, I've been logging onto the New York servers and hanging around the varrock square. There I mainly walk around and look at people's interactions. My main purpose is to give money to the worthy and shun scammers and beggers. The problem is, this seems to be harder than I anticipated. My system is rather simple: 1. I do not give money to beggers (especially people who ask for 1k+ or constantly ask) 2. I do not give money to people looking for 'cex' 3. I do not give money to lvl 3 people (they do not need it as they dont know what to do with it, and most likely trying to get pity money to then transfer to a main) 4. I do give money to people whom I see helping others (ie: giving them free iron, sparing some money, talking them someplace, helping them on a quest) I often give money to level 10-35 people because by then, they know how to use it and they need it the most. And sometimes if I can tell someone geninuely needs it or got scammed/hacked (rare), I will help them out to. Usually, I will give between 2-10k depending on the situation as I found that giving this amount works the best. Why am I posting here? Well, I want to see if anyone got any good tips/advice/suggestions for giving or could share some of their own stories. And I'm also considering 'hiring' an agent or 2 to help me in my quest to spread the wealth a bit to the kind people whom make RS worthwhile. :D
