Real life trading means exchanging any real life goods or services for runescape items. If you trade real money for runecape gold pieces you are in breach of rule 12 and deserve to be banned. In fact you probably deserve to be banned for simply thinking about it. What point is there in playing a game if you're simply going to buy your way through it?

You know of the rule because you agree to the Terms and Conditions when you log in. They will ban you no matter what for real life trading or if you buy gold. I know they monitor the sites that sell gold, as well as EBay and catch the people who recieve the gold.

Generally not knowing that something is "unlegal" is not a valid defence. You agreed to the terms and conditions when you signed up. You deserve to be banned.
