Audacity Help

I'm having a problem with the sound recorder Audacity, you may have heard of it...

Anyway, I record a song, and then I want to record a second song over it, so I hit record and it begins recording, but it mutes the first recording. I know there is a way to be able to record a second song on top of the first and be able to hear the first while recording the second, cause I used to be able to do it.

any ideas? or if I can't fix this does anyone know of any other sound editor that is good to use for this kind of stuff.

There must be a way to create a new layer or something along those lines. The best program out there for sound editing/recording is called Adobe Auditions. Only problem with it is it is not free and very expencive (well it was when I last looked). I am pretty sure you can download a 30 day trial of it from the Adobe website.
