    - Character developments, races, skills

    - Guilds, parties.

So I take it you don't want a monthly fee. Here's a few I Could suggest (most which aren't as good as the monthly fee games)

Anarchy Online- Its a fun game, you can play as a fr00b which grants you a ton of the landmass. Hell, I found the free player world more interesting then the paid just because everyone does the same thing in the paid world. Game is really deep although has a steep learning curve.

Silkroad Online- Korean MMO #28178. It has everything that a basic MMO needs and also allows you to choose a 'proffesion' at lvl 20 which gets into the PvP aspect of the game. It can be a lot of fun but the grind is really bad.

Hero Online: Really fast gameplay. I didn't play too much of it but it feels like a cross between a korean MMO and diablo.

Shadowbane: Has good PvP or so I've heard, never got the chance to actualy give the game a shot though so I can't tell you much about that.

Alternativly, you could go down the private server route.

Ragnorok Online: Good game or so I've heard. Can't comment much on it.

Lineage II: Now realize most of the L2 private servers got shut down, but ones that operate outside of the US still are legal. Eternal Sin: L2 is a good server that is still running.

Ultima Online: a classic. There are some large UO private servers out there, most notibly uogamers. The game is old though so its hard to get into, really steep learning curve.

Or you could give guild wars a shot. I've played the game for a while and it deffinitly has value with it ($50 and then that much for the expansions). However I don't really consider it an MMO or so to speak so... yeah.

Thats about all I can think of for free that I've had an experience with. There are a *lot* of other korean MMO's you can check out that are free as well. Also you can check mmorpg.com and go to the games list to get a better idea of other MMOs out there that are free. (the list shows how much each MMO on the list costs).

No, all of those you can play for free. (the private server ones you don't play on 'offical' servers though).
