March 24, 200719 yr Well the time has come for a new computer to play my games better on a budget. I have about $450 to spend on just the 4 main components (motherboard, ram, graphics card, processor). Here is what I think is pretty good but I don't know too much about Intel motherboards. I would like this computer to be pretty much future proof so I can upgrade the processor sometime in the future. SAPPHIRE Radeon X1900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card -$130 A-DATA 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory -$120 Intel Pentium D 915 Presler 2.8GHz 2 x 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor -$97 ABIT IL9 Pro LGA 775 Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard -$85 The motherboard I chose has 1333 fsb which I think might be more futureproof because the new processors are going to support that someday, right? The total comes to $431 or $441 with shipping. Comments? Suggestions? Incompatibilities? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance :D
March 24, 200719 yr most everything there is good, although if you can at all afford it I would upgrade to a core 2 duo like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115004 they are quite a bit faster then the pentium d's and for another 100 bucks and an aftermarket cooler they can easily be overclocked like crazy. the one I just listed there I got to 2.8 ghz running stable on a friends computer. other then that, I wo uld wait for some of the new directx 10 cards to come out, as most should be out in a few months.
March 24, 200719 yr US$450 sniperas - work with the budget rather than suggesting a move that'll cause a blowout that is most likely to hit 3x the original. While I agree with you on the cpu (if it's possible); a brandnew directx 10 card is going to cost more than the budget unless it happens to fall off the back of a truck - so that's a definate no. In 6 months the directx 10 cards will be near half the cost or close to it.

Would my current power supply support all of this? I have an Enermax 480w with 20A on 12v1 and 22A on 12v2. I'm guessing a yes, but just to make sure :) .
March 24, 200719 yr I would say yes. you dont really need a psu over 500 watts or so unless your planning to run multiple graphics cards in sli or raid arrays or somthing like that.
