Joe
Hi, A freind of mine is having problems with their computer. The monitor swicths on fine so does the printer however the tower does not turn on, not lights or anything comes on. I have tried a new power lead and still no joy, has anyone got any ideas of what the problem could be?? :-k Joe. :D [Admin Edit: Referral links are not permitted in signatures or posts]
Randox
Did you try the switch on the back (I call it the master power switch). My computer has the switch on the back plus the power buton, its marked with the l and O symbols. It should be right below where the power goes in I think. Parabola
Do fans start? Are there any beeps? If no to both of those questions (and that of the guy above me), you'll probably need a new power supply.
Joe
Hi, Thank you both for your help, I have tried the power swicth on the back of the computer numourous times and no the fans dont start and no beeps happen. :wall: Joe. :D [Admin Edit: Referral links are not permitted in signatures or posts]
Randox
This one im not to sure about but there is also a red switch on the back. If that was moved it might prevent he power from working but, since its got something to do with the power transformer it might damage your computer. Ive never tried it myself because I dont know what will happen. But assuming you live in North america it sould be set to 115V (thats what mine is set too. And I guess for Britan, it would be what 220V? (the other side)
Parabola
Something else I forgot to mention is the motherboard power connector. If this is a freshly built machine your friend may have forgotten to connect all the motherboard connectors to their relevant places on the motherboard. In a few systems I've made in the last few years I have forgotten the 4-pin motherboard connector and the machine wouldn't boot. It took me ages to work out why. Parabola
Definitely need a new power supply then, given the symptoms you have described.
Darrel104
Test the current output on the power supply before you spend the money on the new one.
